As a guitarist, Willie has always been a huge influence on my playing. Of course, he's most known for his amazing songwriting, but his guitar playing is attached to the hip of his songs. While on rare occasions, I have heard him play some technically difficult and faster leads, for the most part, he has kept those tricks in his back pocket. Instead, he focuses on the melody and combines it with his unique vocal phrasing. The best concert I ever had the pleasure to attend was in the early '80s when Jessie, Waylon, and Willie came to Calgary! Jessie opened and led into Waylon's set. After a brief intermission, Willie came on and played for over two hours! Because of a limit on the number of tickets bought by one person (there were 7 of us and the limit was 6) I got the single seat for Willie's set, floor, 2nd row, dead center! ! ! I will never forget!
