Most importantly I absolutely love this! So please don't take this as bashing, I promise I don't mean it like that. I really wish you would consider making another video for it for the not so experienced crocheters. There's quite a few places where you don't specify to turn your work and also which side to start the hood on right or left , top or bottom and if your supposed to sew the hood together from the inside or the outside. For the inexperienced crocheter that may not know how to read a patern and is relying on the video to make the project, it could be really confusing. Again, thank you for the beautiful pattern, I love this and I mean no harm. If you redo this video please share it with me❤

@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
It would depend on your gauge. Your starting chain, number of rows you work would all be different. What I have suggested is to use 2 strands of size 4 yarn held together while you work, but make sure to check your gauge.

ALSO...... How would I adjust the size for a larger person?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
You would just have to add to the beginning chain in any multiple of 2, then work the repeat section more to compensate for the extra stitches. Remember that the length you are aiming for is the width from fingertips to fingertips plus the BLOSC sections for the pockets. Then when you work the hood, just make sure you are centering it on the scarf.

@rileysmom3294
@rileysmom3294 8 ай бұрын
Just finished following the pattern but in my opinion I'd change a few things. 1st the size, maybe it's the hook and yarn I used but none of it seems big enough. I'm going to add to the length of the scarf and the width because it looks only big enough for a child. 2nd issue I have would be the size of the pockets. As is these pockets wouldn't hold my cell phone much less anything else. Over all I like it but Id like it more if it actually fit.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 8 ай бұрын
If you want the size to be correct then you will need to make sure your gauge matches the pattern gauge. This biggest issue I see people have is using a worsted weight yarn (weight #4) instead of a bulky yarn (weight #5) which is twice the thickness. If the smaller yarn is used then the pattern comes out half the size which would feel like a child's size.

@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Жыл бұрын
Did you use a size 5 (bulky or chunky) yarn? I have had many people try this pattern with a size 4 yarn (Worsted weight or medium) and the pattern comes out small. Size 4 yarn is half the thickness as size 5. If that is not the case, then I would check you gauge. Some people just naturally crochet tighter than others, especially on their chain stitches. The gauge should be 6 Sc x 5 Rows in BLO = 2 Inches . So if you measure 6 of your single crochet stitches in the pocket area, it should be 2 inches wide.

@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure where you are at..... but here is some advice that I hope will help. 1. The shawl is worked in rows, so you turn at the end of every row. 2. Once you finish the scarf section you will fasten off. You will turn the scarf and count over the number of stitches in the pattern (basically skipping those stitches) then you will reattach your yarn with a slip stitch and begin the hood rows. 3. When you are complete with the hood rows, you will fasten off leaving a long yarn end and use that to sew the hood together at the top. I hope that clarifies the area that is troubling you.

I had the the same question, so I decided to follow the pattern on size 4 yarn to see how it would turn out. I’m on the 4th row and it’s definitely much smaller then the intended size, more likely for a toddler/little kid. We will need to figure out how to scale up the pattern to make it fit an adult.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
Yes smaller yarn means a smaller shawl. You would have to work more chains and more rows, plus the pocket would need to be bigger. The easiest way to use size 4 yarn is to crochet with the 7mm hook and crochet with two strands of size 4 yarn held together. You will still want to check your gauge, (I did this with another pattern and the 2 strand is a smidge thicker than a size 5 yarn).
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
The best way to use a size 4 yarn is to use the same hook size (7mm) and use two strands of size 4 yarn held together as you crochet. Check your gauge to make sure it is close to the recommended gauge. I have spoken to several people have have done it this way and it works.

I'm currently making this scarf and loving it. But I think there is count number wrong in row 16. When working it with 68 sc, I get to 52 sc on the other end before coming to the final 17 BLO sc. Adding everything up, I get a count of 252 instead if 236. I believe the 68 sc should be changed to 60 to get a correct count.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Жыл бұрын
I would do whatever works for you but I am getting a count of 236. Here is my math (17 BLO SC,) + (68 SC) + (stitch pattern, which is 33 SC and 33 Chain spaces, to a total of 66) + (68 SC) + (17 BLO SC) = 236 17+68+66+68+17=236 The starting chain is 237 so we lose one chain as a turning chain, so the count should be 236.

Love this pattern! Any chance you have an idea how many to cast on to adapt it to a child size? I’m talking an age range of 7-12. Sorry if this has been asked before, I didn’t want to scroll through 270+ comments!

I’m hoping you still check for questions. This was such a fun project to make. I would like to make the scarf a little longer and the pockets bigger. I’m new at this and I’m not sure how to do that and still count stitches. I have learned counting is the key to straight edges after many failed projects. Thanks for any help you can offer.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Жыл бұрын
You can add to the starting scarf length in multiples of 2. So you could add 10 extra chains or 20 extra chains when you working your starting chain. You want to make sure you work the same number of stitches for the pockets on each side. You will just need to make sure that when you start your hood, you are placing it in the center of the scarf.

I am just shooting in the dark here, but make sure you fasten off after the scarf section is complete. Then we will count down 77 stitches and slip stitch to the 78th stitch. Then you will chain 1 and start the hood. (This is where most people have an issue) please let me know if this is not the issue you are having.

What an awesome vide. I have a 6.5 hook as I have not crocheted in years. More of a sewer. How would I adjust the amount of yarn needed & weight? Or should I jut purchase the 7 hook?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
I would check your gauge. It is possible that if you crochet loosely, the 6.5 mm will be ok, but if your gauge is too small you will end up with a smaller scarf. So check your gauge and decide from there.

Can you be a little more specific on the yarn. I got a medium (4) size yarn. It is a 5 oz yarn. Will this work
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Size 4 yarn will not work unless you use 2 strands of size 4 held together as you crochet. You will still want to make sure your gauge is correct. But 2 strands of size 4 yarn is very close to a size 5 yarn.

Anyone try this with a yarn like Bernat Blanket?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I know some people have used 2 strands of worsted weight yarn like red heart super saver held together as they work. Bernat blanket is a #6 weight yarn, so you would just have to see if there is a hook size that meets the gauge because this did use a #5 weight yarn. I know Caron Cakes has a few lines that are #5, and some of their #6 yarns are able to meet the same gauge as a #5 yarn. I also saw that Hobby Lobby has quite a few #5 yarns.

You would have to check the gauge. It says it is a size 5 yarn. You can always adjust your hook to meet the needed gauge if the gauge is off.
