We finally got all of our panels wired down to the electrical cabinet and all of the equipment installed. In this video we wire all the major components and bring the system online. We even power the Starlink off of it.
While there's a few more small items to do, the system is working and online. A major milestone for us on our off-grid property!
The grounding system is not shown here, but all grounding wires, equipment, solar panel rails, ground rods, etc, now terminate into a special copper grounding bus installed in the cabinet.
This is what we are using: k7s.co/3B0xwiM
Also see some amazing Bull Elk and Buck Deer in this video.

You don't need to unscrew the back of the PV connector. Simply crimp the contact on to the wire and push it through the back of the connector body without unscrewing anything. It's even simpler than how you demontrated! Very nice setup.

Best technical oratory on youtube. Victron 'kit' is very flexible. Looking forward to those videos where you flex the remote ability of the system. So cool.

Thank you! Its been working very well so far, the remote control and data capabilities is worth every penny using Victron. I need to do a video on that, its amazing. That'll be so much fun doing a 48V system! I still have a bit more to do but I'll do a short video on that as well when I get back there. Thanks for watching!

@@SeamrógCreek I look forward to your next KZbin on the system. I love offgrid living, I was totally offgrid for 7+ years but had to move back to the city due to medical problems & have been living with a 7Kw grid tied system……which has kept my yearly bills to about $400/year (AUD) but I just loath bring reliant on power companies and are relocating back to the remote wilderness & keen as to build my next system. Enjoyed you set up, really well done, you should be proud of what you’ve achieved. I will absolutely be using Victron gear and I will be using REC Alpha pure Solar Panels which will be ground mounted. Depending on a few things may even look at setting up a small hydro system to compliment the solar , especially during overcast/raining weather we get during the winter down on the bottom of the planet. Anyway…..keep the videos rolling brother, appreciate it 👍

@@GR8Tmate That's amazing you were offgrid for 7+. Its always the medical crap that ruins all the fun in life, right?! Hopefully you can get back out there and live it up. I'd love to see what you end up putting together, photos, videos, whatever ya got, when you get to that point. I did make some changes since this video, but we haven't been back to the property for awhile, dealing with family things all month in various other cities. Hoping to get back up more regularly starting next month, I want to do a an update on what I changed in this system and how far along we are with interior wiring. I also need to do a follow-up video on the bath house after a year of it being a resin shed, people are asking about its status. Thanks again for watching and the support, its much appreciated!

@@SeamrógCreek Absolutely keen to see you updates. I’ve never created a video and I rarely take photos, it’s not that I’m selfish, it’s just I never thought my things were interesting 😂. I also struggle with mobility, I’m a retired first responder with spinal injury so everything just takes much longer and isn’t so pretty 😬…..I figured people would want to watch me clambering around. I do however enjoy watch someone competent like you and sometimes it’s good to communicate in the comments as you can pick ideas or mistakes up etc. I love how good all this gear is getting & I’m itching to get a Victron system running, nothing more satisfying when dreams come together and just work. My new systems going to be ground mounted solar and I’m excited about that because it will make access a breeze for me, great for trouble shooting or even cleaning. All the best to you, I hope your system exceeds your expectations……goid to be alive now, with all these fab toys to play with 🤙🏼

@@GR8Tmate Absolutely! Its amazing how good alternative power systems are getting. Can't wait to get the Wind experiments up too! I totally get not taking pictures or videos. 90% of the time I put a video together, I think why am i doing this...nobody cares 😂 and i'm not that interesting. Ground mount is awesome, we did debate doing that prior to having the building to install it. It would be far easier to maintain and clean snow if you get that! Well if you do get it done, I'd love a picture!!

I watched all your Solar/Wind videos you never got to the wind connection or how the wind turbines worked out? 😔 I have a Larger Victron system I've been trying to add wind to.
@SeamrógCreek
@SeamrógCreek Жыл бұрын
Ya, we have not had time to get to that part of the project like we had planned due to a number of things happening middle of last year, but it's high on my list due to wanting the wind augmentation during the rainy months (which is right now). Plus I really want to experiment with it. I'm really hoping to do that portion this spring, we have everything on-site, to at least try the first attempt. Although I will probably buy a better controller, then what came with both turbines. My plan is to put the vertical one in first as its higher quality and higher power. I really wish Victron made a wind Controller!

@@chubbynot0 No worries! I was just going to say I'd never seen that written anywhere. In fact the page on the batteries we use talks about series vs parallel. There's also a video in this youtube series on the batteries themselves (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnekfZ6Ohsx4b6M), but here's a link to them directly: www.renogy.com/deep-cycle-agm-battery-12-volt-200ah/ So far they've been awesome! They are stupidly heavy, however, but at 200AH each you can't go wrong. They've been online about a year, and plugged into the solar system for about 6 months now. I'll keep people posted on how they hold up! Thanks for watching and for the comments

Very nice setup, im planning to have victron components as well, Just wanna ask something, are victron components fine during winter when temperature drops to negative degree celsius? Or they should be installed in a heated room? Thanks!
@SeamrógCreek
@SeamrógCreek Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Got the final few tweaks done recently too so its pretty much done now. We've been using it extensively the past couple months and it has worked really well. Even on the super rainy, overcast crappy NW days, we get enough to keep things running and do some charging. Should be a good test over the winter months to see how it performs over many days of crappy weather. I insulated the cabinet for the most part, so the heat from the electronics would help keep the cabinet semi-warm in cold months and in the summer keep the more extreme heat out. The technical spec for each device is on Victrons web site, but most of the things I've looked up where okay in the -40 +50°C range. I would definitely read the technical specs for each device though, as some may perform differently in extreme temperatures. 100% of the manuals and tech specs are on victronenergy.com web site for everything they make. We've been down to 29F (-1.6C) with no issues so far, but its not been colder then that yet.

Hi @damaha5, thanks for reaching out again. Sorry we have not had time to move into the Wind space. That was originally the plan to get something up right away, but due to other priorities we have not gotten back to it. Its high on my wish list, as I'm excited to do it. Right now we are working on a large scale water catchment system, so I intend to do a video about that. I hope to get back to wind soon, and if I do I'll be sure to send you a note in case you miss it. Hope things are well in New Zealand for you all! Thanks for watching.

As far as I know Victron does not make Wind Controllers, I really wish they did. You shouldn't use Solar controllers for wind as they don't know how to manage breaking and load dumping. I've not used these yet but Here's some that I've been looking at that do 24v and 48v: www.hyenergy.com.cn/a/English/Off_grid_controller/20150902/418.html
