Looking at getting a winch for my rig (finally). This video is a great help in my decision and is saved to help with installation. Thank you for your work!

I enjoy your description of the products and how you use them. Nobody ever explained amber lights but for some reason everybody wanted them. I appreciate that. Hope there’s more to come in future videos.

Great video Ali. I really appreciate your content. I got a JT Rubicon in Sarge Green a few months ago, you’ve helped me get my truck dialed in. Order a VR EVO 10 yesterday, can’t wait to get it set up!

So I'm looking to get a little more info on the fairlead mounting plate license bracket you cut off. I too live in a state that doesn't require front plates. I installed a warn for a friends and they bought a separate fairlead plate without the license bracket. Which I was considering until seeing this video. So did you just tape it off and it it was a sawzall? I feel like that not only would take awhile but wouldn't make a clean cut even after sanding which it appears you may have done. Also what did you do after the cut to prevent rust if anything? Also did you paint the cutting edge afterwards? I literally may do this if the process is simple versus spending another $50 on a fairlead plate without the license holder. Warn should make an option for that version just assuming everyone is good with the license plate bracket

I’m not sure how I missed this comment. I just cut it, used a flap disc to smooth it out and then painted the entire bracket with three coats. Sorry for the late reply, but hopefully this helps somebody else out if they have the same question.

I agree. I was going to paint them, but I think I am going to wait and have them powder coated with some other parts I have.

Synthetic. Get synthetic line. That’s the biggest tip for getting a winch. Don’t get your arm cut off by a steel cable

Hello, your winch and light set up is sweet. Question, with the Mopar bumper are you using a tray and a mount kit or just the mount kit? I’m going to put this set up on my Jeep. Thank you. Dan 🇨🇦

Since I have the stock aux switch group, I just cut the harness they provided just before the relay. You'll have three wires. One is power to the main light, the other is for the running light, the last is the ground. You just need to to attach the ground to the body (you'll find a ground bolt next to the battery on the fender). The power wire to the main light I wired into the factory switch panel button 1 and the running light wire went to button 4. You can use heat-shrink butt connectors for a quick and easy connection. If you don't have the stock aux switch group, you'll just connect the power and ground to the battery and if you want to run the running light, you'll need to tap into a key-on power fuse or wire. Something like the heated seat (regardless if you have them, the fuse spot will be there).

Is disconnecting the fog light harness from the bumper a necessary step? 5:14 I’m waiting for my winch to [be] delivered and will go through this process so I’m trying to understand why you had to do that. Everything else is well explained, thank you.

No. Not really. But a good idea so you don’t accidentally pinch the wires when reinstalling the bumper.

You guys have any experience with the Badland winches from Harbor Freight? I read a lot of good about them, but a lot of folks just say, "You get what you pay for," and never even consider a budget friendly option.
@DrivingLine

I don't have any experience with them, so I can't weigh in. I've had good service out of Warn, Rough Country, and Rugged Ridge winches over the years.

You've mentioned how you like the the 5.77" backspacing more than once but it sounds like you want to change that, what wheels specs are you looking at now??

I just put a set of Fox 2.5 shocks on the Jeep, which places the remote reservoirs by the front bumper. So far, it clears for daily driving, but I have a feeling the tires might rub them when I wheel. If this is the case, I'm going to try my stock Xtreme Recon wheels. If those won't work, I'm going to look at a wheel with 5 inches of backspacing. Maybe a Trail Ready beadlock. Still unsure of the brand I want to go with.

Did you wire your negative to a body ground or direct to the battery?

The winch is wired directly to the battery. The light ground is attached to the body.

Kind of surprised you got the Chinese assembled Warn. Thought you'd be a Zeon guy. I run the evo 10s on my sarge green JLRU 2.0. On 37s as well bfg km3s because the trail grapplers were impossible to get. At least I have the 2nd best tire.

I’ve had a couple of Zeons on past Jeeps. It’s a great winch. I actually ordered this one just before Christmas. At that time, I couldn’t find any Zeons in stock. After researching a few others, I went with the VR EVO.
