Lets hope some random person from Sweden sees this video and has the VHS of the film so it can be dumped online!

It's not that easy. The rights to the programme belongs to the television company Sveriges Television and story itself is still under copyright. Try to do that and you'll get a note that you have published material under copyright.

I was stupid not to save it back when it was available but I assumed it would be a permanent archive. They also removed a BUNCH of old childrens programming from SVTPlay along with Chokladfabriken. But someone made an audio book from the audio of the film (it works as well to listen to as to watch actually). I have it but I don't know if it is still online... go fishing...? 🙂

I’m swedish, born in the early 00s, and this miniseries aired one time as a re-run when I was a kid. But as I am swedish it should be easier for me to somehow find it… Also - the 1971 movie was never marketed at all here. It IS dubbed, but it was dubbed in the 90s and just exists on random VHSes. Everyone knows the 2005 movie though xP And I personally have a very strong nostalgia for it. It has great music and I can quote it word for word in the swedish dub. Unpopular opinion, but that’s how it is

I have this, both VHSes and the 10 episodes in digital format. The only differences about the TV version and the VHS versions is that Ernst-Hugo Järegård has a small extra line before the ''animation'' starts like: And now the story about Kalle (Charlie) is being continued etc. Im working on upgrading the quality a bit.

I remember seeing it the first time in 1998, a rerun which I think was caused by the death of the original narrator, the Swedish actor Ernst-Hugo Järegård. He told it to the illustrations made by the Swedish illustrator Bengt-Arne Runnerström. It was original shown on SVT 2 in 1983 and later shown in reruns. The series was also shown in Norway at NRK TV in 1986 with the late comedian Trond Kirkvaag as the Norwegian narrator. It was released on 2 VHS in Sweden and has also sometimes being published on SVT Play through their archive part Öppet Arkiv, but the issue is this - you can only watching it in Sweden because of right issues.

Holy moly this a great video. I've done so much digging and research on every adaption of CatCF I can think of ever since I was a kid and even still today, but I have never heard or stumbled across this version. I really dig the art style and the designs for the characters. It definitely captures the vibe of the book pretty well judging from the illustrations shown in the vid. It's such a big shame though that it's lost media, but not that surprising to be honest. I’m hoping someday it will be retrieved and uploaded somewhere but we can only hope. On a side note: It's so nice to see more fans of CatCF and Wonka-related media. I've always felt a bit lonely with my interest in the story because it’s often not something many people would look too deep into or appreciate on that sort of level if you get what I mean. It's also a bit uncomfortable labelling yourself as a fan of it because of people's obsession with Violet’s predicament (which I don't need to explain why that's wrong) and how widespread it is. But besides all of that, I deeply appreciate you making videos relating to this awesome story. Thank you!
@josephbradley6967 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this comment! And about the Swedish Cartoon being lost media, I've a few people on Reddit say they've contacted SVT about it and I do feel that there's a chance they'll put it back up sometime in the near future. Hopefully. And yes, being a fan of Willy Wonka feels... strange. It's a franchise with a lot of stuff to look into but at the same time its a very niche franchise, so niche that it's spawned lost media. There's this, a deleted scene from the 1971 film, entire troves of advertising material from the WONKA company (most of which is, sadly, likely lost forever). One huge positive with it is that I get to talk with other Wonka fans on here, and hearing other people's opinions.
@robbiewalker2831 Жыл бұрын
@@josephbradley6967 from what I know about 2005 Wonka, the film was made in tribute to Roald Dahl, and it was a passion project in collaboration between Tim Burton and Roald’s Widow Felicity. Joshscorcher did mention about why from an internal standpoint Wonka would look like that; it’s because 2005 Wonka is an introvert. I don’t want to get into an argument over his design, but given Wonka found a single grey hair with some little stress, he could be in his 40s. I mean, should he be holding such a contest when he has an entire mop of grey hair? People would be suspicious about it. Not only that, but if those kids were spoiled rotten and Wonka is to see who would be the *least rotten,* do you think he would give up his entire factory to either of the kids that aren’t Charlie? Heck, the book stated that most kids in the world are miserable, so I don’t see any reason Wonka should allow any bad apples into his pile; that’s kind of the point as to why Charlie won by default, in a four-to-one estimate that represents 80% bad kids and 20% good kids. Other than that, I’m not holding this against you; I just think it’s a fine adaptation for anyone interested in the book; but I’m sure this swedish cartoon can work too. If you are to complain about how the Tim Burton film is a travesty (even though it’s approved by the Roald Dahl estate), try complaining about it to Media Momentos, who gave glowing praise to how it captured the characterizations of the characters, contrasting with the Mel Stewart film. One last thing is that when I think of adaptation, I think of taking the source material and reinterpret the narrative with some additions that enhances the story. For example, one of the things I like about the 2005 film (that Joshscorcher also liked) is that Grandpa Joe was Wonka’s faithful employee. It helps contexualize how much Grandpa Joe knows so much about Wonka, and why he was chosen to join Charlie to go to the factory.

As a Swede, born in 1980, I clearly remember watching this as a kid when it was originally broadcasted. Come to think about, it must be one of the earliest TV-memories I can recall. And recall it I do - vividly! Such an amazing experience for a 3-4-year old. The image of August Glupsk (or Augustus Gloop, as I learned his name was when watching the 2005 version ...) falling into the chocolate river and getting sucked up the pipe really scared me! A couple of years later, I read the book and then, as an adult binge re-watched the series on those VHS-tapes, that apparently are legendary now, at a friends place. So, you see, to me THIS is the original. Didn't even know about the 1971 version until Family Guy spoofed it at that Pawtucket Pat episode and then later when Gene Wilder became a smug meme. What I didn't know as a small child, but do appreciate way more now as a grown-up is the OUTSTANDING voice acting skills of the late Ernst-Hugo Järegård. He's a one man show that does the job here like no other would be able to. If you want to see him in action search for some clips from "Skånska mord" (Scanian murders) here on KZbin, where he portraits a couple of truly evil psychopaths in different episodes. In retrospect, Kalle och chokladfabriken is the greatest cultural experience of my early childhood and it makes me both baffled and oh so happy to see it get some international attention!

i need all of your help… a lots of years ago, i think i was 7. i all ways remember this one image. it was my little pony like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with someone in My Little Pony characters taking roles as the other characters from movie. Pinkie Pie was Willy Wonka, rarity was violet, CMC was the Oompa Loompas, in fact I don’t even think Equestria Girls happened yet, because I remember the next one Twilight Sparkle was black. the rest of the characters was white… well apart from rarity who was a blueberry. I mean rainbow dash and Fluttershy had wings in that one with white skin kind of like the MLH animations. I means it looks colouring and pencils with only a single page with 3 parts in it. the first two parts are at the top and they were small it’s mostly included of Twilight talking to pinkie Wonka I guess didn’t understand what they were saying and the third page, rarity was a blueberry wearing violet’s suit with the 5 girls looking at her and the CMC rolling her. I guess that’s it from me really I mean I do like to recover this one day because I just really want to uncover all my childhood again. (and to see what the heck Twilight talking to pinkie Wonka was?), hope you guys can help find it? it ill be called: #findPinkieWonkaComicSript or #FPWCS spared the word.

Though I can't say adaptions since I've only known about "Green Eggs" and haven't read the "Age of Resistance" comics. That being said, those two did capture the essence of the Seuss books and the original "Dark Crystal" film.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the original also but cmon I’m 6 min in the video and it’s been nothing but negativity. 😅

I think I prefer the other films for their own originality. Especially because kids watching it want more modernized things so clearly they need to somewhat adapt. The West end musical will always be my favorite because of its humor but I think not every adaptation needs to follow the book completely. 05 and 71 may not be the most faithful adaptations but both hold up so well and are still widely recognized

Good video, The 71 version has a reason for its many changes that I totally agree with, one certain things couldn’t be done because of budget and where technology was at the time, and two the book back then was extremely flawed and problematic with certain things, so I’d say be happy that the 71 version is not book accurate because it would’ve aged poorly, also to mention this, if it’s word for word of the book, is it really an adaptation
