I have tried calling more than a few window companies out here and they were all telling me that I was better off replacing my windows. After this video and a can of WD40, all of my windows are not only easier to open and close, but they stay open when I want them to. Thank you!

This video is like a God send! After thinking that I caused the problem by snugging up the center screws in the window or wasn't re-installing the trim correctly that hides the upper track, working on it for God knows how long, consulting the instructions that didn't cover any installation problems or adjustments, searching the manufacture's website that also didn't cover installation problems or adjustments, I end up resorting to good old KZbin that's saved my a** I don't know how many times! And using your key for a tool and throwing the sash on the floor gave me a good laugh in the process! This was exactly my problem. I can't believe it was staring me right in the face and I just didn't see it! Thank you for making this video from the bottom of my heart!

Awesome!!! I had a home inspection on a home I'm selling and inspector said :Repair damaged counter weight sash cord/spring" $200 each for 3 windows. Took me 5 min. to watch your video and less than 5 minutes to fix each window. Cost $0!!! Thank you!!!

I am woman! Hear me roar! I feel so powerful after doing what you taught in this video. After almost an hour of playing with the window while the hubby was installing a new kitchen faucet, I was hesitant to tell him I done did break the bathroom window. So I headed to KZbin and found this. Voila! I did exactly as you said even though our windows were a bit different in the foot dept. What a great feeling it was to fix the window myself. I've been strutting around for hours. LOL

Thank you, this has been bugging me for a year and was an easy fix after watching your video. One thing to mention - when I twisted the shoe it was under pressure so it loudly and unexpectedly snapped up to the top of the jamb, but was still easy enough to set in the correct place after that.

Omg! I have this exact window. I was cleaning all the windows in my house and after the window wouldn’t open. Ladies this video is for you. My boyfriend is pretty handy and he watched KZbin videos and still couldn’t fix it. That was months ago in December. It’s June 3rd and I just wanted the nice cool summer breeze, was determined to fix this window. One of my balance is broken, however, this trick worked!! I opted for a flathead screw driver because the key method was going to break my keys! It was really tough getting it to unlock and lock back, but use those muscles! Anyways thumbs up to this video! Thanks

Hey, Window Dog, thanks! I'm a 65 yo lady who knows squat about windows, and I did this myself. A suggestion: If there's a way to zoom in momentarily on small parts that you are referencing--in this case, the shoe, it'd be terrific. A question: What is the name of the upper part of the locking mechanism? It's the part on the jam that is covered by plastic and has a tightly coiled mechanism inside. I noticed on my window that the plastic is broken on that side of the jam where the shoe had fallen. I simply left the broken plastic piece in there and was able to successfully manipulate the shoe, and the window now stays up. However, does that plastic piece/coil need to be replaced? What is it called? I don't want to have someone tell me I need a new window, when I just need to replace that part. Thank you so much!
@jimandkarenallen68665 жыл бұрын
Take a picture of the piece with the coil. Take the picture to Lowe's or Home Depot - most of the folks who work there can help you. Whether or not you can get the part from them - don't know. But usually they can tell you how to get it. :)

Thanks for this! Just had to clean a tilt out window for the first time and got the sash disconnected from both shoes - once I found this video, I knew how to fix it. Did chuckle when you tossed the window onto the ground...knew better than to try that at home, lol. (Plus, the window was too heavy to toss!) But now I have a window that works and can lock shut again. I did use a flat head screwdriver to unlock the shoes rather than a car key - screwdrivers are easier to replace! Thanks!

Very informative. I've dabbled around with these parts but did not know the details. Well spent 5 minutes. I am turning over a rental with several window issues (may need to replace some window balances (they do tend to be available on the web ... but of course weight accuracy is key). I fear in my case that the pulley on which the spring connects may be cracked (ie: spring can't pull it anymore. May look at seeing if I can get pulleys .. and maybe shoes .. because the other parts seem OK ... although this is a no-name brand window (actually, no markings, so I'm not sure what the window is) ... and there is a relatively intricate stringing onto this pulley. Hoping at least some of the failing windows will just be the shoe at the bottom (have definitely seen this on at least 1). Thanks again ... great investment of 5 minutes on my part.
