WILWOOD REAR DISC BRAKE INSTALL | 71 CHEVELLE | OLD SCHOOL FORD 9"

First project after getting it the Chevelle back is to start from the rear and move to the front. In this we convert the rear drums on the Ford 9" to rear Wilwood Disc Brakes. Bolt up yes, but not without some issues.

I don't know if you figured out yet, but the end play you described on the right axle is because you used the factory axle retainer bracket. The wilwood one has the step flange to put pressure on the outer bearing race, and will not be flush. You have the in and out movement because the bearings are not being held in tightly. This will have a negative effect while driving, i.e. leaking wheel seals and clunking with side loads. The car looks awesome, keep up the great work!

No C clips on a 9inch. I agree, use calipers to measure the stack of washers and a machine shop can mill the spacer to that thickness. Have the side that isnt exposed milled and you wont need to paint it. Stance looks perfect from the camera angle but your looking at in person. The channel you mentioned is Saabkyle04

I got the spacer milled down .080 and used my existing washers/shims. I took measurements prior to getting the spacer milled down so I knew exactly what I needed.

Had a few questions, I just picked up an old school Ford 9” rear end and going to have it shortened. What is the part number for the rear Wilwood brake kit you are using? Also are you using the original axles and differential and did you have to modify them? I’m really new to this upgrade and trying to get all the info I can. Your car looks amazing.

I cannot remember the part number for kit, but it’s a rear break kit for a BIG FORD 9”. Make sure you reference which one you need, cuz the flanges are different. Is why I capitalized the BIG FORD. I have Yukon 31 spline axles and Richmond Gears. No mods to axles from my understanding. It came with purchase of car. Hope that helps.
