I am a visually impaired golfer who doesn't always hit the ball in the sweet spot. My usual error is to get a little steep and it just behind the ball. I would be lying if I said that swing resets in a perfect shot, but the result is much better with the Wilsons. Usually I still get about 80% of a good sot. Late last summer I traded my JPX 817 Hot Metal irons, which I really liked, for the Launch Pad irons in reg steel. I instantly picked up an average of 8 yards per stick and was hitting the 4 iron with confidence. They are awesome.

wow, these clubs do rock ! I have the whole set - custom fit like McGolf said to 120 g stiff D4, oversize grips... These are for pure shot making. I can call on them to do ANYTHING ! - bottom groove low cheaters that stick, hoist them off the tee - enormous high ! You can hood or cut the hell out of these things with absolute ease. New shot - bore the heel hard into the turf and crank it - these soles have no fear !

I like the idea. I tested a Cleveland HB Launcher with a A-flex shaft and was impressed with distance and ease of hitting. If these are anywhere as good, then worth a look. Being a slower swing speed player (age 66- 80 mph) with a hybrid and play single length player, I am eager to see a review of the new Wishon EQ1-NX hollow body SL irons set. I have found that hybrids work better for me in the 3,4,5 iron ( 25 degree loft or less use a hybrid) area. I was interested to see the TXG channel video with Ron the senior golfer finding that his 6 iron ( 29 degree) was outperformed by a hybrid. Maybe these hyb-irons can be used in the 19-29 degree end of the bag for senior golfers?
@kymstock18523 жыл бұрын
I finally got around to addressing my 6 iron ( 29 loft) carry distance fluctuation problem. It is wholly due to poor strike during games, because on the range using my PRGR launch monitor I can get decent shots that carry my expected 135m ( 148 yd) 3 out of 5 shots. But, as in games the other 2 shots were back near 125m ( my 7 iron carry) . Maybe I am tyring too hard to add force to the ball, or maybe at my swing speed I have reached my one length " barrier" for good gapping. I experimented using my wife's Cleveland HB Turbo 7 iron( 30 degree loft) and got most shots around 132m. I searched the internet for a 29 degree iron-hybrid style club and found the Tour Edge Hot Launch 521E 6 iron. It finally arrived from the USA and I tried it . I got consistent 135-133m shots with it. The down side for me is the offset with these clubs is more than I am used to and the resultant draw shape required me to aim more right of target, making fades less easy. TE do have a C model with less offset, but the loft is 28 which is getting a bit close to to my 5 Hybrid ( 25). Where were these clubs five years ago wen I started playing golf and I faded every shot??? IMO starting golf with this style of clubs makes a lot of sense, as does blending them in the long iron area for average golfers with cavity backed short irons.

Recently purchased Tour Edge Ironwoods after looking at Cleveland and Wilson. What made my decision was made in the USA. They all hit the same and preferred the lofts on the Tour Edge.

Hello Colin now you have had the LP irons for some time now how do you like them. whats the pros and cons. thinking about trying them out. Thanks Mel (UK)
@colinharris444 жыл бұрын
@@melwalker2135 they are great. Very forgiving if you find it hard to get the ball in the air these are ideal. The only con is every now and then you will get a low spinning knuckle ball which goes miles especially out of the rough. But luckily it doesn't happen that often. I love the 4 iorn it is so easy to hit off the tee and fairway it's probably my favourite club

Hello again Colin hope you and yours are safe and well. Do you still like the Launchpad irons. Can you tell me how the paintwork is standing up to riggers of bag knocks and general wear. Regards Mel

@@melwalker2135 still loving them. As I have played with them more and more I have found i am aiming a lot straighter my fade still there but now it's more of a drifft rather than a slice. The clubs themselves are holding up well there are one or two marks but nothing I would put down to anything other than normal wear and tear
@banditbaker16754 жыл бұрын
For an SGI club, they look pretty compact, some of them in my experience look hideous. Luckily despite being an ageing Golfer, I can still get the ball airborne, but if I start losing height in my Irons I will be at the front of the queue. I had been using Irons for a few years that had pretty wide soles, but last year I went back to a more traditional sole design and a weaker loft, and my ball striking really improved. For some reason the chunkier soles didn't really suit my swing characteristics.
@eggsmann5943 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. But these Wilsons outperformed the other SGI flat soles I've compared them to. I never hit it fat or need height ever. but I want clubs that work without coming out of my shoes anymore at my age...if you know what I mean.

I will say, that the best set of irons that I have ever hit, were a copy of the Nike Slingshot, which I built myself. They hit awesome, and super forgiving, but I could not get past the fat look of the clubs, so I sold them. I am a thinner top line almost blade guy, but those others felt awesome, and I hit them really well. I just hated the look. I can still hit something like a TM RSI Forged a lot farther than the cavity backs, and I do not have issues hitting any irons straight. Being out of work for 2 years, I have had to sell my irons, and a few woods, so I can't even go play now.

I've never understood the I loved them, but hated the look, so I got rid of them. To me, the only factor is how well I hit them.

First, let me say how much I appreciate your videos. I enjoy tinkering with my clubs have followed Tom Wishon for many years and learned a lot about the importance of club length and shaft characteristics for different swing types. As I've aged (79 y/o) and had to deal with lower back and hip issues as well as a loss of swing speed, I've been struggling to maintain some semblance of decent swing to keep a respectable game. I'm toying with the idea of switching to a hybrid set like the Wilson LP and Cleveland Launcher Turbo to help make it a little easier. I'm currently playing Titleist 716 AP1 with senior shafts and play to a 13 handicap. I would appreciate any thoughts that you may have. Thanks
@kymstock18523 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne. I ( age 66/ handicap 12 ) have been playing with a older version of the Cleveland HB Launcher irons and a Tour Edge Hot Launch 521E 6 iron. They are easy to hit and give decent spin. I would suggest that you replace your 4,5,6 irons with clubs from any of the companies that can match your 716AP1 iron set lofts and see if they suit you. I have used the HB Launchers up to GW and an older TE Bazooka iron -hybrid SW ( in the bunkers and approach shots/ chipping) and they worked fine. My only concern is that they are difficult to fade on command, but not impossible.

I really like the Wilson Launchpad irons.. The only bad thing for me is the large amount of offest - especially in the irons 7 - PW, SW.. Of the three major hybrid irons (cleveland HB Launcher, Cobra T-rails, and this Wilson Launchpad), the Wilson Launchpad has the most offset. Very disappointing that Wilson added so much offset (at least for me).. Also it would have been nice to at least mention how these LP's compare to the Wilson D7 iron.. I don't think that was mentioned.. (Don't get me wrong, still a great, informative video - thank you!!)

I think it’s difficult to get people to try clubs that look different than the traditional look. At the top end everyone always puts: The Blade. Due to marketing everyone thinks that they’re the best. Yup they’re the best looking but why not make the game easier and go for an easier iron to hit. I think public is a little brain-washed when it comes to this.

The numbers the gentleman from Wilson quoted makes me wonder- he's talking about 12 handicappers hitting fat to the point they need irons designed to improve a fundamental swing issue? I must be misunderstanding something.

Your post kind of points out the truth about branding power. If TM and Callaway came out with these exact clubs, they would sell massive amounts of this club.
