Better to use PowerSettingsExplorer and just uncheck "processor idle disable". It will add another option under the processor power management under the advanced power options. then you can just toggle it on and off like you would min max processor state. it's the same thing and stay there permanently

Thanks, who would have thought Microsoft's advice would work better than any other advice on the Internet! Nb, for Ryzen Zen users...disabling processor idle states with this method seems to prevent AMD Precision Boost Overdrive from working, at least if the adjustment is made to AMD High Performance Plan. Might still be worth it for low latency audio. I'll need to test that.
@MichaelBruceTaosАй бұрын
Yeah this kind of thing is only for ultra low latency, not necessarly gaming. Think real-time processing.
@chrisborak220023 күн бұрын
@@MichaelBruceTaos I've done some testing and keeping all the processors awake at 100% makes no difference for low latency audio work in Reaper, at least how I use it. CPU usage on real time thread (the primary bottle neck for low latency audio) remains unchanged as does midi and audio latency. That's because all the processors that are going to get used are at max as soon as I hit play anyway. PB Overdrive (which is disabled by preventing processor states) is more useful as it allows higher single core performance and therefore more processing through the real time thread. The other mods are useful but disabling processor states only provides a few ms improvement on reaction to the play button as far as I can see.

@@chrisborak2200 The DAW needs to support multiprocessor for this to help much.
@chrisborak220021 күн бұрын
@MichaelBruceTaos All DAWs support multiple processors in 2024. However, general purpose CPUs and operating systems struggle to fill small buffers in real time even if they have the raw processor speed across multiple cores. E.g a 3 min project might render out in 2 mins but struggle to play at a reasonable buffer with a single track record armed. This is presumably due to some internal processor latency issue. Reducing DPC latency helps in general and you'd be forgiven for thinking turning off c-states would help, but it doesn’t unless you need to go from zero to max with minimal latency (can't see why you would for audio work).

My Personal experience with this I did the first two option. 1:Enable Ultimate Performance Power Plan 2:Disable IDLE power saving on CPU. The result on Latencymon is more than great in 1min test I was able to get 70µs Max is my Highest reported DPC and without these settings I am getting about 250µs Max, BUT when it comes to gaming like MW3 my AVG FPS is 537 and Low 5th is 397 and my Low 1st is 342 FPS. WITHOUT THESE SETTINGS MY AVG 566 and Low 5th 423 and Low 1st 366 FPS. I did also 3D Mark Benchmark and my CPU Score before the settings is 25K and after the settings is 23K. So, to make it clear these settings when it comes to reduce system latency is good, but it will decrease you CPU performance somehow, and I don't know why, but I have a high end gaming pc and I have no problem with that . parkcontrol to unpark cores and process lasso/bitsum highest performance plan does the same kind of thing, as would going into bios and establishing an overclock (even if said overclock is just the stock behaviour but at all times, ie. a 4790k runs at 4ghz but will boost across core loads to 4.4/4.3/4.2, etc) sync-all-cores in bios & disabling speedstep/C1E, and disabling C-States. all this is doing is restricting the idle states - you can see that core effective clock is still lower and bouncing around sometimes. doesn't do much other than get rid of all your power savings and make the chip run more than it ever needs to. sync-all-cores & something to prevent your cores from parking (parkcontrol) and preventing the windows multiplier from dropping to lower than max clock (ie. default is like 8% of 100% core speed) which is the same as high performance plan... achieves everything.. but keeps power saving and idle states. BUT having an in-windows flip power plan is the bigger benefit there. But even when under max graphics 1440p etc uncapped frames, fortnite, apex, etc. still don't pin the cores to max overclock speed in the core-effective clock section as it would in something like Cinebench, so it's possible that this means that while with these changes it might be running at "maximum" it's still not using maximum.

c1e is old archaic thing to keep cpu idle, today we not only speedstep but also disable cores, next thing were eco-cores that dont give performance but use low energy. c-states mostly are refered to freezing system that only works on laptops sometimes. cos you keep refresh of cpu, gpu, memory not to lose data. problem with desktop pc it doesnt have battery and power outgage and you lose everything. next c-states fail all the time, they even fail on working not hibernated pc, they dont bring mouse, keyboard and other usb devices back, even on working pc sometimes i had many out of blue usb drive goes missing. anyway what fuckin point is there to freeze device that max will eat 900mA where in pc there are plenty more that eat dozens more. thats why its better to disable power managment

The point made in the video is you can toggle the feature. So when you want to load the PC anyway it was going to use that power regardless. You just have more options after implementing this.

yee na, this is very situational for helping your computer in anyway. all this is doing is forcing your CPU to run at max clock speed at all times. yes this will help "latency" in some cases, because your CPU is always at full speed, and your voltage will also be locked. but I tried this with my 5600x which is on precision boost overdrive to get 4.85Ghz whilst gaming. having this power plan on, caused all my cores to get locked at 4.75. ye this will be stable and stop any random stutters but my overall frame rate dropped allot, which we all know, lower FPS = higher latency. So idk what real world situations this would help... like maybe on a CPU which you can't overclock, this could help boost consistent performance? and even then, most people who do overclocking then do a fixed clock rate and voltage, which gives the same results that this will. I would love to know what you would use this for and demonstrations of this benefiting someone. Like I find it hard to suggest anyone doing this unless you have no idea how to overclock or enable auto boosts for your CPU. And if you are going to use this, I recommend downloading software like Process Lasso Pro, so you can create a setting: when your game opens, it changes your power plan to the ultimate performance one. Then when the game closes, it goes back to a power saver one.
@berryvr7184 Жыл бұрын
also DO NOT have this on all the time, your just asking to lower the life expectancy of your CPU to go down very quickly. There is a reason why manufactures put settings, so your CPU clocks down when idling.
@НААТ Жыл бұрын
'' ye this will be stable and stop any random stutters but my overall frame rate dropped allot,'' this makes 0 sense. Also you shouldnt use some silly app to trust on ur overclock but do it via the bios.
@berryvr7184 Жыл бұрын
@@НААТ bruuu, I'm using AMDs BIOS overclocking system, to boost the clock speed of my CPU, not a random program. What I was saying is, my Clock speed was turned down (was only hitting 4.7 on all cores, instead of 4.85) because of this power plan, which made my gaming performance worst. the only benefit I could get from this power plan, is stopping my FPS from dropping hard, when my CPU randomly stops boosting to 4.85. I honestly can see how this can be useful for some people, but because I'm using programs/ etc to help stop random processes using my CPU. I can stop random low FPS from happening and keeping my higher clock speeds for better overall FPS in games.

@@berryvr7184 Something is deff going on on ur end for sure, That isnt supposed to happen. Are u overclocking using multipliers or FSB? Also have u checked all power saving features are off and the power plan didnt put ur max processor to 95% by any chance. Or perhaps ur termal throtteling? Im running a pretty oldschool rig (amd fx 6350) and it is stable at 4.7ghz now at 1.46v and i have noticed much better 1% and .1% with this.

@@НААТ bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. naa thats what I mean, you're using such an old CPU it benefits from manually overclocking it (This type of setting change). Manually overclocking a newer CPU, Like a 5600x or anything after, is a pain in the ass to do, I've tried doing this many times and very much struggle to get decent performance out of it, which compares to its own Auto Overclocking In the BIOS. I, Myself, always turn off any power saving plans in my power settings on windows and make sure the CPU is able to use 100% processing. Even when I had a ryzen 7 2700x I made sure it had these settings too. I would manually Overclock it at 1.45 volts Stable at 4.45GHz. Yes this made the responsiveness of the CPU great and gaming/ programs Benchmarks amazing. but it meant I was cooking/ killing the CPU over-time, very quickly, because it was constantly at a high voltage and clock speed, even though it wasn't doing anything. From this information, yes, Old school overclocking did help with speed and stability, but newer CPUs honestly benefit from using the programs made to help Boost its performance, rather than you manually trying to change things yourself. (yes you can manually tweak the auto boost stuff to get little bit more performance, but that not what I meant) THE ONLY time newer CPUs benefit from a full on manual overclock or controlling what its clock speed and voltage does, its when your a crazy crack head, who uses LN2 to try and get world record benchmarks, which makes the CPU perform for only a couple of minuets. (out of all this, what I am trying to say is, with newer CPU, from my experience "especially with AMD" anything after a 2000s ryzen CPU, don't manually overclock it, use procession boost overdrive. If u need to, tweak a few things after, keeping this setting on, to get a little bit more performance out of it.)
