Yes. It would have to be 2 strands of a size 5 (bulky) yarn. This is because size 5 is half the4 thickness of size 6 (super bulky) yarn.

I have a 23 inch head would 42 on the brim work out?

I might go to 44 rows. Every two rows adds about an inch. 44 rows would be about 20 inch circumference.
