The "MacHUB" killed me! 🤣 I use Parallels 19 on a Mac Studio and it runs really well and seamlessly. I prefer to run it in non-coherence mode because I like to keep OS interaction completely separate, it is just a preference. One huge caveat with Parallels 19 that perhaps you mention in another of your videos is that for version 19, it now ONLY installs Windows "Pro", unlike earlier versions where you can install the cheaper "Home" version. I bought an "OEM" version of Windows 11 Pro for $80 instead of paying the full $200 license since I do not intend to use it in any other machine. Anyhow, great information!

Parallels and hardware Rosetta translation is very impressive, the only unsolvable issue I found was that certain software I used that uses Intel NEON instructions didn't work (scientific visualisation stuff, mainly) Also the platform is reported as "ARM64" so certain developer tools will think that they need to build for ARM, when in fact they are running on what appears to them to be a native x64 machine. That can cause issues with some dev toolchains in my experience, not unsolvable but difficult to resolve. But for standard consumer programs it works extremely well.

And compare speeds in windows with Windows Defender ON (default) and then fully OFF(turn off Realtime protection, Self Protection and everything else you find there). From my experience, results could be drastic sometimes. Especially in multicore/multiprocess scenarios. Note that for quick tests its easier to turn Defender off temporarily in settings, because if you want to add full exclusions you need to add EVERY dev-related path as "folder exclusion" AND "process exclusions" or Defender will still scan it and slow it down.

No offense, but you seem q bit lost. For one, this is windows 11 ARM. For two Windows has had x86 emulation for some time now built in so there is no reason they need to care about Rosetta. For 3, Apple did not come up with the gaming tool. They just took someone else's project from the folks on Linux that had been working on it and doing literally all the work with no help from apple and apple just added a few lines of code and it's a porting tool not even meant for consumers. Also, you have to kno2 how to measure performance. You don't just look at the CPU for that. There are several factors at play. For a laptop macs do major things like actually not require you to be plugged into the wall all the time due to poor battery life. Great video! Unfortunately not all visual studio project types can run under visual studio arm64 SSDT is unsupported 😢

This is also my concern. VS for arm and for Mac isn’t the same fully as it is on PC’s

Can you test trial versions of Memoq and Sdl trados studio on windows virtual machine on macbook air m1. I am translator and I consider buying it and need to test compatibilty.

I saw with this update, they implemented allowing Linux VM's to use Rosetta 2. I'm very curious how that is now and plan on giving it a try here in the future. (unless the new Fedora Asahi Remix release takes care of everything I could ask for)

Wake me up when Windows on ARM can run natively. I actually dig Apple hardware but don't like macOS. Tested Windows through Parallels but scrolling, moving windows, youtube and graphics tasks in general was a no. Loading apps faster is one thing, using them is another.

I primarily work in Windows X86 so there is no use case for a Silicon Mac. I'll stick with my Surface Pro 9. I do use a 2017 MacBook Pro but that is for office productivity stuff exclusively. For people who do equal amounts of work in both Windows and MacOS, the Parallels option sounds like a good solution.

Questions: - I got the new 48gb M3 MAX. If I got parallels installed but not using it, I guess no RAM is allocated to Windows until I start it? Meaning. If Windows is shut down, I have the full power of the Mac for things like video editing and so?

I wanted parallels pro one time purchase but it’s subscription only. They lost a sale right there

Ok people, I need some help and it would be appreciated. I am due to start a course using the sage software. I have just bought the Mac Book Pro M3. I had no idea of the complications I would run into as the sage software uses Windows OS. What do I do? I’m not exactly a pro when it comes to computers so an explanation for dummies is definitely needed. I really hope I can get it sorted. Thanks in advance.

Do you happen to know if there's still a way to run Windows apps in the MacOS environment, I feel like it used to run like this 10-15 years ago, wondering if there's a setting in Parallels or something, that would let it FEEL like I'm using a Mac app, instead of running it inside the Windows window. Cheers!

The price is worth it. You get what you pay for and what they're charging is completely fine.

You can increase the amount of virtual cpus and ram in parallels to the amount your mac has and it'll run windows at its best performance
@katrinabryce Жыл бұрын
You do need to leave some RAM for MacOS, otherwise it will start using swap which will degrade performance.
@kerrydaniels8460 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend that at all nor do you need to folks. It is already fairly snappy out the box. You have to be trying to do too much or went cheap on the RAM if it isn't. For what 98%+ of users will do it works just about flawlessly and you should never allocate all your host's RAM and CPU to the VM as it does the opposite of helping.
@AndreaGiustino Жыл бұрын
Okay but the WOA version of Visual Studio 2022 still have limitations from what I know. For example, is QT fully supported? You can't compile a project from parallels as far as I know

I installed the virtual machine and it ran very well, however my space is very small on MacOS and I decided to clean the Windows installation files, but the disk utility still shows the 64GB allocated for this task. How can I solve this and get my original HD space back?

Good review. I have my doubts about battery life with Parallels installed. Years ago I used it on a 15" MacBook Pro with i9 and with the virtual machine the battery lasted no more than 3 hours while with macOS it was up to 9 hours! Now I have a MacBook Pro 14" M2 Max with 64Gb RAM and 2Tb SSD I would like to try it but I don't want to create problems with macOS. Can you give me an estimate of battery life with continuous use of Parallels compared to using MacOS alone? Thanks
@teh_hunterer Жыл бұрын
Parallels has a free trial and the installation is so easy that you really should just give it a go. Battery life is sadly about half, in my experience.

Thank you very much.

@@stefanotarlon5072 you're welcome. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It strikes me how cool it would be if you could connect to a server and use Parallels' coherence mode with it. That would be great for battery life. Ah well.
@stefanotarlon5072 Жыл бұрын
@@teh_hunterer I'm testing Windows365. I have a virtual machine full Windows 11 and I reach it using remote desktop. It works and battery is not drained. It costs a lot so I'm thinking to buy a cheap Windows pc to run two softwares.

Actually like Parallels.. just a bit pricey if not using Windows on a regular basis

A VM is not protected from its host. This couldn't be stressed enough. I was thinking about running a Windows VM for work on a Linux host but this came out as a bad choice from a security perspective. Basically the host needs access to the VM file to run it so it can manipulate whatever data there is on this file. This also means that any potential malware on the host, however unlikely with a Mac or Linux system, can get to the data on the VM drive.
@painfulwill Жыл бұрын
A lot of virtualization software (not sure about Parallels) allows the encryption of the VM file on the host.

Thanks for the video! I have a M3 Pro 36GB. Need Parallels and Windows to run CadLink for DTF printing on an Epson 8550. Do you think I'm safe buying the One Time Purchase version of Parallels, or do I need the annual plan? (Does the annual plan deny use after expiration, or can I continue to use the old version until I must upgrade for some other reason)?

Hey, nice Video! I have one Question. What du you use for Settings for CPU and RAM? And What is your Setting in the area calls „Hypervisor“ did you Set parallels or Windows? I have a Mac 2019 with 8cpu and 64 gb ram. I have the Problem that the windows work Slow. I dont know why….

16 inch Macbook Pro 2020, Core i9, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB SDD, top graphics, whatnot, Windows 10 under Parallels: unusable. Switched to Windows 11 on brand new oldschool tower PC, performance heaven. Never going back.

I just bought an older macbook pro with an i9 processor and was thinking of going back to windows pc I think you just saved the day. I can just put this parallels on my Mac as I like the mac for design work but I like windows for tabbing and having multiple browser windows running.

You could consider VMWare Fusion as an alternative to Parallels. The problems he refers to in the video relate to the Apple Silicon version of VMWare, the Intel version works great.

Mac have always been thx to bootcamp the best PC to run windows, I was already impressed by vm ware or parallels , but they continue to improve it , nowadays it's really not useful to have a separate bootcamp partition... even for games with Sonoma coming next month or so...
