Those appear to be some right fine wooden blades Mr. Buckett! You lads on the West Coast of Ireland are truly blessed with good wind.

Great work Ian . The belt drive is working out fine. I want to see it in strong winds with the blades glassed ,next show. Some good furling shots in gusty wind would be cool too. Not much noise either.

Have you checked out the building plans of Hugh Piggott, or Otherpower? It's worthwhile taking a look at. Went to a course held by Hugh. Learned very much. Enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting.

Please don't think I'm being critical. I'm visiting these alternative energy You Tube videos to learn a thing or two from people like you who have done the research. I wish I had the money to build my own. I really do.

Ian your blades should have continued down closer to the hub. More blade equals more power. Like to see you work on that bladeset next.

thanks,there are a few small things to iron out but i was pleased with the first blade test the fly wheel hub seems to work well and very good low accoustics no point taking all that energy from the wind and turning it into sound.LOL.thanks again for your positive comment means alot to me.

Thank you kind Sir.Yes the higher the better wind becomes turbulent ? closer to the ground near trees buildings etc. Called dirty wind. look at the effect when flying a kyte. We also have 10 miles of usable wind above our heads. Thanks for the sub.

Thats a nice looking turbine. I subscribed to your channel. I'm not being a critic but do you mind if I ask a question? I always thought that the centerline of the shaft had to be offset to the side of the tower, for the furling to really work. Good build though, and very informative. Good job!

Yes wind turbine build part 4 was just at a low basic mock up stage.I have moved and improved the turbine alot since this video (all part of the fun) Please explain "motored above tip speed" not sure what you mean. Hope to show power out put asap. Dont forget to subsribe, you could miss it. Thanks for your comment.

yes the fibre glass casing will protect it,It will also have a nose cone.your kind of seeing naked at the moment should look printy cool when finished but it has to work first.i would like to see a consistant 1000w in 24v in a 15 to 20 mph wind. could do more?

hello ian,,really nice job on those blades. I want to try and make a set up similar to yours. just need to research how the blades are done. I have seen a few videos, just really need to take my time with the layout. I built a VAWT and I will gear that one up soon. still in test phase. great job on the build again!!!

Thanks I used Hugh Piggots wind turbine recipe book has some great layouts for blades. You can buy it online for approx. 30.00 euro/Dollars. Its kind of the bible for DIY wind turbines.

Good question? No i have been playing around with all sorts of furling designs for a long time.You can place the furling tail where you want. Dont be afraid to experiment and improve old designs.

I like the direction you are going friend-will the shroud protect the belt from ice, etc. when it is all put together? How many amps/watts are you expecting to get from this new set-up?

Hi Ian, i think Chris Olsen said 80 or 90% of the power is made by the outside half of the blade length.what is the rotor diameter/ swept area & how are you going to tension the drive belt ? Thanks for sharing your videos
@belgrademachine
@belgrademachine 12 жыл бұрын
That looks very good .. I especially like that the hub allows wind flow. How will you adjust belt tension? On another note I enjoy seeing the green rolling hills in the background. Its always fun to see the far away places in peoples videos even though that’s just background. Again, great turbine!

Ronel Calamba Thanks, the blades are made from Red deal wood. Not the best wood to use for wind turbine blades but I covered them in a plain weave fiberglass cloth.

You know , if that van was parked somewhere else far from the turbine, the blades would be getting solid wind instead of turbulence as appears to be he case.

this wind turbine looks very good do you know how many rpm it spins at because i was thinking about building one but i was worried that a turbine i build would literally throw blades at high rpms
@ian57812

Dean Walcott Yes with out the furling tail design the blades would over speed in high winds.

Hello: What is your Blade pitch? Everything looks good to me except your Blade pitch. I find that an 18° pitch angle works great. With this angle, I know that your blades would spend around like crazy in low winds. Please see my small blades on KZbin, you can find it under Mini wind turbine 4a. This is my small test turbine for my larger wind turbine. I wish I could show you my larger Wind turbine but, I cannot at this time because it has something on it that is going through the patent prosecess.
