This is why it is important to create a Recovery Drive as soon as you reach the Windows Desktop on a new PC. The Recovery Drive on a flash drive will contain and give the the user access to the Advanced settings that will allow the user to either reinstall Windows or install a System Image.

This way is still useful for Win11, we could still use the backup and restore from Win7, and also easier with aomei backupper to backup my system which I've used for long time.

Thank you for such great information. This is what i really need to know in terms of maintaning my system and make it sustainable. I have questions: 1. Do "Backup Drive (B:)" and "Repair disc Windows 10 64 Bit" have the exact function? Or is it different in some way? Please elaborate the difference between them :D 2. When our PC/Laptop crashes, how exactly the steps we need to do to "restore/recall" the system image we created? Especially using the "Backup Drive (B:)" in your case. Or in my case, it is my 1TB Seagate External Hardisk. Thank you before i hope you have time to answer me

Well just think about it. If you have 60GB of data and each DVD is 4.7GB, then its going to take 12 DVDs. Just use an old hard drive and buy a SATA7 to USB converter.

Just wanted to add a small bit of info on the Windows10 Services that need to be active to avoid any errors during the creation of a Recovery Drive, System Image, Full Backup including a System Image and System Restore Points. *Block Level Backup Engine Service (Manual) Will run automatically as needed.* *Volume Shadow Copy (Automatic)* *Windows Backup (Manual) Will run automatically as needed.* *Windows Event Log (Automatic)* *Workstation (Automatic)* Finally figuring out that disabling Workstation (A No, No) is what kept me from creating a successful Restore Point and Backup including System Image. With these services enabled, there will Zero issues with System Restore, Creating a Recovery Drive, Creating a System Image and Creating a Full Backup with System Image Included. Hope this helps anyone reading this comment. 😉👍 [EDIT] If you're running Windows 11 also include this service to the services listed above. *Work Folders (Manual) Will run automatically as needed.* Now open *Programs and Features* and select *Turn Windows Features on or off.* Scroll all the way to the bottom and make sure *Work Folders Client* is selected.

@seaborg9946
@seaborg9946 3 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that you can make the system recovery drive and the repair disk on the same external drive. I recommend using a 5GB USB for the system repair disc, and a cheap hard drive that has enough storage for your data when making the system recovery drive.
@jordanb7304
@jordanb7304 3 жыл бұрын
@@seaborg9946 I looked into it a little. I think you can partition a hardrive into at least two separate drives (divinded into like Drive P and Drive Q for example). But I think that partition is permanent. So I just bought a 16 GB thumbdrive for the Recovery Drive. I think for my system it said a minimum of 12 GB so I couldnt use any of my 8GB stragglers.

Does creating the system image delete whatever was already on your external hard drive? I save lots of extra large files like videos on my SSD, but don't wanna risk them being deleted when creating this system image. Can they exist together on my SSD given there's enough space for all of it?
@joshuahanson5233
@joshuahanson5233 4 жыл бұрын
Creating a system image on your external hard drive will not delete what's currently on it. It will simply make a new folder with the system image in it.
@ticktockbam
@ticktockbam 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshuahanson5233 However, creating a system repair disk (the second step in the video at the 3:53 timestamp) will indeed delete everything IF you choose to use a USB thumbdrive instead of DVD disks. So make sure to back up all your files from that USB stick. Also, using a USB thumbdrive/USB stick instead of DVDs is more convenient since you can just get a 64GB or 128GB USB stick and avoid using multiple DVDs to create the system repair "disk". The only problem using an USB thumbdrive will be that you won't be able to use it for anything else: you won't be able to store other files there since, if you do so, you might risk damaging the system repair drivers, so be sure to use one you just bought or a spare one you have that has at least 64GB, just to be sure.

The step of the process you're talking about does not require a lot of storage space(I believe it only needs to be about 3GB). I would recommend using a USB for the system image repair disc. The part of the process that requires a lot of storage is the system image backup. The backup is the drive in which you will be copying over all the programs, applications, downloads, etc. The system image repair disc simply allows you to reinstall Windows from scratch onto your computer (after which you would use the backup drive to restore all your data). Let me know if anyone else has questions or issues.

If your files get encrypted by ransomware then you might find a solution somewhere on KZbin or on Google. If not, they're gone. In that case, watch a video on how to restore a system image on KZbin if you have done the steps in this video prior to getting the ransomware, it will get rid of the virus but it won't get you your files back.

You could have accessed the old windows 7 backup tool directly from the option below file history. You are just taking a detour to get there :). BUT.... Please people be warned. WIndows "backup and restore Windows 7" is the biggest piece of software garbage ever coded. DO NOT USE IT. You will see weird stuff like Windows copying all your games from a game drive, or large movie files into your system backup, effectively creating unnecessary obese backups that can be 3, 4, 5 times larger than necessary. You will also experience regular backup failures. Backups will take hours to create and then fail in the last minute or so. All kinds of other software can cause it to fail during backups, like for example Microsoft's own Onedrive. This software is pure horror !!!!!! That is why Microsoft wants to get rid of it. Just use a simple piece of free system backup software like Macrium Reflect. It is extremely reliable, it will never fail, it will only copy what is needed, it will do a full system backup in 10 minutes or so, and it will create backups that are much smaller. You have the option to precisely choose what you need, or you can let Macrium intelligently choose the partitions that are needed for a quick system restore. Macrium Reflect can also add a boot option to your boot menu, or create an emergency dvd, or usb. It is a marvelous piece of software. At the moment I still use the free version myself, because I do not need to create incremental backups per se. I just have a few full backups on an external HDD. And if there ever was a piece of software that is worth buying then this surely is it.
