Thanks for the great information. I just got my Wyze sense in the mail yesterday and set it up today following your instructions. The one thing that confused me was that I saw in the badge on the overview that the states are open and closed. So I tried to create an automation with the states using open and closed. But it didn’t trigger. That’s when I looked at developer states and saw the actual names are on and off. Once I updated my trigger the automation now works. I can turn on a light when the door opens. Yeah!!!

Thanks for another informative video. I could listen to your accent all day! I managed to get the Wyze sensors up and running on my RPi, with a bit of fiddling around. Note that in the current iteration of HA (June 2020), to get to the HACS Custom Repositories, you have to click on the menu dots (top right). Also, when I had the sensor hub previously connected to a camera, I had selected LED OFF. Now when I first ran HA with the hub plugged in, the LED was orange (as per the video). However, instead of turning Blue when it synced up, the LED on mine turned off. It took me a while to realise it was actually working. Once again, thanks for your video... great work as always. I've learned heaps off you. Cheers from Australia.

In regards to my motion sensor, I need to pick your brain a bit. I would like to be able to control the motion detection settings without having to connect to the Wyze cloud. Would like to turn lights on at night for example. I have an rf bridge and was thinking about 433mhz sensors. What’s your thoughts on this and how does Waze compare? I like the idea of 12 month Battey life. What about outdoors in cold weather? Would the battery hold up?
@digiblurDIY5 жыл бұрын
I had put this to the side recently but want to mess around with it this weekend to separate things. There's a docker container for a component that connects with the Wyze "bridge" and pushes right to MQTT. github.com/dariopb/ha-gosenseapp Don't think they want you using them outdoors in cold weather given the specs say 32°F-104°F (0°C-40°C). I have a couple door sensors for the RF Bridge but I will say the Wyze stuff is smaller and easier to setup but then again the RF bridge for 433 does more things than the little USB receiver so it's really a toss up. Both are pretty quick in speed.

From your link I only see off / on in the write up below. In the first paragraph it looks like that you can use 0/off/low/closed/false for off and 1/on/high/open/true for on, but to me it is not clear. As a relatively new user it is confusing. No where in the documentation for the trigger does it reference switch type and what is allowed. I think if a user has only two choices it is much easier to understand.

word to the wyze 😀... 1 year and a 1 month later, I realized one of my doors was reporting closed all the time, even when opened. discovered the battery was dead. also discovered that if the battery dies, the device is probably bricked. called wyze and they are sending a free replacement. I still have 2 other working sensors, so I put the new CR1632 battery in the other still working contact sensor and need to buy a CR2450 battery for the motion sensor. I am considering buying some more of these sensors, but will need to set a calendar reminder to replace batteries every 8-10 months to be safe. bottom line... still impressed! update: motion sensor is dead too 😢

Nice reminder to check those batteries indeed! I've had all mine kicking for over a year now. I have heard of some draining off the bricking but then I've heard folks saying the LED will be blinking over and over.
@JohnHumbert4 жыл бұрын
I have had three contact sensors "bricked" because because the batteries died. I don't know if it's true, but some are saying the devices lose their MAC address if the battery dies. Wyze recently sent me two replacement contact sensors under warranty. I noticed one of the sensors was displaying the low battery warning (3 quick flashes of red LED) when I opened the package. I inserted a new battery, but that device would not pair with the bridge (even with the new battery). Wyze is aware of the issue. The contact sensor LED should flash 3-times when the pairing button is pressed with the pin. If the LED flashes 5-times when the button is pressed, the device is probably "bricked" and will not pair with the bridge.

Sweet. Thanks for this video. Watched it about 5 times now for about 9 (failed) HA setups on my new Pi4-64. I good one so far. I'm pretty new with HA but have been eventghosting on PC for years. One question how do I get the dynamic icons for a Wyze contact sensor. I have one so far. For garage door btw. But want the opened/closed look with 2 icons. Know what I mean? Thanks again for all great videos.

I know I've heard issues with using the 64bit on various things. In the GUI, I just pick the entity then hit the gear icon, in the icon override you can put any mdi icon in there. Like mdi:mailbox to get that one.

@@digiblurDIY Txs. Found the device /dev/hidraw2 (0 and 1 is used for keyboard and mouse), plugged it in after the install and restarted after updating configuration.yaml. Device doesn't turn blue. Note: I have made the receiver available to VirtualBox through config | USB and when I plug/unplug the receiver the VirtualBox log captures these operations. Home Assistant built via the official .OVA appliance file available on the Home Assistant website. So I'm not sure what else to do here
@meierthomas4 жыл бұрын
Found the issue plugged in the Wyze receiver while at the console and it popped up as /dev/hidraw0! I ran dmesg | grep hidraw outside the VM and of course the OS sees all three devices (keyboard, mouse and Wyze receiver) whereas I setup a filter in VirtualBox for the Wyze receiver only. Dumb mistake but ok now. txs again for the great video. Will likely be getting some more door sensors. Also just found out that the Wyze cam has an alternative firmware to support RTSP and so can be integrated into Home Assistant via motionEye (credit to DrZzs). And at $20 these cams are not expensive.
@digiblurDIY4 жыл бұрын
Glad you got it! It can be weird at times with various systems to pass in usb devices. I found those RTSP feeds to be kind of buggy myself so I ended up sticking with my little Reolink cams I have been using.

After watching your video about WYZE Sense, I had to order the kit. Just got it today and going to setup. I must say design wise Wyze sensors are way cooler than other sensors, very sleek design. I do have one question though, I'm running HA docker on RPi 4 and also setup HA docker in OMV. What would you recommend RPi4 or different Linux server for HA?

If you have a Linux box running already I would definitely run on that. If not roll with the Rpi4.

Hi. Awesome tutorial. Got my Wyze starter pack running without much hassle. My Pi is not in the best location in my house (can't change it). I used a USB extension cable (1m) as you suggested, but although the range is impressive, like you said, our 9" stone walls and 7" concrete floors are very unforgiving. I tried a 3m USB cable I had lying around to put the Wyze hub in a better location but it does not work and the LED remains Amber. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could make this work? Thanks. PS I learned a lot from guys like yourself and others. Thank you.

Travis, how would you add the individual wyze sensors to the configuration.yaml directly (i.e. text editor) rather than the UI method you showed?
@digiblurDIY5 жыл бұрын
You don't add the sensors to the yaml, the UI actually pairs it with the USB receiver itself.
