I still have 30 chapters left, but I am so satisfied with the read so far. It's so dense, so tense, and cathartic to finally have answers. I really want a second pass at WAT cause I went through it at ludicrous speed so I wouldn't get spoiled accidentally. Overall I was very pleased with the feeling of an "ending". I still have questions, but I'm not feeling like the next 10 years are going to be torture. Plus I think we will get some glimpses into roshar within Ghostbloods and other non-stormlight works. I was surprised at the level of spoilers we got from Sunlit Man....I wouldn't recommend someone read it until after WAT.

I've just finished the book and am left with an odd mix of satisfaction and disappointment. The lessons seems to be that everybody is just a person, including our heroes and our villains and the author Brandon Sanderson himself. We've had 4 years of theory crafting which has been fun but I've noticed that the longer the break time went on the crazier and more elaborate the theories got. I might have enjoyed the book more if I had gone in straight from RoW. Oh well, I still enjoyed the ride and it is unfair to have too high expectations of the author / any one book. Too high expectations ruin your experience.

Up to chapter 20 at the moment. When I first started this book I felt like I came home. That was until Adolin and Shalan were so very prevalent. For me Brandon really needs to ease up a little on the romance. The only couple I like are Navarni and Dalinar. With all the off world stuff I hope it doesn't make me long for the earlier books too much. I don't mind it but hope that it isn't over done. I know Brandon is known for his dealing with mental issues and he does it pretty well I think, but again I hope it doesn't over shadow everything else. I am nervous but hopeful that this book will turn out well.

@MeMySkirtandI It was one of my favorite ones, cause if you read through each book Kaladin has many scenes specifically referencing damnation. It for me was either Kal being a herald or becoming Odium. Still a possibility on the latter, just not as likely after bringing in Mishram.

Just finished and overall I think it was a fantastic conclusion for our first half. I’m beyond excited for whatever projects we get next. It’s just that my biggest gripe, which is hardly even Sanderson’s fault because I do think he handled it well, is that much of the spiritual realm plot felt like the later seasons of a tv show that’s been running for too long. I’m reminded of things like Lost or any number of CW shows where to avoid retreading character development for the main characters, the show writers would just throw in flashbacks to characters that are only tangentially relevant to the main plot to show why they’ve actually been important to the main characters’ backstory the whole time. I recognize that’s not really what we got, but I guess that era of television has just irreversibly messed up my brain 😅
@MeMySkirtandI3 күн бұрын
See I generally avoid long plot TV shows, and have no problem with dropping them long before the flashback episodes. So that comparison never crossed my mind. I've actually struggled with comparisons for them, and greatly appreciate this point of reference!

I loved the book as a whole, but I really didn’t like the Jasnah storyline at all. I felt like there were many, many logical holes in the way that story played out. Which is hard to accept for a character who is made out to be an avatar of logic.
@MeMySkirtandIКүн бұрын
At best, I see those logical inconsistencies as being the point. It seems that T was pushing her to confront her own logical inconsistencies (all humans have them) and Jasnah on an emotional level could not. Which in itself is illogical. I've been calling her out on her hypocrisy for books now, so it was sort of vindication. But I'm still struggling to see how in this sterile self-revelation convinced Fen to join the enemy. That's the leap that maybe Fen's passion for honesty accounts for. But its a leap.
@GardenGaymerКүн бұрын
@ maybe that’s a better frame for it. I wasn’t I guess bothered by the logical holes as much as that they worked on Fen lol. Tho I am wondering, and as vague as I can be to be spoiler free, with the way Dalinar and odiums story go, could any agreements made by Fen and Odium be undone since he/it is not entirely the same as before they made their agreements

Over all I very much enjoyed the book. Still I am left disappointed with many points that have been passed by too hastily will dragging on at the same time. I think my problem is with the books the structure. While the others where several (hehe) separate books in sequence, each with their own build-up climax, change and next build-up. This one was just one single every long book. When the same characters had been doing the same thing for the last 48 hours in real time, I couldn't not help but think, get on with it already.
