I have an old Bergey 1500. Six months after I bought it the company discontinued the model and then it was struck by lightning. However, I like your channel and good info. Thank you

Did the lightning destroy it? I thought they were ground?

That front cap or dust cover you can open a hole to put a fitting to regrease the bearings.

I seem to have trouble trying to leave a comment here. I will try again. Can you tell me what the wind speed range was when you were showing the voltage and wattage output. I am in the market for a wind turbine and I am looking at many different kinds. Thanks for posting your videos.

@gaseunhieght I don't have exact windspeed data, but if I had to guess, I'd say it produces 500 watts in a 15 to 18 mph wind, and peaks out at 1800 watts (!) in winds above 28 mph. This turbine size is a bit larger than most "small" wind turbines: 8 ft. dia. vs 3 or 4 ft. In fact sometimes I wish mine was smaller because in winter storm winds it puts out so much power, I have to dump the excess into a dummy load (hot water tank). But that's my specific needs, I live alone with small electrical demands. So other smaller turbines out there, with about 500 watts peak power output, would be fine in my case, as I only need the wind power in winter, when the sun isn't shining (solar pv power), but the wind is blowing in a storm (this turbine never shuts off, but does govern its speed by "side-facing" above 28 mph). I hope this helps you decide.

Very informative. Thank You. Many people think, it is windy where they live, but in reality, it is not windy enough to cost-justify a wind turbine. Everyone must do their homework, for their location. If you are off-grid, then Solar and Wind make a very good combination to keep those batteries 100% charged. Do you have an MPPT WIND Controller attached? Did you select 48 Volts, for the long distance? Was it just the paint that was cracked or was the fiberglass housing cracked too? Is there any electronics inside the nacelle, or just the alternator? Southwest Wind Power put electronics inside the nacelle = bad idea. If that Wind turbine could average 500 watts, all day, every day, for 20 years then it would be equivalent to the cost of Grid Electricity per kWhr. But I doubt that actually happens, since that is 360 kWhr / month. I am guessing it generates about 50 - 60 kWhr / month, which makes it 5 TIMES more expensive than Grid Electricity. Off-grid electricity is not cheap

I bet the bearing grease was cooked off during the fire 👍👍🇺🇸

There should have been a grease alimite put in so u can grease regular

interesting . Its noisy thou I thought it would be quieter.

Yes, noisy when near to it, and I used shotgun microphone for this audio, to show all sound components (whine/tone of turbine producing power is there too -- underneath). But when listening further away, say at least several hundred feet, and inside a home/shelter, the sound blends in with the actual wind sound passing by the home. In really high wind/gales, the turbine's sound is almost lost in the wind roaring by... some folks do find it annoying, others think of it as almost "music", knowing it is charging up the home's battery bank.

Mine just makes a light whoushing sound so far when I turned it on for a couple o mins. to check it out . I still have to finish wiring into house to leave it on and check power output thou .

10 years is way too long. It should get a yearly overhaul.
