I could watch these videos all day with you making panels and building the Jeep body.

I should be back on the body build soon. Just a few things to get out of the shop and then back to the body build. Hang in there.

Good to see that tooling I passed along to you is being used! Nice work Brian!

All the sheet metal stakes and tooling are well cared for and working all the time to create various sheetmetal projects.

Those are strong spot welds.

Was there a uniform spot weld pattern from the factory on the old jeeps? Were they done by hand during the old days of production or did they have an automated process?
@metalshaperJeep3 жыл бұрын
The bodies were mostly hand built and the spot weld pattern was up to the person doing it. When I build bodies for prototype or museum quality Jeeps I always duplicate the spot welds exactly as the factory made them. When building a regular body tub I just put them where they are necessary.

@@metalshaperJeep it’s pretty cool that each body must have had a slightly different touch since they were hand made. I wish I could go back in time and get a tour of the factory while it was in full swing

Hey Brian, I recently bought my very first car/project. It's a wrangler 87 and there's a lot of job to do on the body...Can you tell what gauge of metal sheets you are using??? Is it the same gauge for side panels or braces. thank you for your videos ,they convinced to buy a jeep and try myself at shaping metal and go through the whole restoration process

are you planning on making the whole tub? looks awsome good video.
@metalshaperJeep8 жыл бұрын
Yes I will be building the whole tub. If the cowl and firewall are in good enough condition I will use them in the build. Thanks very much for the comment, glad you are enjoying the series.

Watched a whole bunch of your videos..curious to how you got started fabricating..family business?..you went to trade school for it?..very knowledgeable man
@metalshaperJeep6 жыл бұрын
I started at a young age making things out of sheet metal. No family business, or trade school. Guess you can say I learned from the school of hard knocks. Patience and determination are two major things needed in metalshaping and I have them both. Thanks for watching and keep looking for more videos that are coming soon. Brian

Good metal work, but I would have marked and spaced the spot welds evenly, and in a straight line.
@metalshaperJeep7 жыл бұрын
When building and restoring Willys Jeep vehicles I try to keep the original look. they never had perfectly straight spot welds and an over restored jeep looks terrible. Too many people make them as smooth and perfect as a new car and they never looked like that from the factory. Just keeping things original in my videos.

I am using 18 gauge cold rolled steel in this video. In other areas of the body tub there are various different gauges of steel which I will explain as I make the parts. Good luck with your first project. Patience is key !! keep calm and do the best job you can. Keep watching there are many more videos coming.
