Windows 9x is notoriously difficult to install (even in a VM!) on modern hardware. Now you can do it easily!

I forgot to mention this but if audio is not working on 98/ME, install the Sound Blaster PCI 128 drivers. This is the sound card that VMware emulates.

Can you make a video where you try to create the SMALLEST POSSIBLE .ISO size for Windows 11? Obviously it has to be pretty functional like working UI, Internet, Gaming, and app support. Currently the smallest ISO is around 1.2GB with a final Windows size of around 3-4GB (Atomic 11 v2)

There are much less features on my end for VMWare Workstation Player 17 for Linux. I am lacking a "Boot to firmware" option to continue following the guide.

Don't use VMware Workstation Player, use Workstation Pro (it's now free as of May 2024) During the setup, just choose that you're using for personal use

@@laglife I did so. Installed the bundle for Workstation Pro and after opening claimed it is for personal use. After the license window is closed (that has VMware Workstation Pro branding), the software "transforms" to VMware Workstation Player including all the branding.

The package I used from the download section was "VMware Workstation Pro for Personal Use (For Linux) 17.6"

@@laglife It opens the license manager, and after confirming it loads Workstation Pro. Apparently using the Desktop file it installs you only brings Player. I just imported the virtual machine created with Player, and now I am resuming follow the guide. Thank you!

Do you have any way to make Aero run smoothly in Vmware? I mean I installed Vista on VMware Workstation 17.6 and although it worked, it wasn't as smooth as on real hardware and was quite... laggy. September 12, 2024 3:26PM

change the vm compatibility to vmware 15. it will work way better on vmware 16 and 17

I've never had issues with Aero in VMware, the one thing I would suggest is to change the amount of graphics memory allocated to the VM. For 7 and Vista I use 256MB.

laglife on my amd windows machine, vista was laggy to the point when you would need to wait around 5 minutes to get to the folder that you wanted to. when i changed the compatibility to vmware 15, it started to run like butter (ps: i never had problems with 7)
