Willow Leaf Ficus: Dave's Bonsai E295

In this episode, I finally pick up a Willow Leaf Ficus and put it in a pot I've wanted to use for a few years now. I think it's a pretty good match.

That looks pretty daggum slick, brother. And the rock worked great! Really digging the final version. Comment of note: I learned from the free Bonsai Mirai Ficus series, the Willow Leaf is prone to root rot. I slowed my watering and the tree responded well!

I think ficus can be one of the most under rated plants for bonsai. I personally love them. Currently have willow leaf and tiger bark both great to work with. Thanks for the video can’t wait to see how it goes

I've never really been interested in ficus, but after watching yours, Nigels and Erics videos, I've decided to jump in and I've got a tiger bark ficus and a benjamina. This white pot works absolutely perfectly with this tree. I love the low profile, and the beautifully curved edges definitely complement the curves in the trunks.

To do anything but put it in a pot and let it grow wild is not worth the time. I get the need for content and for the KZbinr guys. But let’s be honest it’s a rooted cutting and a rooted cutting in a bonsai pot does not make it bonsai. I love ficus and have a bunch. But I have to say letting them grow and leaving them alone other than bonsai soil, fertilizer and water and lots of sunlight leave it be and let it grow and the time when it’s actually time to prune it those branches and shoots have yet to grow in. It’s way too early. It does have a good look though for when it grows out it will be nice. All my trees are in large grow out pots to grow free and they develop very fast. I do understand what you are trying to accomplish so bravo to that. I just wanted to offer my thoughts.

Thanks for your insights. I can’t disagree with you. What I have come to enjoy is controlling each bit of movement from the beginning of a cutting with clip and grow. I need to let more just push out and leave it alone. 😆 I also am experimenting along the way so I can share greater knowledge down the road. Bonsai on!

Hello, my wollow leaf seems to be dying. Its dropping all its leafs, the PH level is good and im watering it often. Its winter here in Australia and gets down to around 5 degrees celcious at night. Do you have any ideas about what to do? Thanks
