Winchester Super-X Buck Shot

This is exactly what I wanted to know. I purchased these for home defense for a Maverick 88 but I haven't had time to hit the range (I live in the city, grew up country). You did a really great job with this video. On point with your words, and your aim. Clear and consise. I personally think these are great just by watching the non bias vid. If they don't fail to feed, and are consistent then these are perfect. I live in an apartment and have neighbors on either side, so I have Federal High Brass #4 Turkey load at the moment, as I worry about overpenetration. But if things go south and I need spread with penetration (giggity) these will do the trick. Thanks!

I also have a Maverick88 with an 18.5" barrel.. and haven't been able to hit the range either.. I have purchased rescently 5rnds of Rio #4-buckshot. Because I still live in a neighborhood, but it's in WNC so I still live in a spread out, wooded area.. I have some 3" Magnum #4steel birdshot Turkey loads to, and have no doubt that at 15-20 yards... They will f*#ck up whatever I need to fire them at. however I've managed to wrangle up 30 1oz slugs, several different brands of 00-buckshot, 5rnds of #4buck, and a assload of heavy #5 or #4 Birdshot... So I feel that I have a descent store of ammunition for my 12g atm.. but I still want to accumulate more 00-buck and slugs, and especially more #4buck... Since I am only looking at using the shotgun with shot out to about 30 yards or so... Slugs maybe to 100y if necessary. But I doubt it will come to that. I wish you the best man. Rock on

@@VanXHydrA props on finding all that ammo! 12 gauge ammo has barely been hit with this ammo drought like the rest of the calibers. I stocked up since I made that post two years ago. (Not a crazy amount. Ammo hoarders and gun hoarders drive me nuts. They drive up the price and lower the availability) Best of luck to you my friend. @@banditpsycho3573 holy cow I never saw your reply and I apologize. I have had only one issue with the Mossburg Maverick, and that was when I ran 25 Super cheap “Field and Stream” shells through it. Was super tough to cycle, and the dirtiest ammo I have ever shot. Other than that, nothing so far! Have a great weekend

I would think so in a single or double shotgun made before 1930. I don’t feel that as much in a steel framed pump gun. The extra weight helps. Thanks for watching.

I baught some today. Them damn coyotes are getting way to close to the house. I smoked ones ass with # 4 Bird shot lastnight but he didn't fall over he just spend around and yellped. So tonight I'll be more prepared with some 00 buck. My buddy lives a mile down a gravel road and 4 nights ago his little dog went missing. Anyway I'm talking to much. Loads patterned fine. Average for a non choked barrel is 1" of spread for every yard...

I was at a Walmart here in WNC a week and a half ago, and they had 4-5rnd boxes of this.. when j had the man price check them, he seemed confused... They were $0.99 each. 5-rnds of 00buck for $1... During the Covid-19/Pandemic/Ammo shortage insanity ... I bought 3 of them, and left him 1 box... Because I could tell he was a lil bummed. So I asked the older gentleman if he had a 12g and needed some buckshot? He said yes and I left a box for him.

They do use a pellet buffer in this load that helps protect the pellets while moving down the barrel.

Try federal 00 flite control in the open bore shotgun for a tighter spread . usually them winchester buckshots you shooting do better with a full or xtra full choke

To me, this is doing what buckshot is supposed to do. If you want a super-tight pattern at those distances why not just use slugs...

Still doesn't hold a candle to 3" #1 Buckshot. 24 .30 cal vs 9 .33 cal.... I think Il go the harder recoiling way

What choke did you use?

It seems he used cylinder bore (no choke), because he didn't say -- which would explain why it spread so much at anything beyond about 10 yards. For hunting, he would need a choke tube or some kinda flight control ammo. For self-defense inside the home, he should be fine with that combination of gun and ammo, IMO.

Possibly, longer barrel gets you closer to the target. I know that sounds kind of dumb, but that is kind of how it works. Don’t know how much tighter though. Everyone’s shotgun patterns different, my videos are a jumping off point. Just to show a series of data points, to show with my specific set up what’s possible. Everyone should pattern there shotgun to see how there setup is going to perform. It’s easy, and fun todo. I highly recommend it, doing so will answer all your questions about your set up. Good luck. 357Franknitty These are full power as far as I know. There are a number of reduced recoil options out there. I would try one of them, if that’s what your going for, before I use these. Thanks for watching.
