We just purchased the same safe and we love it!! Don't hesitate to buy this safe, it is awesome. I love the modifications you did to yours so much that I have all the same exact parts on the way and plan to copy it to a "T". Great job and thank you so much for sharing! You saved me a boat load of time deciding how to dehumidify and light our safe!

Safe looks great. The one thing I would caution you on is that safes are not coated/protected on bottom. Since yours is in the garage typically a mat or something is placed underneath to keep the moisture from the porous concrete from causing rusting to the bottom of the safe. If you have something there or someone else noted it, my apologies.

Thanks for the tips. I completed my lighting, etc... pretty much exactly like you did. With my garage open and it raining outside, it was 51% humidity which is pretty acceptable. I was worried at first because humidity was high with the evadry and the dry rod, but after a few days, it was down to 45-51. I only put led's accross the top and the sides which made the wiring much much easier and it still provides plenty of lighting. I also purchased an Acu Rite Indoor Humidity Monitor from amazon.

Congrats on a really nice safe (Winchester just exudes Americana). BTW, I can personally testify to the advantageous effects of the Eva-Dry unit...I live in a very humid region of this Great Land and honestly these have allowed my valuables to remain in pristine condition (I swear by them).

There are four holes at the bottom of the safe you can use to bolt it to the floor. Depending on the safe you can remove the bottom shelf for access. Some have black plastic plugs on the bottom shelf you can remove to find the holes. You will have to mark the holes then move the safe out of the way and drill holes in the concrete. Most hardware stores sell safe anchoring kits. I would recommend using larger heavy duty washers instead.

Nice lighting. If I ever move my safe, I'm gonna look into adding power. I do fine without it, but I could see it being nice to have.

Joe, The hole was already in the back of the safe. The only thing you have to do is remove the plug in the back and drill through the fire board. Just a standard drill does the job. Then run a heavy gauge wiring through the back and connect up to a all in one electrical socket. Both heavy gauge wiring and socket outlet were purchased at Lowes. This is the box that is wired up.. *Update January 2022* We have moved almost 3 years ago and since the move… nothing has changed. Everything on the safe and the lighting is still working great. I did have to purchase a new EvaDry unit. The original one went out after about 7 years. The power is still working great and the lights perform like the day they were installed.
@IAMRUSTEDROOT3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the update. I was debating on which lights to get for my safe. My biggest worry was how long they do or don't last. 7+ years and yours are still working. That's pretty darn good. Personally, I almost bought the same safe, but ended up going with a Liberty Safe (after watching some pry test videos) with an old school mechanical lock. It's pretty much the same size and rating etc.

I have the same safe! Love it!!! Quite a bit better than the Canon's that are available. Like the lighting you have, I'm in the process of doing that also. Did not realize there was a hole in that bottom corner. Have to take points away for your wife doing the electrical though. She should have been baking you some cookies or holding the light for you. *UPDATE* 3/1/16 Since the last update, the actual internal lock did go bad. I did purchase the extended warranty on the lock when I first purchased the safe from Winchester. I called Winchester and sent email to file claim. They handled the claim like a champ. They contacted a locksmith and he called to schedule a time to come out. They showed up with all parts needed and replaced the lock no questions asked. Winchester paid locksmith directly and is back working properly.

**UPDATE** 7/24/15 Since installing the safe with everything in it, everything is still working perfectly to this point. I have not seen any surface rust on any of my guns. I also have a decent amount of ammo in there and no moisture problems with that either. No power issues (thanks to my wife for the electrical work) and no lighting issues. Everything is still working like it did the day it was installed including the safe.

The garage is inconvenient. Open floor plans show off your goods, so pick your most accessible ground floor bedroom and bolt it to your foundation. You don't want a garage intruder between you and your safe.

@granitesecurityproductsinc323711 жыл бұрын
While looking at the back of the safe, the hole is located on the lower right hand side approximately 6 inches from the bottom and 2 inches from the right. Please see a partial from a previous post below: "In regards to the hole on the back of the safe, the safe that was reviewed is a TS-22-11 model safe only found at Tractor Supply Company. While looking at the back of this safe you will notice on the lower right hand side of the safe a pre-drilled hold in the sheet metal. The hole is not finished through the fire board on the inside of the safe or the carpeting. You will need to first cut a hole in the carpeting on the inside of the safe before finishing the hole as you would not want to cause damage to the carpeting. Once you have that complete you can finish the hole from the back by puncturing the fire board by any means you choose. Some people prefer a hammer and screwdriver and some prefer to use their drill gun." Posted by: Joseph Woycheshin (joseph.woycheshin@winchestersafes.com)

You will find the hole on the back of the safe, drill thru from the back side into the inside thru that hole' to install electricity, just be sure the insulation is intact and no wiring is touching the metal on the safe where it enters thru the hole!

Is a key included in case the keypad fails or the battery dies?
@granitesecurityproductsinc323711 жыл бұрын
No, we used to manufacture a series of safes that included a "backup" key, however the safes that are being manufactured to date from Granite Security Products, Inc. do not have that functionality. Nevertheless, should your battery fail, simply replace the battery with a new Energizer or Duracell 9 volt Alkaline battery, DO NOT USE A LITHIUM BATTERY. You will have to wait about 5 minutes while your safe goes into a time penalty mode for removing the battery. After the 5 minute wait simply enter your existing 6 digit code and rotate the handle to open your safe. FYI: To clear the rumors, the keypad does NOT store your combination in its membrane. The code is stored in the lock unit which is on the inside of the door itself, unable to be tampered with by a burglar during an attack. The keypad to the safe is like a keyboard to a computer, break it or take it off and the computer still requires a password to be unlocked. sorry but the bolt thickness is 100% irrelevant with the modern safe bolt design. the bolts are attached at the very back and to a piece of angle iron. do this little test open the door engage the bolts and grab them with your bare hand and see how much movement you can get out of them. i found the single bolt at the top can almost totally and permanently be bent out of position. the safes out on the market today look and work nice but do not provide us the security we think they do. i know of only 1 safe company that i feel provides true security...
@770rope6 жыл бұрын
I would say that a bolted down and closed safe such as this is more than just a deterrent and provides a lot more security than not having one at all.

Well, I guess since you say it's not security, I should throw this away and leave my guns and other stuff just laying on my bed then right? I don't think this safe is the most secure safe by any means, but I would place my bet on it would definitely deter a common idiot that might possibly break into my house. Not everyone is versed on how well a safe is or isn't made.

Someone who practiced a little can smash that cheep combo key pad off with a hammer, slip a coat hanger in the big hole in the front under said key pad and be gone with all your guns in under 5 minutes. Waist of money.

Hahaha.. I moved after I made this video. Yeah, if I’m not home, yeah.. someone who knows what their doing may be able to get in it, but the safe is behind 2 locked doors in my house that are reinforced and Double locked. Not to mention that I’m a K9 law enforcement officer and if a perp can break in and through 2 reinforced doors, get past my 2 German Shepherds (1 retired and 1 current duty) and get past me (don’t kid yourself by thinking all my guns are in 1 place) and make off with my guns.. then that’s one bad SOB and they can have them. Funny, you say this safe is a waste of money, but you don’t have a clue of what it would take to even get to my safe, so you commenting is a waste of your time 🤷♂️
