Thanks for your great review. I'm a Texas resident so I'm not restricted to straight walled cartridges. That said, I'm a fan of the 350 Legend. The XPR with a walnut stock is a beautiful rifle!
@davidfriesen95123 жыл бұрын
Totally my dream rifle. Wooden stock!!!! I personally wish it could be chambered in .35 Remington. I lament that the 35 Remington is only ever chambered in leverguns.

Pawn shops normally have all kinds of guns you can buy cheap then have the rifle barreled in 35 rem. The next best is the 358 win that also is done in the AR 10
@shronut.8402 ай бұрын
You could get one in 30-06 and get it rebarreled to 35 whelen. That’s about all of the luck you’ll get.

I retired my grandpa's ithaca 12 gauge in 2019 replacing it with a 450 bushmaster and I sold it 2 months ago for a 350 legend winchester xpr. I absolutely love the 350

I am coming to this review late, but thanks for the info. Good news! Winchester has announced limited XPR models in left hand! It will make a good woods rifle at a reasonable price point.

Question, why does everyone say being able to cycle the bolt on safe is an improvement? The model 70 3 position safety already had that feature, the middle position. Safe and bolt unlocked. All the way back was bolt locked.
@scotteger6271 Жыл бұрын
I believe it’s how it is executed on this particular rifle. There is a very simple two position safety, on or off, nothing to get confused with what of the 3 positions am I in, while engaging game. Then there is a bolt open button, to allow the bolt to be open on safe. Nothing against the Model 70 safety, but this style of safety can be more intuitive for shooters.
@joshualake4882 Жыл бұрын
Also because go research how many rifles actually use a 3 position safety. Very rare

From what little research I have done, 250 tops. But more like 150. I would guess you ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers. :)

I will second what Mike said 👍
@minerblue96413 жыл бұрын
I would say 150 to 175 yards only. Due to the arched trajectory of the bullet. Once you shoot past the point where the bullets trajectory doesn't resemble a straight horizontal line. Hits become iffy because the bullet is dropping so fast. A close look at the ballistic tables will confirm this.

I also live in Ohio. I am looking for a caliber to start my daughter hunting. As far as recoil, would you suggest this caliber for a small framed child? I’m also looking for a quality rifle she can use for life if she chooses to continue hunting.
@blackie1of43 жыл бұрын
The caliber is near perfect for small frame shooters. It is pleasant to shoot for me as well. Look... a deer is dead inside 200 yards in just about any hunting caliber out there... why get kicked around at the range and in the field!? Doesn't make game more deader ;) I actually pick one up for myself in January... It points fast it's short and recoil is pleasant and surprisingly soft. I tried all ammo available to date and mine likes the 180 grain Federal and the 180 grain Winchester. Hopefully this helps you out... and she'll enjoy it as much as you :)

Keep in mind, the .350 shoots .355 bullets and I believe Ohio requires .357 or larger, so this caliber would not be legal. I think I'm right but you might want to double check.

I have heard that the ammo is expensive, any comments on that topic.
@KFed0163 жыл бұрын
The factory ammo( before the pandemic) was between $2-$2.50 per round. This versus $3-4 a round for 450 bushmaster or $4.50 for 444. The hand gun rounds would definitely be cheaper but don't preform as well. If you reload like I do they could be cheaper than $0.50 a round depending on which components you use. All of these figures are from pre covid so the costs make have changed. Personally I've found the hornady 170g sp performs best in my gun but YMMV.

@@KFed016 Guess I'll still use my Rem 11-87 or my Ruger bolt K77/44.
@scotteger6271 Жыл бұрын
I’m going to quote prices because you asked but realize these can change…I picked up a 350 Legend and got a couple of types of ammo. The 20 round box of Winchester 145gr FMJ’s were approximately $16, so about $0.80/round. I saw Browning makes 124gr FMJ’s and they were approximately $18/box of 20, so almost $0.90/round. As for hunting ammo I got the Winchester deer season XP rounds and they were approximately $33/box of 20, so $1.65/round. The most expensive ammo I saw for 350 Legend was the Winchester Copper Impact, which was like $48/box…but monolithic copper rounds are always expensive, no matter what brand/caliber. Even still, that’s only $2.40/round, so definitely not an expensive option if you want to practice.

I don't believe this one will disappear because a lot of states allow it to be used in shotgun counties. It shoots flatter than a 12 gauge slug and has 1/4 of the recoil.

It was purpose built for states that allow straight wall cartridges with a minimal caliber restriction. It’s being chambered in very popular and affordable rifles and ammo is being made by several major manufacturers. I feel like it’s probably going to be around for a while.
