Definitely the better way to go now for the ones sporting these - github.com/raetha/wyzesense2mqtt Keep the batteries swapped and above 80% and they will work great for quite some time. I've been seeing folks sell them on eBay. They were/are some pretty cool sensors for the price but for new folks I'd probably recommend getting into the Zigbee game.

Thanks for the great information. I just got my Wyze sense in the mail yesterday and set it up today following your instructions. The one thing that confused me was that I saw in the badge on the overview that the states are open and closed. So I tried to create an automation with the states using open and closed. But it didn’t trigger. That’s when I looked at developer states and saw the actual names are on and off. Once I updated my trigger the automation now works. I can turn on a light when the door opens. Yeah!!!

I love these sensors. I'm pulling signal strength and battery remaining percentage from them. They are really fast now that there's no cloud or IFTTT. They seem to work well at 30 to 40 feet, even through multiple walls.

Did some measurements on Google maps and got 100 ft without issue through many walls, with just one exterior wall I got over 100 ft. Plenty for me. Definitely changes things for automated lighting that I was going to do with a full blown ESP8266 and PIR.

Thanks for another informative video. I could listen to your accent all day! I managed to get the Wyze sensors up and running on my RPi, with a bit of fiddling around. Note that in the current iteration of HA (June 2020), to get to the HACS Custom Repositories, you have to click on the menu dots (top right). Also, when I had the sensor hub previously connected to a camera, I had selected LED OFF. Now when I first ran HA with the hub plugged in, the LED was orange (as per the video). However, instead of turning Blue when it synced up, the LED on mine turned off. It took me a while to realise it was actually working. Once again, thanks for your video... great work as always. I've learned heaps off you. Cheers from Australia.

Thanks! They definitely have changed up the HACS layout lately (covered the new install in my latest). That does make sense about the LED being cut off, I'll have to remember that if someone else has that issue. Thanks for the tip!

Created an automation to flash a light when motion is detected - AKA "you've got mail". Working on setting up a text alert to replace the light flash. Because i'm a noob, there's gonna be a ton of research to figure out which HA automation or script to use.

I remember as a kid we had a 49mhz Uniden with a pull out antenna. It went like half a mile down the road it seemed. The 900mhz spread spectrum ones were pretty decent but of course they moved to 2.4ghz and then for some stupid reason 5ghz which people thought was better. Hence the name of the 1.9ghz DECT phones being called 6.0 for no technical reason.

As usual, great video!! I am happy to say this was my very first “cloud free” project (haven’t used the jig you sent me yet...coming soon). I actually was able to add all three of my sensors using the Wyze Sense Component, then added the Haaska for cloudless Alexa (thanks to Dr Zzs for making an easy to follow video) and now my motion detector actually works with Alexa (I get a message when something triggers it). In regards to my motion sensor, I need to pick your brain a bit. I would like to be able to control the motion detection settings without having to connect to the Wyze cloud. I would like to have the motion sensor only covering a small area. I don’t want for the motion sensor to go off when a tree moves, but instead when a person is near the door that the sensor will be covering.

digiblurDIY I’m interested in this as well! It would be great to push this right into MQTT. Can HACS be used with a docker install? I’ve been on the hunt for some motion sensors. Would like to turn lights on at night for example. I have an rf bridge and was thinking about 433mhz sensors. What’s your thoughts on this and how does Waze compare? I like the idea of 12 month Battey life. What about outdoors in cold weather? Would the battery hold up?
@digiblurDIY
@digiblurDIY 5 жыл бұрын
I had put this to the side recently but want to mess around with it this weekend to separate things. There's a docker container for a component that connects with the Wyze "bridge" and pushes right to MQTT. github.com/dariopb/ha-gosenseapp Don't think they want you using them outdoors in cold weather given the specs say 32°F-104°F (0°C-40°C). I have a couple door sensors for the RF Bridge but I will say the Wyze stuff is smaller and easier to setup but then again the RF bridge for 433 does more things than the little USB receiver so it's really a toss up. Both are pretty quick in speed.

From your link I only see off / on in the write up below. In the first paragraph it looks like that you can use 0/off/low/closed/false for off and 1/on/high/open/true for on, but to me it is not clear. As a relatively new user it is confusing. No where in the documentation for the trigger does it reference switch type and what is allowed. I think if a user has only two choices it is much easier to understand.

word to the wyze 😀... 1 year and a 1 month later, I realized one of my doors was reporting closed all the time, even when opened. discovered the battery was dead. also discovered that if the battery dies, the device is probably bricked. called wyze and they are sending a free replacement. I still have 2 other working sensors, so I put the new CR1632 battery in the other still working contact sensor and need to buy a CR2450 battery for the motion sensor. I am considering buying some more of these sensors, but will need to set a calendar reminder to replace batteries every 8-10 months to be safe. bottom line... still impressed! update: motion sensor is dead too 😢

Nice reminder to check those batteries indeed! I've had all mine kicking for over a year now. I have heard of some draining off the bricking but then I've heard folks saying the LED will be blinking over and over.
@JohnHumbert
@JohnHumbert 4 жыл бұрын
I have had three contact sensors "bricked" because because the batteries died. I don't know if it's true, but some are saying the devices lose their MAC address if the battery dies. Wyze recently sent me two replacement contact sensors under warranty. I noticed one of the sensors was displaying the low battery warning (3 quick flashes of red LED) when I opened the package. I inserted a new battery, but that device would not pair with the bridge (even with the new battery). Wyze is aware of the issue. The contact sensor LED should flash 3-times when the pairing button is pressed with the pin. If the LED flashes 5-times when the button is pressed, the device is probably "bricked" and will not pair with the bridge.

The big take away on these is the range combined with cost of the sensor here. No mesh to worry about. This is inside an old TV cabinet (now converted to my network and IT gear rack) where I have the doors closed. I am happy to report not having a USB extention and keeping it inside the cabinet signal is strong enough to works within 140sqm single story house (it is not large). I have two sets and extra motion sensors in my set up (so 3 motion + 4 door sensors). I think this will outperform my Broadlink security kit S1C Only question I am having is whether there is a a way to reduce the state change time from detected to clear. I think it remain detected for about 30sec before state change back to clear. I have couple of other motion centers I made following Ben's tutorials and they send the state change immediately (MQTT)

Do these sensors periodically transmit their status? I see where there is signal strength and everything indicated but its hard to tell if it only transmits on state change. My only concern would be if it lost connection and the sensor was tripped that I wouldnt be notified. Also, I appreciate both live streams and condensed format videos. Shorter, to the point videos are helpful for getting just the need-to-know info and then the live stream if it looks interesting enough. Thanks!

Great video! However 8 of the 18 sensors I bought have failed in less than 6 months. Wyze no longer sells these and the HA integration developer no longer maintains it. I hope Wyze comes out with a 2.0 version of this and we can all try again, but until then I'd make alternate plans

I went ahead and switched all my batteries after a little over a year so I wouldn't lose any. I know they have been replacing them for folks. Their 2.0 version is a shift to a security panel style unfortunately. Zigbee seems to be coming down in price and with items such as the Zigbee Bridge it does make it easier. For Wyze I did switch to Wyze2mqtt as this removes the dependency on HA and works great.
