Willow Smith revealed she’s polyamorous on Wednesday’s episode of ‘Red Table Talk’ on Facebook Watch. Jada Pinkett Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris listened as their daughter and granddaughter opened up about her decision to practice ethical non-monogamy. Willow praised how polyamory gives her ‘the freedom to be able to create a relationship style’ that works for her.

It's actually interesting to see how Willow's tone changes even becoming louder to make her point to her grand mother who is a woman of way more wisdom than she carries. Rather than ask her grandmother why she can't see herself loving multiple people at once she give a closed shut response implying that her grandmother is too ignorant and out of touch to understand. It's the typical attitude of this upcoming generation. They truly believe the wisdom of our elders is irrelevant and they are superior in thinking. I get why older folks gave us millennials so much push back. It's for the same reasons.
@meek2312
@meek2312 2 жыл бұрын
Not irrelevant at all but we want explanations, not just "this is what my mother did so I'm doing it". That doesn't suffice for us and we ask questions because the "why" is important. Some of these elders can't explain the why, become defensive, or simply shut down when asked to discuss. They did things that they thought were right and moved on. No accountability, no reflection, no differing perspectives. Sounds like a caged perspective. They can keep it. We're all gonna die, and I'll be damned if I spend my life living for other people that are on the verge of death. My great-grandfather walked miles to attend college... Why? Because of the racial, social climate in this country at the time. See how "why" is always important?

@@meek2312 I hear you! There's definitely both sides of the coin. The rejecting of wisdom from us younger folks, and the elders rejecting our line of questioning. My grandparents grew up in a foreign country completely isolated from American culture. When I moved to the US I would mock their ignorance in the things they used to warn me against. All these years later I realized they were right. They probably never encountered the things I did here, they had no "why's" for their reasoning but they were right. The elders were in tuned with God, the land and themselves and I believe this is why their wisdom was so rich and relevant across generations.

@@RearviewWisdom I agree wholeheartedly. Two sides to a coin. I remember things my great grandmother would say to me as a child. They didn't make sense then but sure do now, and oh how I miss her wisdom & talks. There was a transparency... Shame or guilt or whatever never stood in her way of teaching a person so that the lesson was understood. Sometimes I just knew these words I didn't understand were important. Some of these "elders" now are just old, no wisdom or take away from life's experiences... Just old. Age doesn't equate to wisdom so, yea, I'm cautious of who I listen to..

I’m only 25 years old, but I relate to Gran and feel what she’s feeling… looking at her granddaughter spew these ideas from her mind and mouth. Willow is still young and still trying to find her place in the world, her true identity and personality. As confident, free-spirited and fun-loving as Willow and Jaden seem, I do think they are both a bit lost. Other adolescents and young adults can influence them greatly as well, which I remember from high school is hard to break away from to truly find who you are as a person. Not who you are as a collective group. The only conflicting problem is that if it truly brings Willow happiness and fulfillment, so be it. Now as an adult she can make any choices if it serves her well. I just know polyamory cannot work for me; I don’t believe you can really connect deeply on all levels with more than one person- to let all your guards down, to truly have someone get all parts of you, to be fully in love. The more people you give yourself to, the less of yourself you become. It’s soul-splitting more than anything. That’s what I think at least. I can’t speak for everyone.

Most people do not practice monogamy quote “because they feel like they have no other choice.” Most people just want one secure partner and don’t want to deal with all the issues such as jealously that arise in these engagements. At least for me, I only want one person, and if that’s not good enough for them, they were never the right one. It seems people nowadays are always chasing the hottest new partner, until the honeymoon phase goes away and they are bored. the critique is not necessarily on the supposed self-lessness in monogamous marriage, but rather that it is the ONLY way to engage in healthy romantic or platonic partnership. Though I am monogamous, I've researched polyamory a bit myself and the level of work, self awareness and self-lessness it takes to engage in ETHICAL non-monogamy is tremendous and is sadly missing from many average "monogamous" partnerships which in my opinion can be a bit or even majorly possessive and oppressive and prescriptive.

As a man I'm just curious. When she's at the point where she wants children what kind of guy is gonna be okay with having children with a woman who doesn't want to commit? A woman who can pick up and go be with the next partner whenever the mood strikes, with your kid in tow. Oh I forgot, that's actually the norm today. It's just usually not discussed out front like this. SMH for society

@@sofia-gg3ni but why would one join that relationship in the first place the reason her argument on why the two people relationship is based on monetary value and financial success is bullshit because what about the poor people who are at the bottom but still together with each other and happy what about them can they not exist do they not exist anymore they didn't get anything from being with each other they didn't get any financial gain but they're still together right so what does that even mean how are you there for financial reasons that the financial agreement is basically what a marriage is between two people and then what happens if it fails and they're still together also what happens when you're with another person and that person wants another person in their relationship and so you say sure go ahead fine and then that person just falls in love with that person and basically excludes you out how is your relationship working which is probably highly likely for that to be the reason why it happens because the only reason you do it is because you're trying to meet the needs of someone else how many people actually want that and then how many people would just say they want it so that they can help the other person feel better think about it

I tried polyamory for a minute in my 20’s because I fell for all of this modern feminist don’t need no man nonsense and believed I could engage in that kind of casual sexual behavior and it honestly traumatized me. I hated every second of it but I thought it made me cool and hip and liberated. In reality I was the opposite of free. Maybe it works for some women. But it doesn’t for most women, don’t feel pressured to take on one of these new sexual identities just because everyone else is. As women, our biology doesn’t work this way. We aren’t built to have relationships like this and it can be incredibly damaging for us.
