Windows 7, 10, and 11 should all be made available and updated so people can choose which system they prefer, that is what is called a Democracy, rather than forcing unwanted features and systems on people. I wouldn't recommend using Windows 11 in 2024 and beyond.

If you ask me, the bloat and complexity has only gotten worse where Windows 7 might look less bloated by comparison. Even that one bloated app that Microsoft couldn't kill off fast enough had a dedicated version of Windows for it - Windows Media Center. But if you meant to say that Windows 7 was simpler, I might still disagree when compared to something like Windows 2000 or NT. Nope! Windows 7 was complicated & bloated. ...and solid!

I used Windows 7 Ultimate until Jan-2024. It had all updates but no MS support for many years and had no issues whatsoever, Had AVAST on it, did cloning, Imaging backups never had problems even without MS support. Only in Jan-2024 went to Windows 10 Pro and have no plans for Windows 11 here at all.

I just retired my widows 7 about 7 months ago to be able to run newer apps like more modern video and photo software. I jest bought a 5000+ Euro PC with 128GB ram, the best of everything to have it for a long time before the hardware demand Windows 11. Intel and MS agenda is to push out new hardware demands for their data harvesting systems. Pardon my language but Hell will freeze over before I go to Windows 11.

@@oojimmyflip LOL. I was on windows 7 till january 2024. All that time self supported. windows FW, AV not from windows etc. NEVER had any problems. When win10 was finally without problems I went to win10. Win11 + box makers is another selling/marketing maneuver that works well on naivetés like yourself. So you better worry about your problems, I am fine and able to do on 10 all you will do on 11, but without control, manipulations, spywares. All apps work on 10 as on 11 and for many year to come simply because huge and still majority users on 10. Anyways, watch out and take care. Also win defender and fw keeps updating monthly for very long time still, and I was getting it on win 7 till i quit for win10. a little lesson for you here,

@@oojimmyflip I had to install never Photoshop and new versions of my video edition software that required Win 10. I now have 128 GB RAM, i9 CPU and 2x4TB Samsung 990 Pro disks, 4080 Super. I think I will be find for a while.

Not used 7 in a while, referring back to your prior video Brian and for anyone who wants a smoother 24H2, chris titus tool, iso mod makes 24H2 run a lot smoother, add oosu10 and simple wall to that, it makes it run pretty well. Also guys like Brian said 7 isnt going to be the most secure but if you have special software that needs 7 then either offline or be very careful is all i can say. Yeah, done a fresh install of 11 on my dell 5040 and used the CTT version iso of 24H2 and it runs great so far, hopefully i haven't just cursed my self lol.

Its very important to know the age of your Windows 7 installation media! If your disc or ISO is from before 2018, Windows Update will NOT work, whatsoever. If you have a disc or ISO from before 2018, you will need to download a few individual updates from the Microsoft Catalog. You will need the update that fixes Windows Update so it can see the correct Microsoft servers. You will also need the update for SHA-2 support. There may be a third update but I forgot but after those, Windows Update should work again. If your disc or ISO is made in 2018 or newer, these vital updates were already included. Cheers.

Windows 7 is where it truly peaked, no bullcrapwares, no A.I. and no nonsense. But if you wish to still use it now, I don't think it still support Steam and Red Dead Balls 2 though. They ended support for Windows 7. That was a shame. Even if you have a very low end system, you better install Windows 11 and make it the lightest instead of using obsolete OS from 17 years ago. 🤷🏻‍♀️🥴

Only install critical updates manually and never install security updates, use a decent antivirus and the firewall and away you go, I only installed all the updates once and it slowed down so much, I had to reinstall and never did it again. Unlike Windows 10, Windows 7 has hundreds of individual updates. It will take a long time to install all Windows 7 updates. Microsoft changed it in Windows 10 with cumulative updates.

Man, you are my SAVIOUR. My grandfather's HDD died, and after struggling to finally get the BIOS to recognize my bootable USB thumbstick (to clean install W7 on another drive I wasn't using anymore) I thought updates had become completely inaccessible. I got so desperate, I tried to create a system image from a laptop that I have with up-to-date W7, but for some mystical reason, it forced me to create that image on a network drive ?! After hours of setting that crap up, the freshly installed OS just wouldn't take it. Then I thought "who knows, Google is your friend" and here I am ! I'll definitely follow your advices regarding security, grandpa is old and could easily open the wrong mail ... btw, is Windows Defender that bad a firewall ? Anyways, thanks to you, his days won't be as terribly long, since he'll be once again able to play his favourite card games. You have all of my gratitude !!

If you have an app that requires Windows 7, you could run it in a VM, using for instance VirtualBox - which is free. I use this for many things, including running a copy of Win XP in which I run some apps that won't run in later versions.

The first thing that strikes the viewers of this video is you can't miss how much better windows 7 looks than windows 10 or 11. I myself think it looks like visually windows went backwards after 7 rather than forwards. I'm still running windows 7 with old 1990s mobos and 6 gig of ddr2 ram and Amd 6000+ dual core processors on the AM2 socket platform they run pretty fast on the 64 bit version of windows 7, heck my TV media centre is running the 32 but version with only 3 gig of ddr2 and ready boost using a 32 gig USB drive it's plenty fast enough on a pentium i5 computer.

That's why when you've done it once, clone that installation and put the clone off somewhere safe. I've done that with a Win7 vm. If I need/want a Win7 system, I just re-import the clone as a new VM. Quick startup to a known state.

I have an old system that has Windows 7 and every now and then I still get one update. I have Avast and Malwarebytes on it and the only issue I ran into was after a while Google Chrome will stop updating because of support. I don't use for anything personal.

I'm shure Windows 7 was a great system. I that time I still was a XP user until 2014 when support ended. I bought then a Windows 8 upgrade dvd to my system. I was glad for my XP. I had it for 9 years on my main pc. An older laptop I have I alsow had Windows xp, and that got a registry hack to think that this pc was a pos ready intallation from 2009, and that made it get updates to 2019 when support for that version ended.

Yes but it's secure if you run it on top of linux, you could run it in VM fully functional also you can update it with opatch that sort out your vulnerabilities. Also you didn't say don't run as administrator but run as guest ,should do that anyway that will protect you from vulnerabilities. Make sure your administration password is at least 25 digits random or use a good password manager.

Secure until you open a web-browser. Then all bets are off. Click on anything dodgy and the system is owned. The biggest vulnerability is the user, followed closely by the OS being riddled with unpatched vulnerabilities.

@@jedi-mic Even if setting up a VM, you still need to take precautions to make sure that you limit the damage that could be done should someone pwn you. You need to be sure that the host machine and the rest of your network remain inaccessible from the VM. You also probably want to take a clean snapshot of the VM so that when it gets pwned, you can easily revert to a known uninfected state. You can be pretty secure on a VM but you still need to know the risks and take action to mitigate them.

The main issue I have that it is kind of "impossible" o install Win10 and earlier versions on new laptop do to the hardware changes like NVMe drives that Windows do not recognize and external drivers are needed which gives the Blue Screen Of Death after installing Win10.

Unfortunately modern programs both leisure and business stopped supporting it and I was missing new features I needed, and this forced me to update to that mess that win11 is. IF one must run W7 in 2024, use Firefox, it has less CVE's > 8 in the last 5-7y. Be sure to config Firefox for better security & use a secure DNS provider in your router, so that all devices use that DNS and not your ISP DNS. Better browser security = something like: 0. Set Browsers overall security level by 1 step. AKA not default/basic. 1. Delete cookies on exit. 2. Only use HTTPS. 3. Set your secure DNS in Windows/browser for mobile devices like laptops, phones etc. 4, Dont let the browser save your passwords etc. Rather use the BitWarden Firefox plugin etc. 5. Disable tracking. 6. Setup DNS over HTTPS/TLS etc.

My daily driver is an i7-2600 circa 2011 with 20gig ram, a GTX1070 and windows 7. It does everything I need it to without constantly updating, rebooting on its own in the middle of my work, and without all the tracking. I routinely go 6 months without a reboot. I have never run an antivirus (but I'm very particular about what I will install). Though I admit it is getting harder to hold out on Windows 7. Brave browser no longer getting updates, which my bank complains about so I have to spoof the user agent. Finding a driver for the GTX1070 was not easy. But it will always be the best Windows ever made. They have gone way too far with newer windows. Every year it gets worse. I did try linux about 7 or 8 years ago and couldn't do it. Too many specific applications I use that I couldn't find a suitable linux replacement for.

It's not worth the risk. I would only use W7 as an offline nostalgia gaming machine, or for journaling or any other offline task. At most use it for general browsing, but do not ever log in to anything that needs a password unless it's a burner KZbin account or something.

I use Avast Free, in the firewall section you can block or allow individual apps, and mark individual networks as safe or not (i.e your router connection or any other networks detected by the pc & Avast), but there are no other settings than just those basic ones. It's OK for me though, I downloaded the latest version of Zone Alarm Free, they have ruined what used to be a great program, so back to using Avast.

Nese 7 (which similar to Windows 7) also receives security updates which pre-installed SP1 (Service Pack 1) and feature updates but, sadly is: only 64-bit supported while they dropped 32-bit so, pre-installed drivers on Nese 7 is still beta and may missing drivers. I use Nese 7 Enterprise long time since July, 2024 while they released. Plus, I use R3dfox (which similar to Mozilla Firefox) are better than Mozilla Firefox

*please do not use windows 7 outside of a vm* (only use it native if you have to) and if your going to this Britec09's advice is probs the best i've seen on youtube though (even if your safe you are running windows 7 with third party or modified updates etc, it will never be as secure as prior to EOL as zero days always exist)
