My bones shook at the thought of you splattering fiber glass literally everywhere
@OpenSourceLowTech3 жыл бұрын
I had an idea recently to produce fiber insulation from recycled plastic chips, using essentially exactly this process. I was concerned tho that the molten plastic would be too viscous and wouldn't flow well.. If you haven't got rid of that machine yet, do you want to do me a quick favour and save me some effort..?
@ellamcguffee54873 жыл бұрын
That is an absolutely fantastic idea you should discuss that with some companies if I had more information on it I would try to help you my only concern would be potential fumes that could be a byproduct of heating certain plastics so if you have an already put research into that I would recommend it but otherwise that is a phenomenal idea and I can’t see why that wouldn’t work
@blackhole34073 жыл бұрын
Im afraid plastic would act as bad as the cheese when heated and it would be dangerous to use as insulation because plastic is flammable
@eideticex3 жыл бұрын
You don't need to do all that at all to do this with plastic that can be remelted. Heat PLA to around 200C to 230C. Press a glass or metal plate up to around 60C into it for a few seconds, don't even have to press hard, just enough to hold it there. Then pull it back. You can create longer strands by keeping the area around it warmer. Stringing with your remeltable plastics is a very difficult to solve problem so that would make it a trivial choice to create fibers.
