Outstanding work, William. Seeing the process and the results was amazing. Could not help but think of Stephen Shore's road trip that became Uncommon Places when seeing the breadth of your images. That is high praise, sir. One last observation. The images of the three boys with the wire toys instantly struck me as a modern interpretation of August Sanders's Three Young Farmers. Again, high praise for making such varied and interesting photos. Looking forward to seeing a book in the future.

This is most certainly the highest praise I could hope for, and I really really appreciate the kind words and useful references.

Amazing Will, watched the whole thing. Stunning images and storytelling. Finding sense of home is an interesting topic for many of us especially with the vast moving around and globalisation now. My parents were born in Kenya, grandparent from Tanzania but we descend from North India. And I was born in the UK. Something I'm keen to explore more around too. The portraits at 1:31:46 and 1:39:20 are just incredible! Question: I really like how you compose and the rendering from the still life scenes like 1:31:59, 1:32:10, 49:10, 46:30. What lens on the RB do you typically use for this? I'm looking at similar pentax 67 lenses but think I may need some extension tubes to minimise the close focusing distance
@willysheepskinКүн бұрын
Thanks so much for taking the time Shanil! Your heritage sounds like it would be fascinating to explore! Tanzania is where I'll head next once I wrap up this project I reckon since that's where I grew up haha! It's well worth looking into things like this, there's a lot to be learnt from where one comes from I reckon! So glad you like those portraits, really happy with how they turned out! With regards to those still lifes, all of them were shot with my 90mm RB67 lens, and I think the majority of the ones you mention are also lit with my flash. The flash has a lot to do with the rendering since the Octabox creates maaarvellous light, but yes you might need extension tubes with the 67 to get similar close focus to some of them since it's minimum focus distance isn't the closest. I used one for a video I'll put out soon and actually really enjoyed it! Hope the lighting breakdown can be of use for some of your questions too, thanks so much for the support!

Firstly, great video! Subbed and looking forward to watching the rest! Can I ask your opinion on something? What is the difference between 'making a picture' and 'taking aa picture'? Hearing people say making a picture a fair bit these days.
@willysheepskin2 күн бұрын
Thanks a ton Jamie! I dunno if there's really a difference technically, I think making a picture kind of leans more into acknowledging that there's an element of the presence of the photographer being there as part the scene, where as taking is more of the scene already existing and someone taking something out of it. I guess in that way street photography would feel more like taking and fashion would feel more like making. I use them interchangeably but if I had to guess I'd say there could be an element of that interpretation involved in it haha! Cheers!
