Yes it works on babies 8-33lbs, so you should be able to start wearing it almost right away. When they are really tiny I put their feet folded up underneath them, like in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHmTg2SVnsmjn9k Once they are about 10 lbs or more I'll put their legs down through the holes like I showed in this video. Hopefully that makes sense :)

Do you find the rings dig in? I really want to buy this but have concerns after reading reviews about them digging in and being painful

They can a little bit, but it seemed like when I would wear it it was pretty easy to readjust and move the rings a little if they were hurting.
