This is very inspiring. If Willie Geist can run 26 miles in under 4 hours; I should be able to walk more than 5 miles in 2 hours. I thought that was good for a couch potato, but; I feel like that was nothing compared to this.

Hahaha - that is the worst math I've ever heard. He is correct in saying Roger Bannister was the first (recorded) person to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. Now if you ran 26 miles, all at 4 minutes, you would complete a marathon in 1 hour 44 minutes. 26 x 4 minutes = 104 minutes and 104 minutes is 1hour 44 minutes, not 3 hours 58 minutes. The fastest marathon ever run was 2 hours and 1 minute. I honestly cannot understand what math he is doing as he seems to have taken 3 minutes 58 seconds and made it 3 hours and 58 minutes and thinks that equals a marathon. This would be true is some weird decimal miles and minute system that doesn't exist.

@2:50 you're just a little off there in your history lesson. You mixed up a guy running only one mile in under 4 minutes with a guy running 26.2 miles in under 4 hours. No one has ever run a 4min/mile marathon. That's superhuman. Nevertheless, a sub 4 hr marathon is a great milestone to break. Good job.
@AnyoneCanSee
@AnyoneCanSee 2 жыл бұрын
I know. This was the worst math ever. A 4-minute marathon would be 1 hour and 40minutes. 26x4 = 104. He seemed to just move his mile speed two decimal places and think it was correct. He said 3:58 minute mile is the same as a 3-hour 58-minute marathon.

@@AnyoneCanSee This is a good reminder that the men/women we see on television , and , in the public eye , such as actors , musicians, and politicians, are just ordinary people , with all the foibles of the " ordinary Joe " . ( Still , the guy seemed so sure of himself , without any awareness of how bad his math really was . It should also be noted that no one corrected him . Did they miss it , or , did they just decide to pretend that nothing was wrong ? )

@@AnyoneCanSee Right, if you could run a marathon at 4 minutes a mile it would take you less than 2 hours, not just less than 4. So he was going at less than half the pace of Roger Bannister. That said, the fastest ever time for someone to complete a marathon is just over 2 hours, so it is possible to do it nearly as fast, but that’s top athletes, not amateurs doing it for charity.
