When I googled this problem, there are 20 step articles with mutiple cmd lists, switching on and off multiple services, countless instructions and copy/paste 'computer experts' that rarely offer solutions. This was simple and worked... so thanks!

This worked. Thanks a lot ! You saved me from a lot of frustration. Now the rant. Sharing on windows is so stupid and frustrating. It's like they are doing it on purpose. Why can't be that simple as right click->share and be done with ? Here is the homegroup, no more homegroup get instead 1000 options that do nothing. Why not assume that who is sharing in a big network knows the risks and will take the appropriate steps and leave the casual home user in peace without having to go through a mental breakdown trying to do something that should be so simple.

I have been scratching my head for resolution of this since quite long. The part where "Everyone" was added and given the permissions gave me clue. When I simulate it with mine and add a AD group, it resolved my problem. Many thanks and prayers for you.

Just a slight warning for everyone doing this: - granting yourself ownership of an entire drive, especially if you install stuff to it (programs / games) you will start running into issues, which you will not be able to fix easily (undo-ing the ownership change will not work either, because some folders need you as the owner, while others need "SYSTEM" as the owner) You can also more easily share a folder by right clicking it, clicking on share and then entering the username of the user who you will be sharing it with. Giving "EVERYONE" read/write access to an entire drive is an extremely bad practice.

I'm concerned that it has taken 5 mintues just to change security information on 1 folder of the hardrive. My cpu is also running at 100% capacity. I don't think this is a viable option to share an entire hard drive.

I've done this. The stubborn computer (A) now has assess to computer (B) but (B) still gets the permissions denied on computer (A). I've done the sharing thing. I went to systems and changed the four settings to automatic but still it says no permissions.

I want to get access to the whole PC on the network, and If I use your method, it would take hours for windows to apply the changes to every file on the PC, so it's practically unusable. But thanks for the effort, not like it's your fault, this whole fucking network sharing on windows is one huge unmanageable mess, I've spent more time trying to fix it, than actually using it.
