That’s all good, but as a hunter, how do you judge wind on a first shot? Sometimes you only get one shot, winter, no mirage. No follow up shot?

This video is kind of old now. I’ve learned much through experience and just better ways of doing it. There are more recent vids on this subject here on the channel. What’s the farthest shot you’re willing to take on a deer or whatever?

Mirage is always visible if you've got a good scope and know how to use it. Need pretty high magnification but here's how it works - focus on target, back focus off about a third of the distance. Your target will be blurry but focus your attention on it anyway. You'll be able to see mirage even in dead calm winter, it'll be subtle. But it's there. As for first shot wind calls, that's tricky. You need mirage. You need to know, and I mean KNOW your rifle and load. You need to look at all the trees and grass and all that between you and the target. Look at the land. Consider how water would flow across the landscape if it came from the direction the wind is coming from. That'll help you figure out the swirls and fishtails and direction changes. Understanding all of that...and using a ballistic calculator with trued data...you might get a first shot impact. But you'll probably be close enough to correct for a quick follow up.

" I use the Mirage". Ok great but the new shooters need to know how to read mirage. From the spotting or rifle scope. Thanks

Matthew, I don't disagree with you. I'm planning on doing a more in depth tutorial video on reading mirage specifically. The issue is how to video the mirage in a useful way. I've got some ideas and I'll be putting that video out as soon as I can. Thanks for your comment!

Why do people put music like this in background
@PrecisionRifleNetwork4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Hudelson it’s professional. Check out just about every channel with skilled videographers and you’ll find background music. This is one of my early videos so it’s probably too loud, but I’ve learned a ton.
