Windows 8 , 8.1 Disable touchpad gestures

Disable annoying touchpad gestures that cause you to toggle between windows and other devices.

ASUS USERS: To do this at least on an Asus Q550 LF, take the steps he offers and then when you get to Hardware and Sound, scroll down to ASUS Smart Gestures. Find edge gestures and turn them off. Pretty much the same as he describes but they are called something slightly different under Hardware and Sound. Horrible feature. Thanks, Paul Press.

+EuphoniaPooch Also, if you are on an Asus machine and the smart gestures option does not display in hardware and sound click the up arrow "show hidden icons" at the bottom right of the screen and the Asus smart gesture icon should be there. This was way more difficult than it had to be.

Thank you! The track pad has driven me crazy for six months. I followed your instructions and turned off the swipe as well as the pinch/spread. Now if I could only get the click to respond consistently!

Thanks for posting. Watched the video and decided not to break my Toshiba laptop into pieces. Mine kept zooming in and out while surfing the web. Figured out the "pinch/zoom" was really not something I'd use but was extremely annoying.

Worked great. The menu was slightly different for the Lenovo Y40 laptop device's touchpad but it was in the same place and easy to navigate.

Outstanding - I was ready to punch a hole in my laptop because of this issue and the guidance for Windows 8.1 referenced non existent General settings and/or other PC Settings categories that didn't come close. Thank you very much and I wish contributors to these help forums would first test their instructions before publishing.

I believe for the developers it was a classic example of what happens when just because you can do as something, doesn't mean you should. They should've kept it simple(KISS). Im sure a cyborg would love all the gestures. Happy this vid has helped!

As you said, the model of your machine can vary. I finally found the path for my 2 year old cheapo HP laptop with 8.1. I managed to get rid of the swipe feature when it was new, but the machine decided to crash and reset all factory settings with System Recovery. The Mouse page did not have Touchpad tab. It had Device Settings. Click that, which shows device "Synaptics TouchPad V7.5 on PS/2 port." Click on Settings and there it is! Unclicked "Enable Edge Swipes."VIOLA!

for anyone still having issues on 8.1, i just went to the control panel main screen and typed "mouse" in the search bar. the very first thing that came up was "change mouse settings" and I was able to turn off the edge scrolling from there. thank god because that was so aggravating. hope that helps anyone still having issues.

Thanks for this ! I was very frustrated with my Toshiba touchpad with 8.1. The "edge swipes" were the problem. Had to uncheck the box for Enable Edge Swipes which is in the touchpad settings.

Oh maan! That was a pain in the ass! Lenovo Ideapad y480 (synaptics touchpath drive) Control Panel/Mouse/Device Settings tab (Synaptics logo)/Settings and uncheck "Enable edge swipes"

mate i have no touch pad install but i have a touch pad laptop, i had disabled it from asus gesture setting, after the update of nvidia graphics driver i cant see any smart gesture in my icon neither i cant disable it from the fn+f9 option jus tell me the path of asus gester where it is located so that i can disable it i have win 10 64 bit pls help
