In this video we cover the two wind turbines we bought, un-box them and review the parts and plans around getting them installed.
We now have everything we need to install these, so I'm hoping our next trip up we will start on the installation of one or both Wind Turbines and get them going!
Here's the links to the turbines we are testing:

- NINILADY 600w Vertical Wind Generator - k7s.co/2ZzD9UV
The PV Combiner Box mentioned in this video is:

Looking forward to an update on these turbines. My experience so far is not good, I'm still in the process of trying to get my money back. Very curious if the ones that you got are any better. The one I ordered was a 48V VAWT claiming 2Kw, but it couldn't even charge a 12V battery and the generator looks the same as yours. Looking forward to some updates.

Which one did you get? The Pikasola or the NiniLady? The PIkasola is certainly not as well built, but I haven't gotten either of this up yet. I did get all the parts I need to do the pole mount for the Vertical NiniLady, so I think I have everything to get that one going soon.

Hey David, thanks for watching, and commenting! We had to change our priority order on things once we had the opportunity to build the new building, so I'm in the process of moving the Solar system over to that building. Once that's done, I will get back to the Wind Turbine project. We are close on the Solar side, probably another couple weekends of work to get it up and running. I'll try to put an update in the next video on the wind turbine stuff. Thanks!

Your still going to need two mppt apt controllers. The two small converters are to change ac to dc. You will still need a controller to start and stop and maybe divert XS Energy like to heating elements or to a hot water tank the way you utilize all energy instead of wasting it. You could simply hook up the diversion to a small heater for your shipping container I hope this information helps you I just don't want to overload your batteries and burned them out

Hi, I installed a vertical wind turbine which is 24v and 3KW. But it is generating a very low voltage below 7V and it can't charge battery. The turbine is 30 meter far from the controller. Can it be a cable issue ? What cable size is required to connect turbine and controller ?
@SeamrógCreek
@SeamrógCreek Жыл бұрын
The voltage generated will depend a lot on the speed the turbine is spinning. At its optimal speed if its only generating 7V its might have an issue with the generator. Have you measured the voltage directly at the turbine when its running? That will tell you if you wiring is the issue or if the problem is before that. To determine wire size it will depend on your configuration, and if you are using an MPPT, etc. Here's an article I used awhile back to understand the math for it, maybe that will help: forum.solar-electric.com/discussion/17404/3-phase-wind-turbine-wire-sizing Also the manufacturer or your Turbine should have a recommended wire sizing chart for the Turbine model you purchased.

Unfortunately, not yet. We had a rough year last year, so we didn't get to focus on some projects we intended too in the late summer/early fall. This is high on my list, especially since we could have used the power augmentation to the system in Late December when we the weather was the worst. I fully intend to get back to this part this spring, and get at least one of these turbines online. I do think I'm going to get a higher end Charge controller then what came with it. I'm looking at these at the moment, but have not decided. www.hyenergy.com.cn/a/English/Off_grid_controller/20150902/418.html Let me know if you are doing something different or get to it before I do!

I think the math on the turbines is not in your favour my friend. 5Kw being charged by those turbines will take a LONG time and a high wind. 5,000/100= 50 hrs. Assuming you only have 100w parasitic draw by the controller/inverter/wire and manage 200w/hr/day from both turbines combined; on a windy month. We'll soon see. Check out "Toys for Watts" channel if you haven't already. If you decide to reinvest in wind, check out HenryD and a FD4 (4m rotor) with controller. I think I'd make two dumploads (one each) and put them on tilt-able towers. The noise from them in the metal shipping container may make life less bearable inside if you attach them directly to the side. Braking long term is not good for the generator (it's magnetism that causes the braking), but tilting them down without a dumploaded brake in a high wind may damage them (braking at 90Kms/hr is a lot of heat for a second). I don't think you need more solar, but definitely more and better turbine power. These turbines without a dumpload like to catch on fire from what I see on youtube and via a buddy that almost burnt his cabin with one. We have 20Kw of storage, 7800w solar and an FD4 in one of the windy-est places in North America.
@SeamrógCreek
@SeamrógCreek Жыл бұрын
This is not my intention. The point of these small wind turbines is to augment the system, not to fully charge it at 5kw. These turbines only produce 300-800kw at most depending on their speed, so most likely a few hundred watts at best, due to their size. Augmentation is adding any "free" wattage at any time whether solar is available or not. I don't need wind to charge the whole system, just off-set usage at night or on low solar days. For sure, all turbines need dummy loads to handle excess power, those will be in place to prevent overloads, but they are just not shown in this video. We've changed a lot of stuff since this video was done, the turbines and solar aren't even on the container anymore. Thanks for watching and feedback, always appreciate other peoples inputs! And thanks for the reference to that other channel, I'll check it out!

@SeamrógCreek

Well, supposedly the NINILADY turbine has one built into it, and the other one does not. So I think for one of them I will, the other in theory should use its internal dump once the brake wiring is applied. I'm going to test this thoroughly soon as they are mounted.

I don’t have to ever see that in the wind to know how well it will work. I hope you didn’t spend much money on that . Anything that you can lift with one hand is useless unless you’re looking at collecting micro watts . Even in high wind events that won’t produce hardly anything. If you’re going off grid and you have skills just build a Axial Flux . It’s the only way to have something that works or buy a turbine from Tony at hurricane wind power.
