Check out this local news story about Willie Nelson and the 1974 Austin music scene. There is footage of Willie performing with Waylon's band and playing Waylon's Tele. The coolest thing about the footage is Waylon in his prime sitting on the couch beside Willie just listening to him. Waylon looks like he has likely been up for a few days. The Waylon footage plays again at the end zoomed in on him.

In the 1970’s I would occasionally have to stay with my grandparents. They were not fans of rock and roll except for Elvis. But they would religiously tune into Austin City Limits. Occasionally ASL would feature a rock act and that was totally fine with them. It was totally fine with me too!

@willienelsonofficialfaninb2888 Willie & Waylon were the soundtrack to my childhood. Specifically, Red headed stranger, Waylon live & “The Outlaws” with Jessie and Tompall. My grandmother would play those three records over and over again and I would sing along with her. I got my love of rocknroll & songwriter stuff like Leon Russell & Paul Simon from my dad’s records & my love of the outlaw stuff came from grandma. Later on I immersed myself in George & Tammy, Buck and the Buckaroos and Hag, and of course Hank. expanded my country horizons, but my grandma strictly loved the outlaw stuff, thank god she taught me all about those records. Now I dig Shooter and Hank 3, Jason Isbell, great newer artists like those. This is the music of my life and thank you for posting this stuff for us. Happy trails to you

Ive lived in Austin for a long time and its still cool if you know what your doing and where to be. Every city changes and some changes I dont like some but some I do, and thats life. Your city isnt the same as it was in 1974 either. A bunch of fools carrying on in this thread. Id just celebrate that we have this footage from that time and music these legends gave us. Willie still is the #1 guy in Austin. Yea he may technically live in spicewood but he has done so much for the city over the years. you guys have no idea how much charity stuff he has done. He is truly an awesome human. Now more interestingly, its not that often you see him playing Waylon's tele. Though ive seen him play a strat and sometimes he even pulls out a crazy green headless electric. But no one sees such things at regular shows of course, people would be shocked to see Willie without Trigger.

I hear people raising cane saying country is no longer country. It's funny, I remember my father saying the same thing about Willy, Waylon, Dwight Yoakam, and Garth Brooks. He was a Country and Western fan, but he gave in, and loved Merrill Haggard. I remember not long before he died, he owned a 74 ford 1 ton, and I moved it. I was shocked to hear him listening to the Eagles. I teased him and he said he had gotten a tape of them at the auction and had not taken it out for three weeks. Gotta change to grow, if not you're like a ball stuck on an escalator....

@@scottwebster695 tolerant of King Cheeto? Tolerant of that Nazi over there? Tolerant of that fascist? Tolerance isn’t a virtue within itself and liberals are not any more tolerant than “conservatives” -if there is such a thing. The only difference between the liberal’s tolerance is that liberals generally have no philosophical grounding for their morality (secular ethics don’t exist) and “conservatives” (or what used to be called religious religious conservatives) have their morality grounded in their interpretation of the teachings of Jesus. In our modern times, this means that liberal morality can change radically in a short time. For example, in the 60’s liberal morality might have meant integration and acceptance of gays but in modernity liberal morality means acceptance of 40% of a second grade class identifying as being gender fluid.

@@jalander8817 Jesus was a reformer which means he was a liberal. There is nothing "conversative" about Jesus nor is there anything conservative about the 10 suggestions (that Trump nevers follows). Bet you feel pretty stupid right about now. Also, Jesus was BLACK...

Hilarious how times have changed. Willie could talk about his liberalism, moving and setting up shop in a liberal city, and not be canceled by right wingers. If he did that same interview today, MAGATS would be burning Willie records at MAGA rallies.
