I needed a summary of this movie too because I keep putting it off due to poor time-management. I watched the Remake on DVD. But since the Covid-Pandemic Lockdowns, I saw that there were a lot of Movie-Summaries here on KZbin. Very helpful.

4 Kids to make candy for the entire world? I don't think a genius guy would do this over the top killing spree for such a small gain.

If this isn't sarcasm then you're disillusioned. There are purposeful "adult" in-jokes that Dahl sneaked into the screenplay for the sake of fucking with the producers (i.e "snozzberries", and "Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker"). Outside of that, there's no other evidence that supports your theory. The film/book's about a man who's beginning to question the purity of children, and is starting to doubt his ability to bring sufficient cheer to said children. Wonka, having grown up in an abusive home (shown in the book/remake), has always wanted to make sure no other children have reason for equivalent misery. However, as people have become more self-involved (and, as shown, materialist consumers), he's begun to think that maybe his candy can't do what it set out to. He merely wants to see if there's any good left in the world (where else to look but at our children?). When Wonka sings 'Pure Imagination', as everyone basks in his beautiful factory, it's because his doubts and fears are (for a moment) extinguished (him biting the cup at the end is a humorous cessation to the brief moment of bliss). Wonka blows up at the end, and shows his vulnerabilities, because he's utterly disappointed (Grandpa Joe calling him a "monster" only makes it worse). He wanted most, if not all, of the children who visited his factory to make it to the end, without succumbing to their temptations and desires -- which would ultimately result in farcical consequences (btw, in the book/remake, the children are shown leaving the factory, so it should be assumed that the same goes for this film, though obvious budget restrictions determined otherwise). Wonka has always been portrayed as a genius going through a crisis. His bipolar tendencies are a clear example of this. I'll agree that the film has adult themes, but not the ones you imply. It's about two individuals experiencing hard, testing, times. Both Wonka and Charlie are individuals who have been forced to go though emotionally straining experiences centred around self-doubt, which is why the ending is as touching as it is. Wonka whispering, "So shines a good deed in a weary world...", after Charlie places the gobstopper on the desk, is a clear sign of all of this. The underlining melancholy of these two characters' lives being abruptly (yet realistically) diminished is why many cry at the end of the film. I get your discrepancies about the their being less seats for passengers, but I think those are just plot-holes that you can again blame on budget/time restrictions.

RollingBottleFilms so they cant show the children leaving the factory because of....budget , really ????. How about this the filmakers wanted to scare or unnerve the viewers as well as entertain them so they makew you belive that sinister things 'could' be happening in the factory ...if you discount the sinister and strange possibilities of Willy Wonka then you're ignoring one of the reasons why the film works on people and why it has stuck around for all these years

You say to take a few minutes for you to explain this, and I have wasted six minutes of my life that I will never get back. For one thing, Wonka kept his factory shut out to the world for three years, but candy was still being made. If no one was allowed inside for that long, how would he get the children that you claim he needs? Someone I've seen elsewhere on the Internet told me something along the lines of "What if he kidnapped children secretly during that time?", which is also complete hogwash. Since the factory was open for the first time to the WORLDWIDE public in this film, any kidnapped children would have had to be local. Eventually, so many kids would be missing that the police would be issuing search parties all over the place, and Wonka would be one of the top suspects, since his place is complex and all other places would have been much easier to search for evidence, leading to everyone distrusting him long before the movie. And hfd484 is right. How would four children be enough to make all those billions of Wonka bars and other candies that you see in the film? If this was the true reason he sent out the Golden Tickets, wouldn't he invite a few dozen children to his factory instead? The missing seats make perfect sense without your explanation. Wonka was testing all those kids, and he knew that at least one would not follow the rules and thus be disqualified. If any kid followed the rules long enough to receive an Everlasting Gobstopper, all they had to do was bring it back, and then they would be forgiven from their downfall. Another important point to bring up is that the Quaker Oats company intended this to be a children's film. Since they wanted this to be a children's film, they were actually worried about the tunnel scene. They managed around it somehow, but this just goes to show you that if they were worried about that suggestive content, certainly they would have been worried about any strong hints that explicitly showed your theory. Also, the whole "the kids have to be spoiled to be an ingredient" makes no sense. What would personality have to do with how the chocolate tastes? In almost every case of cannibals in other media, they want only the good children because spoiled children are almost always portrayed as tasting bad. At the end of the video, you say to subscribe to your channels. But after seeing this poor performance of a video that wasted part of my time, do you really think that I am going to do that?

I never saw the movie, just a few parts of it. The Tunnel scene for example. I have also seen a lot of parodys from Family Guy, Futurama and others. But i always found it very creepy too. Without even seeing it, i always thought something is horribly wrong with Wonka. I was looking for a summary of the movie to find out what actually happens with the kids and came across your theory. Sounds plausible so far. Now i'm going to look for a neutral summary.
