I have the 2021 version of this (hatch) and I still marvel at how well it handles twisty roads in spite of the beam rear suspension. It's not a GTI, (I had a 2016 GTI, quicker turn-in and a bit sharper handling overall) but in some ways it's better imo. The interior of the MK7 was great and many thought of it as budget Audi, but the Mazda 3 has an interior better than a normal Audi A3, but once again, just my opinion. The best thing about this car is Japanese reliability. I havent had any of the coolant leak issues the early Mazda turbo engines are known for (knock on wood) and other than the infotainment freezing up on me once (happened multiple times on my GTI) and a cracked windshield that isnt really Mazda's fault (weak factory battery replaced at just over 2 years is however) means I've had nothing but happy motoring since the day I drove off the dealer lot. Note to prospective buyers: once the factory tires wear out go for some better and slightly wider tires (I went 235/40/18 Pirelli P Zero) and it will transform your handling from just good to really good...but also throw off your speedo. Thats not a big deal though, after a while your mind automatically adjusts for the real speed.

im looking at 2023 fully loaded used ones. They are pretty priced well now for around 28k average with sub 20k miles. New ones almost 40k or more after taxes. too much for a mazda imo

So this car requires 3rd gear to hit 60. It shifts before it even hits the redline. I realize that the 2.5NA will hit exactly 60 right before it shifts at 6250rpm into 3rd, and then there's time it'll shift slightly before that on hot days. I'm guessing with the NA, it's probably to prevent detonation on 87octone with the 13:1cr. It's no wonder why everyone can't get consistent 0-60 times with these cars.

The mazda has a ridiculously more exciting powertrain with the turbo and it has a lot more features like the 360 cam and HUD and AWD. Also no CVT here. Much more luxurious ride and interior especially with the red leather. Civic is cheaper if you don't need or want those things. Also more space. Civic feels way more of an appliance though unless you go Si or TR. One place the civic is undeniably better is fuel economy. The 2.5 especially the T is a thirsty girl unless you are doing 200+ miles on the highway.

Yes it is Irvine's best neighborhood after Shady Canyon and is as good as quail hill buy gets a lot hotter in summer...it's super nice. The Topher always test drives in OC around that area when he is in town for Summer in Calif...they also test in LA and other counties depending on Dealer Manufacturer loaner availability
