Good video overall. I suggest including more detail on what is going on with the winch kit. Set up and the safety chain doohickey for re-positioning and setting up another pull.

Pretty sure it was Amazon. The link below shows U.S. dollars which is now about AU$90. www.amazon.com/Hi-Lift-Jack-ORK-Off-Road-Kit/dp/B00042KQ58/ref=pd_day0_hl_263_3/133-5346761-1530646?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00042KQ58&pd_rd_r=7ee211c1-37b5-4eeb-877b-bb1086028195&pd_rd_w=Z2Uuo&pd_rd_wg=PfeDY&pf_rd_p=ad07871c-e646-4161-82c7-5ed0d4c85b07&pf_rd_r=Y5WMG696E824MMVV8W6A&psc=1&refRID=Y5WMG696E824MMVV8W6A

Great video mate, where did you source the JackMate and Drag Chain from? They seem quite cheap compared to the quotes i'm getting...

Google is your friend! Black Rat have 5 metres of 8mm chain for $60 (8000kg), Hercules have 5 metres of 8mm chain for $64 (4200kg), 4WD SupaCentre has the same for $37. Amazon has JackMates for $57 which I think is U.S. so that’s $79 Australian. I bought my drag chain from TJM Lismore for $93 and a JackMate from Lismore 4by4 Accessories for $85.

Not trying to be picky mate but can you use 8mm chain? The clevis hooks in my hi lift winching kit are 3/8. So you would have to use 3/8 chain wouldn't you? Great video though.

I'm trying to figure out what keeps your jack in a straight line (e.g. no angle between the jack and the direction of pull). I have seen other demonstrations, such as /watch?v=1YtvC2g3GUo , that have the same setup *but* an angle between the jack body and the direction of pull. The only difference I can find is that your JackMate's *anchor attachment* point is inline with the hi-lift *foot*, where other examples anchor directly to the jack body itself, and hence to a point inline with the jack *body*. Is it this slight difference -- perhaps 2 inches -- in axis that accounts for the difference in jack body angle relative to the direction of pull?
@barefootmedia6486 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher, I originally had this setup without the JackMate and I wasn't at all happy with the way that, when under load, the body of the jack itself was on a different angle to the direction of pull. So yes, it's the JackMate shackle/anchor attachment point being in line with the lifting foot of the jack that keeps everything in a straight line. It's been a while since I've used the gear without a JackMate but if I remember correctly, the angle of the jack body gets more and more extreme the higher the lifting foot progresses/climbs up the body. And if I'm not mistaken, the more extreme the angle, the more friction there would be between the jacking mechanism and the body of the jack. Not ideal and almost certainly not how the jack was designed to function. I'm happy to be corrected 😁

I paid $299 for my 13k winch, about $300 for my winch bumper, and $200 for the battery. Well under $1000 for equipment that has been used daily for 2 years with no problems. Worth a couple hundred to not be standing over the equipment if it fails. Far more practical.

Sounds like you've bought well. What brand of winch?

@@blueangel12037 Primarily an off-road recovery business on the ocean beaches. Everything from cars stuck in the ocean to airplanes in the sand on the beach runway. A lot of construction in town, so a lot of equipment gets stuck in the sand lots. Always someone stuck in the drainage ditches along the city streets. Occasional trips up in the woods or to the rivers to recover vehicles. Then we do all of the other stuff like jump starts and lockouts. Yesterday we did an electric window repair on the beach so they could drive home dry. Do quite a few recoveries of vehicles that other people destroy trying to "help" others too.
