Hi Will, I bought a Neos cam and followed your instructions to install the defang firmware, however the GUI looks completely different and also the video quality is fairly poor and laggy. Can you help, did I install the wrong firmware or something?

My video is quite old so they may have updated the interface :) if the video is laggy then try changing the settings (frame rate, etc)

Just wondering if the neos cams and their door sensor bridge add-ons work with home assistant and the defang firmware. Will be sacrificing one of my cams to test as the neos app is annoying me so much. Would be cool as then I don't need to buy additional sensors.

Hi, just setting up but cannot find the rtsp url (could take a guess based on your video but unsure) and also the still image url. The reason seems to be that the dafang interface is very different now to that of June 2020. Any ideas?

Hi will, I don’t have a wyze cam but I have integrated my yicam into HA and have been unable to get it auto discovered in mqtt so will see if I can ssh in and edit mqtt conf as you have done with this. I have to say, I've never done it before. But I believe if you download the original firmware (github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks/tree/master/firmware_original/Neos_Smartcam/Orig_4.15.2.45), then you just carry out the same process with the demo.bin file

Thanks for the guide Will. Ive got everything setup but cant get Home Assistant to open the rtsp feed. In the logs its showing as 401 authentication error. I am deffo using the correct creds (tried the stream using vlc and it works fine). The image feed also works. Just not live stream. Any ideas? Cheers.

If anyone is interested and has the same issue as above. I found a fix. The username and password need to be passed in the stream source. E.g. stream_source: rtsp://username:password@yourcameraip I can now view live feeds from Neos Cam Cheers.

Hello! Question: is this really necessary to make work your cameras on Home assistant? I have Wyze cameras but I want To integrate with home assistant
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
If your wyze camera outputs an RTSP stream then you are able to just add that as a camera entity. The benefit of this method is that you've installed custom firmware which completely removes it from the cloud so you know it's secure.

@@WillSurridgeTech Is there a trade off here where with TRSP there is drops in frames and image quality? The camera was already cheap in nature, making it worse may not be an advantage to do all this, right? Or not?
@miguelmeloqueiroz35534 жыл бұрын
Probably a dumb question as I'm watching these videos for the first time and have just bought the NEOS camera minutes ago (not here yet) but I seem to understand you recommend setting the resolution to 720p... Won't it work with 1080p resolution? Or is it just a "good enough" setting to begin with and then work it up or down from there, to adjust it to the existing bandwidth and processing power?
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
It will work with higher but will depend on your network speeds and you will probably need to change the frame rate/bitrate for it to work well

I know i'm late to the game, but it seems the configuration.yaml (or wherever you put it) has changed with a new version of HA because that's failing even exactly as written to pass the HA validation. Is MQTT software based or do we need a dongle for that? Also I noticed you said something about recording.. are you able to record the feed with the Dafang software? Or do we need something like blue iris for that? Thanks for the great video again!
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
It's fully software based - you just need to install/configure the mosquitto broker from the add-on store. As for recording, I believe that is something you would want an NVR such as blue iris for. You will soon run out of space on your HA machine, and it's not designed for that really. There are some free alternatives such as zoneminder :)
@noz3m4 жыл бұрын
@@WillSurridgeTech thanks for the reply. I think blue iris or NVR is a little bit over powered. I'm currently living in an apartment and want max 2-4 cameras. Can the neo Cam's record to home assistant on an external HDD or something?
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, you can't record within HA, but you could use motion eye as an nvr and install that as a an add on to HA.

Hi, Due to some reason time on Wyze camera is not getting local time. I changed the time zone to "America/Toronto" and changed NTP server to "ca.pool.ntp.org" from default google but still showing wrong time stamp. Any idea, what could be causing it?
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
If the minutes are correct and the hours are out then try changing the time zone until you get it right? Other than that I don't know what to suggest...turn it off and on again?
@mukeshchauhan79534 жыл бұрын
No, even minutes, seconds are incorrect, everytime I reboot camera it goes back to 19:00:00 31.12.1969 X=0 Y=0 and it starts moving forward from there. This is displayed as time stamp on camera image. It means it is not syncing or not getting time from NTP server during reboot. Thxanks for your reply.@@WillSurridgeTech

I can see everytime I change NTP server entry, update is failing. Another thing I am noticing in network log that it is not showing anything for DNS and Gateway, it seems blank. It should pickup from my wifi config but somehow not picking up. I am able to ping the camera over my network. If I remove the SD card and the camera doesn't connect to network!
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
That's very strange! I know you need the sd card for it to connect - as that is where the wpa config file is stored - all I can think of is to reinstall the firmware and see whether it happens again - if it does, maybe post an issue on the github for it?

Hey Will, another great vid! I have managed to get the camera flashed and streaming in home assistant fine but there is about a 20 second delay in the live stream any ideas why this might be?
@WillSurridgeTech4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I'm not sure - I know someone else said the beta version of the software was quicker, but I haven't tried myself. I just use the updating still image rather than rtsp and its about 4 seconds delay, which is better, but not ideal.
