Ray Charles was a huge country music fan as well as an influential country music artist in his own right. He first started recording albums of country music in the early 60's. This song, Seven Spanish Angel's, was on an album of his of collaborations with other country artists, and this song with Willie charted at #1 on the Country singles charts. Also, on that same album, there was the song called 'Two Old Cats Like Us' recorded with Hank Williams Jr. Hank, who early in his career was pushed by his mother to sing more like his father, actually wanted to sound like Ray Charles and if you listen to a lot of Hank's music you can hear the influence of his idol. If you happen to get a chance to watch the biographical movie 'Ray' it addresses Ray's own love of country music. In the movie Jamie Foxx plays Ray which was perfect casting, not only because of his resemblance to Ray but because Jamie Foxx, who comes from a small Texas town, is also a huge country music fan and actually got to sing for his idol, George Straight, when Straight was honored as Artist of the Decade a few years back. Ray Charles, I'm proud to say, is also among those inductees into The Country Music Hall of Fame for 2022, and rightfully so.✌

@@BourbonCountryReacts Ray Charles: Modern Sounds in Country Music Vol. I & 2 we're released in the early 60's. Although they sound more like a Blues album today, what with Ray Charles singing them, but there was a time once when there was little difference between hillbilly music and the Blues. Hank Williams sang the Blues and so does his boy Bocephus. Also the first artist signed to perform at the Grand Ole Opry was Deford Bailey a black harmonica player who was very popular in the south and who could get that mouth harp of his to make those train sounds like you often mention hearing guitarists do. Even the legendary Louis Armstrong recorded the song Blue Yodel #9 with the great Jimmie Rodgers who was then known as the singing Brakeman and today widely considered the grandfather of country music. That's a melting pot going way back considering Jimmie Rogers. Has been dead 89 years ago. BTW, Willie Nelson does a fine version of Jimmie Rodgers' In The Jailhouse Now with Webb Pierce that you might give a listen to.
