Totally with you on thoughts regarding KZbin and film photography. Started film in 2008 when it was losing popularity, films and gear were cheap. I paused in 2016, sold part of my gear (of which a mint Black M6 for 700$, the price paid used years before). Got back at it in 2020 to discover all the Shore and Egglestone trends had spread over KZbin (and by extension Instagram), people massively shooting gas station, American urban environment, old cars and launderette... Discovered also that all my gear made me rich 😂 However it is a shame that creativity can be sometimes slowdowned by massive trends that the algorithm identified as successful. Great work by the way!

You can tell you're into all this because photography is important, not for analog photography fame. That's really nice to see, because lately I've found the whole analog bubble rather toxic.
@willysheepskin3 жыл бұрын
I’m glad my enthusiasm for the photo things comes across! What aspects of the analog things do you find toxic?
3 жыл бұрын
@@willysheepskin You mentioned Matt Day and that there was no getting around him in 2015, or rather that a few enthusiasts explained analog photography to us in a very unexciting way. I miss that time a bit. Today, many photograph very generic subjects and use them to focus engagement in their social media channels. The community is constantly chewing over what has brought likes from others. This then calls up some meme accounts that rightly hold up a mirror to the scene, but on the other hand also create a toxic mood. It seems to me that #800T is more important than any content, statement or concept in the motif. People don't take pictures to say, look what I saw, but they say: look, that's something photographed on film. It's become a lifestyle, and it's a distraction, especially for those who are just getting into photography. In the end, it doesn't matter with which technique or on which medium a motif was created. What is important is what it tells us and what we feel when we look at it. Unfortunately, this important point is completely lost from view. The CineStill Glow is more important than that. ;) I think I only really became aware of what was going wrong when I saw the trialer to the Moment Workshop by Joe Greer. He moans for 10 minutes in front of a crappy barn about how great the subject is. What kind of statement does that make, please? What good does that do anyone? Yet this "content" is soaked up by everyone and they want to emulate it. This may result in likes, but not great photography.
@robbiemurrie75623 жыл бұрын
I found the imposter syndrome answer very interesting. I'm 38 and only now have just started my hnd in photography (after leaving working on building sites) because I come from a very poor background in Scotland and photography seemed like an exclusively middle class white male endeavour and I'd never belong. I use a digital camera (you need one for college) I bought from gumtree second hand because it's all I could afford. I sold personal belongings to buy my RB67 and I still sometimes, stupidly, feel that's not enough when I see videos with a leica, mamiya 7 and yashica t4 all in one so your answer is something I need to tell myself more often.
@willysheepskin3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not about the gear! Use my rb for most of my work at this point and have friends that have shot for google/Nike with Rb67’s, they’re more than enough!
