Wind River had one of the coolest atmospheres I've seen in a film. Pairing the quiet serenity of the mountains with the disturbing violence that unfolds in the story pairs perfectly with its lesson on the mountain's hidden dangers. The only film that came close to this atmosphere was No Country for Old Men, but personally, this movie was a lot more engaging.

exactly. Its a great movie. Personally, I find Wind River more interesting than NCFOM. It feels fuller, more character dynamics, heartfelt dialogues, emotional scenes, his friendship with Martin, and the message of learning how to accept the pain. Sure, no country for old men have its own message too, but overall it only makes you feel more depressed because it demolishes all your hopes, it focuses more on the negative part of things, which isnt necessarily bad, but personally i dont watch movies to feel worse

Honestly, considering how calm he is about killing and condemning men to death, and how he had Nat's story figured out before basically everyone else, it's likely this isn't the first time he has had to do such a thing. More than likely, Pete is just another unfortunate repeat of history. Renner sells how painful it is, regardless, but there's a seething rage underneath, that really makes me feel like he's buried another piece of shit like Pete under the snow.

You can always tell which ones are great because you don’t immediately recognize them in their different roles. He’s a Livestock Agent on Yellowstone, and Cookie in 1883 and great in every role.

This movie haunted me in ways that few have since. Such powerful performances from Jeremy Renner and Gil Bermingham. The dialogue between them weighed heavy on my heart, listening to two fathers sharing their grief and being forced to endure the worst pain that can befall a parent. It crushed me. But to simply praise the film for its cinematography or performances would be a disservice to the message it delivers: that this is a grim reality for parents, young women, human beings, throughout reservation lands in North America.

i love how the criminal bastard says, "the snow. the silence!". it beautifully illustrates how the harshness of the land played a role in the deaths. something the indian band has dealt with and learned to live with for 200 years. his being an outsider is what killed all of them. think about that when you think of the closed communities of reservations, etc.

I watched this movie by dvd, while being deep in the atacama desert where my family comes from, hard place to live, hard people survives it. I wasnt prepared, and had no expectations for the movie, it was one of the greatest cinematic experiences, everything alligned for it, Renner and his silent acting, plus all of the supporting actors kicking it up a notch, it was awesome.

All the acting in all the scenes was incredible. Great performances from Renner and Olsen along with a talented group of side roles stepping up for strong support. I've never bothered to check his real name but even the guy playing the rapist did fine acting himself. From the actual deed to the bits and pieces that show what a cowardly, vile, and self centered waste of oxygen his is took up very little of the actual movie yet still made you disgusted by him. They portrayed him as most rapists and abusers actually are: PATHETIC. The exact opposite of the boyfriend who fought a group of guys with everything he had just to give her a chance to get away. From the posts I've read it seems everyone sees how powerful a good story can be if you have all the right elements. This film does that and so much more. Compared to most films this one did not have a lot of dialogue. But when every line is delivered correctly it does more than a paragraph of talking would. Lastly, I consider the setting itself, a cold unforgiving and oppressive land, as having a major role that affects everyone. The kind that makes some stronger and breaks others. And what happens when those opposites come to conflict.

Saw the movie again yesterday. The seventh anniversary of its premiere was yesterday. I almost never fully appreciated the film before. But it's such a beautiful story about pain, family, life, accepting and dealing with the harder things it brings. About solitude and loneliness. And acting is so good, especially Renner. Greatest ending a movie could have like this That snow and that silence are the only things that haven't been taken from them .......that's something no one will ever understand

Taylor Sheridan is an exceptionally talented man. His screenplays for Sicario and Hell or High Water won awards and his direction and story of Wind River is superb. There are many moments of profound dramatic acting here. When the father opens the door, sees his friend and his face crumbles in pain. Renner's declaration, " That's a warrior. " The father telling Renner, " If you find out who did this, I don't care WHO it is. You understand me? " Renner replies, " Right where they stand. " Excellent film!

This was filmed on a nice warm blue bird day in the late spring. Had this been winter we would have seen how devastating mountain weather can be on the human body. Great movie.

I had seen this movie a while back, before later discovering and binging on the Yellowstone series. Seeing this review of Wind River, I now recognize two of the actors portraying Indian characters that also ended up in Yellowstone, notably Kelsey Asbille, Gil Birmingham.Taylor Sheridan wrote the screenplay for Wind River and then became the showrunner for Yellowstone
