I work in Industrial Maintenance. And after a long day of work and sneaking in a range session my hands were sore. I changed to these grips and after a bit of an adjustment period I love them. No pain after practicing or playing. I understand they aren't for everyone but they help me play more golf and that's a win win.

I work in the same field. And being a former baseball player it felt like home when I put them on my clubs. After being on the end of a wrench or ratchet for a day your hands stay sore. And once I switched to these it feels much better and I feel more control and face awareness on the club.

My wife put oversized winn grips on her clubs as she has issues with carpal tunnel already. They make a huge difference for her. We were travelling a few weeks back and rented clubs with normal grips and she complained about her wrists throughout the round, so it's definitely helpful for people with hand/wrist problems!

Hi I know it is long time since the post, intrested to know of your wife hand size and what size of oversized grip does she use. My wife is in the same situation but mens oversize grip is that to much?
@bluetoughguy
@bluetoughguy 10 ай бұрын
@coolman5788 the winn grips are pretty spongy feeling so oversized works with her hands just fine. There's never really a worry of the club slipping out of your hand. The only real thing to worry about is just getting the club face back to square with the bigger grips. She doesn't really seem to have that issue though. May be worth trying it just to one club first (that's what we did with her 8 iron) before investing in the entire set.

I’ve played with them for years now. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. The one thing I wasn’t aware of was how heavy some the grips were. It changed my swing weight by a lot. And I played like that for several years. Last year I switched to the light version (which is same weight as standard grips) and it made a world of difference.

I swapped to the larger grips about a year ago and I haven't looked back. My miss tended to be a bit of a hook and after getting use to the size difference in the grips, my ball striking has been so much better! I didnt go as large as you, I ended up with the Tour Series Standard Oversize grips as the larger ones were just a bit "too much" for me. Loving the content Pete, keep it up!

I hit some balls the other day with some demo clubs that had the way oversized grips and I would need to get used to them but I had a couple shots with them that totally took me by surprise becuase I just connected and hit a bomb. Something about it really helps my striking and my normal Alice I’ve learned how to play with was gone. I’m almost due for a regrip on my irons and I think I’m just going to switch everything over to them.

I’ve used these for 2 years now and would never go back. I struggled with terrible hand pain after a round and these grips have been transformative. My handicap went from 13 down to 8 as well so something’s working technically too. I don’t really analyse it too much though. I just put it down to feeling confident because I can hit without pain. Thanks for introducing me to the idea of these in the first place Pete.

I've done club assembly for a hobby and I experimented with oversized grips just to see whether they would be more comfortable. They were comfortable but I had problems releasing the club and tended to block the shot to right. I had to make swing adjustments and really struggled to shape shots with the oversized grips. Most of my friends that tried them had similar issues. They do help people with arthritis in their hands and other pain. Good to know they are helping with your hand pain. Thanks for sharing!

I think a midsized grip might be a good compromise. I would recommend trying it on one club to see about the feel and whether you can consistently release the club. If you're happy with the performance of the changed club, then regrip the rest of your set. @@michaelbrooks5998

Mid size is still WAY too small. Each size up is only 4 wraps. Next is Jumbo, and then the Jumbo Max series. Jumbo Max - Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large. They also come in three styles.. Tour, Straight, and Ultra Lights. If you don't like the idea of using Bryson's Jumbo Max - Ultra Light - Extra Large size grips... or.. have smaller hands.... then get a Jumbo Max Small, or Extra Small, it's a lot better than the toothpick size standard grips. I'm 6'4" and Love the same ones Bryson uses. Try Jumbo Max Smalls to start.

I started up golfing back in 2022, at 43yrs of age. I also did play from age 14-22 off and on. Last year I caught the golfing bug in a big way and got fitted for irons and driver. I was then asked about grip, to which I had no reply. So the tech/fitter checked me out and instantly told me to go MIDSIZE, and so I had all my clubs regripped before ever using them. (PING G430). I cannot believe the difference it has made. Instantly giving me club head control and even allowing me some more swing speed. I have even considered a OVERSIZED grip for my driver. I went with a WINN Dri-Tac oversized for my driver, and I cannot describe in words the effect. It can only be felt and seen in the ball striking improvements im making. Grips are a super huge important part of the whole enchilada, it cannot be overlooked, or disregarded. Get what you fit into and what your fingers and palms like.

I finished playing college baseball this last year. When our season was canceled when Covid initially happened I got into golf, but couldn’t stand the tiny grips on the clubs. When I got my own clubs I asked the fitter if there was any bigger options similar to a baseball size grip. It makes a difference. Larger grips mean more surface contact with your hands meaning more control. I want my whole hand dexterity when playing sports.

Used to play cricket and using bigger grips would be way better for control and feel (Even double/ triple grips). I've only just started and watched Bryson as you did use them and genuinely feel like bigger grips are a much better way to play. Tempted to change my Golf Bidder clubs to them. Another idea, that we changed using hockey grips on our bats and they're great. Might try that first.

Brilliant! Thanks Pete. I have big hands with long fingers and also a bent lead wrist, from a badly healed break. I use a midsize grip - it was a big help when I changed to them, and I wanted to try bigger, but I didn’t have the nerve. You have convinced me to try them. You’re right, we golfers use what we use through history and tradition, and we are all scared to be different and have the piss taken out of us (you can tell I play mostly with men!) but I’m definitely gonna risk it!

As a very senior (archaic) golfer I can understand and feel the pain that you have. I have arthritis in my fingers and if I hit the ground hard with an iron then that causes the arthritis to flair-up and spoil the rest of the round. That was up to about two and a half years ago when a friend introduced me to a glove called the "BIONIC" it was advertised on Amazon for £20 so I thought at that price why not give it a go. Since I have been using this glove I have never had a problem with my arthritis on a round a golf since no matter how hard I hit the ground or the size of the divot. They are very durable and as a person who goes to the course three times a week and I now its time to get a new glove .

I couldn`t agree more with Peter. I wouldn´t call myself a good golfer, my handicap used to be very low though. By chance, I had the privilege to be the starter on a tour event in 2015 and there was a fog break just the moment Bryson was supposed to tee up. He was still an amateur at that time and definitely one of the most lovely golfers on tour I have met. He gave me a 15 minute talk, would rather say a lecture, into his grips and he convinced me. He gave me an email address (grips were just about to be launched) to be able to order those grips which I did. Like most people who tried the grips I know, I rather pushed the ball to the right for a few rounds. Eventually, I was able to quieten my hands and adapt my core rotation so significantly, that my ball flight got more consistent and interestingly, even longer than before. I am using them now for eight years, would never use any other grips anymore. At least rather tall people with rather big hands should always give it a try in my opinion.

Interesting about the gripping in the palm versus the fingers. I started working on my grip 2 seasons ago and fully went away from gripping it in the palm. I don't feel like it changed a lot in my swing except that I was now more aware of how I was gripping it and it makes my setup a little more consistent. Now I have to try switching back and forth at the range and see about this "holding it off more" business. As for the grip size, I'm perfectly happy and comfortable with my standard-sized grips and don't suffer from any hand or wrist pain. I did for one season but it was something to do with something that completely changed in my swing overnight that had me hitting down hard on the ball and shanking, and I practiced on mats. Thankfully, that sorted itself out in a couple range sessions.

I just swapped my iron grips out recently from standard to +4 golf pride grips as I had one of my Volkey wedge and really liked it... I noticed a def improvement in confidence and consistent ball striking. They allow me not to have a death grip on the club as I do have quite large hands and felt that I was "hanging" on to the slimmer profile grip. Now my right hand can be more of a guide than holding on. I feel that the larger grip added a bit more swing weight to the irons allowing to hit more down on the ball and it also smoothed out my tempo and rhythm and actually swing a bit easier and smoother while still maintaining swing speed. Not tested with any sort of swing software but I've been playing golf for quite a long time and I really enjoy the change. I also have a larger +4 grip on my driver that I've had for years and I've loved how that has helped me swing more neutral.

Jumbo grip on my 8 iron snagged on the bag yesterday when I pulled it after striping a drive . I tried to catch it as it came down and the thin top line of the Miura MC-201 smashed my right index finger and drew blood. After letting my buds play their shots and getting bandaged up and wiping the blood off my jumbo grip, I parred the hole. Ended up shooting 9 over which is an excellent round for me. Switched to jumbo grips two years ago and that's the first time it's happened. Just be mindful and don't try to catch it if it snags.

Peter, having some arthritis in two of my fingers on the left hand so I have just put on two jumbo maxes in the size large which was recommended using their sizing guide online, regrettably there’s no golf store near me that that carries all these sizes, so that I could feel them in my hand first, I think that would be helpful. But anyway they do feel quite a bit bigger but I didn’t have any problem hitting the ball straight with either of them on my six iron or my driver but of course I still had to use my other clubs so I ended up with finger pain at the end and I’m not sure if it would be any better with larger grips or not? I'm using midsized grips. Have for years. I found with regular grips I tended to squeeze them too tight and it inhibited my release, resulting in a slice. Once I switched to midsize, I could relax my grip a bit and it helped me release the club better. Been hitting a draw ever since. However, I seem to still struggle with inconsistency with my driver so I recently order a single jumbomax ultra lite for my driver. Should have it in a couple of days. When I first started golfing the clubs would spin in my hands with standard size. I went to mid size and saw a huge improvement with control. Now the mid size fell tiny on my irons

I’ve played those exact grips for a few years now. I absolutely love them. The hardest part of playing them, is testing new clubs. The traditional grips feel like a toothpick.

I have never tried these grips but I may do it in the future. I have mid-sized grips right now and I have noticed that they feel miles better for me in terms of control and comfort. I had broken my ring and pinky knuckles on my right hand so when I would interlock my left index finger and right pinky, my hand would hurt really bad after a 9-hole round of golf. Now I can play 18-holes with relative comfort.

For myself with larger hands and decent swing speed I find myself a lot of the times gripping the club way too hard because it feels like the club is going to fly out of my hands, resulting in not much flexion in my wrists. I would love to try these out. I am sure it would be like a swing change and just feel weird at first but after repetition would feel normal.

They make golfing so much more comfortable. I'm like you I have large doppelganger fingers. Standard grips my palms wrap over the top of my fingernails. I switched to oversized grips a few years ago and just this season put the jumbo max grips on. I didn't have any issues adjusting to the size. But I now don't feel like I'm gripping so hard to get the same grip on the club. If that makes any sense.

Changed my game too because I used to get sore hands at the range from hitting off mats plus they stopped me hitting a hard draw with my strong grip position. Everybody gets a laugh out of them when they see them but I love them. I play off 6 from 10 last year.

I played these grips for 3 years or so and played very good with them. I switched irons and thought I would just stick with a regular oversized grip. I found myself spraying alot of shots and just didnt have alot of consistency hitting the clubs straight. I play to an under 5 handicap and WAS scratch. After trying several things changing my swing and holding club face closed on the backswing, on a whim, I put one of the old medium sized ultralite grips on my 9 iron. 1st round with the 9 iron got a hole in 1 on the fly, nothing but the bottom of the cup. Walked off the golf course and ordered a full set of ultralites to go on my PXG's!! Buy one grip and try it!!!

I had been using the midsize grips but haven’t been out in two years in which time I developed arthritis in my right hand ..not good for a left handed golfer some days I can’t close my fist. So I had a jumbo grips installed on my clubs and what a difference it makes. Not only did it not hurt my game it’s actually made it better. This might not be for everyone but if your experiencing pain in your hands while golfing you might want to give some jumbo grips a chance…✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

I first saw a set of jumbo grips at my local range and the bloke using them was happy for me to have a few hits. I thought they were a bit much but I do love my mid size grips... just got to fit them now to the rest of my set (I worked in a pro shop for six years as a teenager so I shouldn't be lazy when I know how!).

I come to golf late in life and could never understand why grips were so thin. So when I saw these a couple of years ago I fitted them on all my clubs. At first I was pushing them right but it didn’t take long to sort that. From the word go I never had any problems with my short game if anything touches around the green improved. The biggest plus for me is reduced grip pressure, what a revelation and relief, I no longer have sore hands after a round of golf makes holding my beer more enjoyable 😂 ⛳️ 🍺

I have very small hands. A few years back, I bought a secondhand driver with a midsize grip. I found it near impossible to close the face on my driver with it. I swore I would never use large grips because of that. I was looking for new irons, and the fitter turned me onto a used sad. The catch, they had midsize grips. I hit them pretty well though except the long irons. After a couple of months, I put standard grips on the long irons but kept mids for 6-PW and put them on my other wedges too. For me, that is a good balance, it has helped with my arthritis too.

I have this grip on my 4 hybrid that my dad handed down to me and I love the way it feels. Its also my favorite club in the bag cause I can consistently hit it decent unlike my irons ( which have jumbo grips but they still feel small to me). I don't know why its just something about them personally that I like

Years ago I accidentally bought thicker grips, maybe what people are calling midsized, after my older brother basically bullied me into getting them regripped, and quite enjoyed them. Its made me interested about what grips to get if I get my current clubs regripped instead/before replacing them. Id have to try a jumbomax grip before committing it to probably the driver, maybe wood(s) & hybrid. Irons and wedges I dont think Id like unless it was a medical necessity like how this stared for Pete.

I don’t play Jumbo Max but have used Winn jumbo grips for years. I can relax my grip through the swing and my hands aren’t sore after a round. Another plus is less shock to the hands if you hit a tree root. I may try Jumbo Max on a couple clubs to see if I like them. Thankfully, modern golf bags are more accommodating to jumbo grips than they used to be.

I am a full time flamenco musician and my hand muscle fibers have developed more in some areas and weaker in some, therefore normal grips feel horrible in my hands but when I’ve changed to jumbo grips oh dear lord it felt like heaven. I’m not sure if many of you would understand the reference but it’s like sanding with $50 Dewalt sander vs $800 Mirka sander it made a difference almost exactly like that for me. But again it’s a preference for hand and body type/size

I have arthritic hands so I switched to the jumbomax grips. Size small on the woods xs on everything else. There was an adjustment period but now I’m hitting the ball better than I have in a long time and no more pain. The flip side is I tried to hit a club with a standard midsize grip and it felt so wrong. All that said it’s golf what ever works best for you run with it. We live in a time where there is so much amazing equipment just play what works best for you and have fun. Cheers

Thicker grips absorb more vibrations. Same with graphite shafts. If you play enough golf something will start aching whether shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand.... Reducing vibrations will go a long way.

I have put jumbo grips on my Driver, 1 iron and 3 Iron (3 longest clubs in my bag) and it has had a positive impact. You do lose a bit of feel, but on off centred shots you don't get any pain which would have been a huge problem for me before. Also I haven't had anywhere near as many blisters on my hands as before. It gives me more confidence of transfering all my power into the club. (I then have midsize on the rest of my clubs.) I think having bigger hands also make a difference. I wear a mens large glove

I needed surgery for my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Prior to surgery I used Golf Pride Victory grips which were pretty much standard on many sets back in the day. My wrists would be sore after a round. That pain later moved down to my hands and affected my game. I then went up in grip size and used a half cord grip. Things drastically improved. I still needed and got the surgery, but my pain was much lessened when I used the larger grips. I'm getting back into golf after a long hiatus and I am seriously looking at larger grips. Larger grips 'quieted' my hands during the swing and at impact so much so that my I cut 5 strokes off my handicap (old handicap system) within a month of changing grips.

I’ve got the non-tapered version in M and L on a couple clubs and really like them. I think I’ll eventually get mediums on all my clubs but they are a bit spendy. I also with they were a touch tackier. Edit: I grew up a baseball player, so that may be some of why I like them.

I switched to the Jumbo Max about 6 weeks ago. I did it because I didn't have the grip strength to hold the regular grip securely in my hands in my backswing. The end of the club was moving in my hand causing a bit of a casting issue. The jumbo max fixed that issue. Not sure about finger/wrist pain but I do strike the ball better, especially with my 3 wood in the fairway.

I've been using the GripOne non-taper grips for a little over a year. I think they might be a bit too large for me. I hated how much taper the lower part of standard grips had which is why I switched. I tried midsize grips when I was in HS (8 years ago) and didn't quite enjoy them but I came across a few grips on display while waiting for my tee time and found that my opinion of some midsize and even oversized grips had changed. I suppose that's natural as they had enough taper to make my right hand feel more in control whereas with the GripOne I felt like I couldn't properly wrap my fingers around them. 6:45 describes it well. While I setup and feel okay, it's really at the top where I feel disconnected. Edit (10/12/23): I went to the range yesterday and decided to grip more in the palm of my right hand while keeping the left one the same and I noticed a HUGE difference. I never really could "Feel" the club nor felt like I had much control but now all of a sudden I could really feel it once I changed the grip a bit more. This could be due to an incorrect grip to begin with for my hand size. Looked up a golf article and a coach said "When gripping any club, use your entire hand! If the handle is too much in your palms, you’ll negate wrist hinge. Too much in your fingers, and, suddenly, you add unwanted tension." - Brady Riggs.

I use the Extra Small version of the Jumbo grips on my 'tee clubs' and mid-sized non-taper grip on the rest of the set. The extra small fits somewhere between a mid-size and the mosters Pete uses. I was usure of the Jumbo when I first put it on my driver but got to like it so much for the 'big dog' I put it on the 5 wood and it is still on both clubs. I like the slightly more 'spongey' feeling of the Jumbos that makes me feel I have a bteer 'hold' on the longer clubs.

I've only returned to golf after a 33 year hietus, I've now been playing for 6 months, but it took me 3 of those months to work out that standard grips were absolutely killing me! I bought a set of used clubs that just happened to have oversize jumbo grips on them, and it transformed my game. Coupled with Jack Nicklaus's grip method mentioned in Golf My Way, I couldn't go back! I'm now intrigued by these even larger ones...

I've been using big grips for almost 20 years. I injured my left thumb (right handed golfer) in high school which precluded me from being able to grip the club normally and release through impact. An older gentleman suggested I try a baseball grip on my left hand and then overlap with my right. That worked but the grip was just too small. I'm 6'4" (193 cm) and have really wide hands. After a few months of tinkering, I came up with cutting an old tire inner tube in long strips and then wrapping the grip like they used to do with leather. I go right overtop of the old grip so it's quite thick but I don't think much more than what Peter has. I think it may be time to switch to Peter's model since it's getting harder to find tubes.

I switched to the JumboMax Midsize grips which are much bigger than the Golf Pride midsize grips. I had no issues switching, I still hit the ball with a slight draw. I used to be be a tennis player and competed at the D1 level in college, so that might be one of the reasons why a bigger grip feels more comfortable.
