​@@EddieCrayMarshmallowyeah it basically went like this, I was getting my morning coffee at Tim Hortons when out of the corner of my eye I saw two young lads trying to cut in line. An older lady hit the blonde one with her purse and said "no cutsies" after which the higher rated one climbed on the back of the blonde who in turn used the, now limp, legs of the higher rated one to sort of slap/push the older lady to the back of the line, all the while screaming from the top of their lungs things like "IS THIS THEORY?". Now I know the old lady was also in the wrong here, but anyway don't support these guys.

When i was a little kid, my teacher told me that GMs in chess can calculate a chess match like 10 moves ahead and i was so impressed... Now we live in an age where we can have them explain in real time as they play ... Its more impressive than it was when it was a mystery

Everyone talked as though gm’s were all prodigies who could calculate 20-30 moves ahead… which isn’t true. And thanks to KZbin and watching them think through their process, we see that it’s more like 5 moves if the position has multiple lines of equal value, and around 10-15 moves if it’s toward the endgame with fewer pieces and only one or two lines for both that makes sense. We’ve seen and heard lots of gms talk nowadays to know they are a highly specialized player and the top players are best at pattern recognition, recall, and creating similar motifs to the ones they know already. If you take a person of average intelligence but who has high determination and motivation, and start them learning chess between the ages of 5-8, get them to read, play, learn, and analyze chess everyday… then they would become a gm. The less innately intelligent, the more one needs determination and the motivation to persevere. So, if you’re a younger player who wants to be a gm, you can be. But it has to take centre stage over everything else… gl

If that was true than we'll be having a rain of GM's. The combination of an amazing memory, the ability to access it on command, the intelligence to know and prioritize which lines to calculate and then go deep is very rare IMO. Don't forget the "GM effect". Their moves look logical and obvious, and you understand why their decisions and it seems easy, but then you play alone and realize that even 1800 elo players are amazingly strong. So no, many people will try but you need to be born with the apptitude for it, sometimes hard work won't get you there, IMO.

I have been using this online and in OTB games with friends at work. Gives me great attacking chances and a simple plan to get to the position that I want. Getting a surprising amount of wins as black, though the setup is more difficult. This is the perfect opening for a pea brain 1100 like me. Thanks for this series, Aman!

I’m loving playing this opening. It works great at lower levels and you make the ideas behind the opening very clear! I run into issues when people push their E pawn and I can’t develop my knight to F3 though. Hoping something like that comes up in the series.

14:54. After stating that the black Qb6 move is "irrelevant," you then run out a black tactic that involves the said "irrelevant" Queen pinning the White King. This is a common error in chess engines who show "mistakes" that one move latter display the "error" as the culmination of a tactic.

The reason you don't get many endgames is because once the opening is completed, your GM skills kick in. They make mistakes you don't, and you capitalize. You see things in milliseconds I don't see at all, ever. Therefore, few endgames. BTW, whatever happened to the French playthrough you said was coming? Best wishes.

I've been learning chess the past year and only really like using the stonewall. I can't get out of 600 if I tried.

If you don’t mind being 600 that’s perfectly fine. If you want to go up in rating, try these things: 1. Play in longer time formats. It allows you to really calculate moves and makes it easier to remember them. 2. Learn to avoid the Stonewall if you simply can’t get an ideal structure. If after 1.d4 d5 2.e3 they play Bishop f5 preventing your Bishop from going d3 without being taken, it might be better to go c4 and Qb3 in the future. Key thing is that their early Bishop move leaves the b7 pawn a little weak and it often becomes a target. 3. Learn the attacking ideas in the Stonewall after the setup. For instance you might want to lift your rook to f3 or push your pawn to g4 g5, to force their Knight away from the defence of the h7 square. Sets up a nice greek gift. That’s just one example, the best way is to find an avid Stonewall player (Yaacov Notowitz) and look up how they play the Stonewall. You can really see what moves they run into and how they respond. 4. Try puzzles. It’s not for everyone, but if puzzles if for you I recommend ignoring the clock and just calculating until you find the right moves. Simply improves your calculation strength and you may recognize these patterns in your own games. This has gotten me above 1400, which isn’t anything to boast about but I’m happy with it.

For me my story begins in grade 8. I was at the grocery store in the produce section with my grandma when Eric threw two apples at my head. Plunking me with each and I was knocked flat onto the ground. He yelled out "how bout them apples?" as I was holding my head, I slowly staggered up and GM Aman busts out of the onion display with a bag full of oranges and thunderously smashes me in the midsection and as I'm laying there crying my eyes out I hear him whisper "how bout them oranges?". Don't support these guys.

If i play stonewall my opponents plays f5-puwn every time and block my position. In the opening my opponents has not blunders. But if i turn on videos by Aman I see that many people blandered in the start! not fair!

Nothing feels more disgusting then playing low rated players. You can see their little insectlike thoughts. One move ideas, and you can feel like they think you are same low as them. I feel like I'm touching a dirt or worse. So terrible:(((
