A real eye-opener on that sludge in the pan. Still trying to get my new-to-me 49 3a to run but think I’ll pull my pan for a look-see before I put any new oil in it. If my plug electrodes are worn to nothing I can only image what attention the innards of this motor got. Once again your videos are proving incredibly useful to this L134 noob - thank you!

It is really good that this engine still has standard journals and bores, it looks like it has sat around idle for a long time looking at the rope seal register, any moisture would have caused corrosion of the type you see here, and the sump sludge! I can only imagine what would have got drawn up into the oil ways when that lot warmed up. Stay safe! Chris B.

The owner was trying to start this engine and I am glad he never got it going....... would have made a real mess of things if the sludge got into the oil galleries. Otherwise a great engine to rebuild.

Hi, I love your content and you've really helped me with my cj2a. Can I make a suggestion? I find your camera is often too close and slightly out of focus enough that it is hard to see the details. You might find that something like a DJI Osmo Action camera to be much, much easier, and more convenient to use. It is super small, always in focus, it has a rear screen so you can see what you are pointing it at, and incredibly stable. In this video, for instance, we could not see what your hands were doing with the valves. They were out of frame. Anyway, it's just a suggestion and worth exactly what you paid for it. ;-) Thanks again for all the great content. Kind regards,

Great video Brian! Yes I'd love to see how you pinstripe a rim. Never seen the procedure. Also I agree with Dan I'd like to see how you set the crankshaft end play.

A timely video for me....I'm about to rip my L134 apart. I appreciate your going over details and showing the engine guts up close. I'd love to see the bearing dowels if you get a chance.....my engine has straight, not stepped dowels! doh!
@metalshaperJeep4 жыл бұрын
Will show them during assembly. they should have a step because the block is larger than the bearing shell. Make sure they are correct because you don't want to have any problems there when the engine starts.

Brian, thank you for all you do. I really appreciate you. (You guided me through T90 rebuild). My engine was running last fall. Tried to get going this winter, but finding fluid in the intake manifold and now engine is seized. Oil pan and head removed, nothing obvious to me. Getting ready to pull engine. Anything I should look at or check before pulling engine?
@metalshaperJeep2 жыл бұрын
Just yank that engine out and check everything. Measure everything and then carefully check for cracks and finally make sure you do a pressure check to see where the problem is.

Yes, Brian I want to see how you do pinstripe. I'm writing down the proper tools your using. I'm going to rebuild my dad's jeep for my mom, most of his tool are stolen after the super typhoon. Also searching for best jeep parts to purchase. Can you help. Thank you. Another thing, the feeler gauge for the valves used is it 40 thousandth or 30 thousandth.
@metalshaperJeep4 жыл бұрын
Let me know what parts you need and I can tell you the best place to get them. when setting valve clearance it varies a little bit between L and F head engines . .016" for intake and exhaust on the L head.

T98 4 speed BW rebuild kit? Source?
@metalshaperJeep4 ай бұрын
T98 parts are tough to find these days. You can get gaskets and some small parts thru most transmission parts dealers. Gears and hard parts are hard to find and that is why most people are moving to the T18 because everything is available for them.
