Im still using windows 8.1 on my main pc in 2024 and I dont plan on upgrading it anytime soon. Ive used Windows 10 and 11 and I still prefer Windows 8.1 over those operating systems. I love the start screen its unique in its own way

I am an Apple user and barely use my Mac for actual Mac tasks, but I think the main reason that people didn't update to windows 10 is because the interface was so different. They like the older interface of Windows 7 and 8/8.1.

Windows 8.1 is much smoother but the downside is that RT 8.1 has no store apps and apps are really hard to get cause it has a arm processor and wine is hard to install although it is possible

I have the Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 ISO files saved to my computer's hard drive. I use Windows 8.1 on an older laptop that I connect to the internet and run old games on. I don't keep personal information on it for obvious reasons, but I love using it.

I can’t believe you were holding up a Surface Pro. I have an original Surface Pro. It’s a Windows 8. I had gotten cancer and was sick for awhile. So my Surface has been just sitting in a closet. It wasn’t running properly. So I thought I would set it back to factory settings. BIG MISTAKE! now it won’t give me options to connect to Wi-Fi or even a hot spot. And I don’t have dial up. And there’s not a slot for Ethernet on the Surface. I’m trying to figure out how to get this upgraded to 8.1 (which is also not a thing anymore) so that I can then go to Windows 10. I’m trying to not spend a lot of money to do this because I don’t know if it will work. Can I just install Windows 10 with a usb? Do I have to install windows 8.1 before I can install Windows 10? This was $1000 plus tax when I bought it. But I got sick and so I used my phone more. Because I just wasn’t sitting up very much. Help!

@@kociaparowka1 The Clover Trail cpu isn't supported on Windows 10 anymore. Google search it. I know because I had Windows 10 on the tablet. I doubt Windows 11 will support that cpu. Microsoft has been wanting to stop support for that cpu. I put Windows 8.1 on it again. It actually works better. The cpu won't work with Linux. There was a dispute with the makers of the technology in the cpu and Intel or something.

Actually ill have to ask this but i have a old computer with 6 GB of ram 1,5 TB of space and a AMD Radeon 7870. But the storage unit is a 2012 hard drive. So idk will the system run well if i install Windows 10 on it. So is it a better idea to install Windows 8.1 on it? Btw it is not my main computer.

Just keep 8.1 if you have a slow computer and aren't able to upgrade. As long as you are pretty careful around the internet and stuff you SHOULD be practically the same as if it didn't end support. The security on windows 10 absolutely isn't worth it if your pc takes ages to open 1 program.

I kept one Asus Windows 7 and I have one Asus Windows 8.1 and I refused to upgrade either one to Windows 10,even while they offered it for free! Thankfully, they no longer offer free upgrades! Yes. Windows 7 went end of support in 2020, it will still work but won’t be updated. Windows 10 is still supported until 2025 if you update to it.

If it supports 8 it should work with 8.1 or 10. You may need to grab an ISO of windows 8.1 to update and then update to 10 from there.
