A couple of extra points -- the Ethernet port is Gigabit -- worth mentioning. And you don't need an $40 HDMI adapter if you buy a monitor that has DisplayPort. A $15 cable is all you need. Mini display port to display port adapters are even cheaper if your monitor comes with a DP cable. You should also mention that the DP port on the Surface itself is also available, so you can run two additional monitors (along with the Surface screen). Finally, while the dock will reroute the audio as you stated, it's very easy to right-click the volume icon in the system tray, click playback devices, and reset the default audio devices to the internal speakers.

Hi! Ive seen a similar (or the same) design here in Germany but the box says its only for the surface 3 not the pro. The seller told me to buy the newest model which supports the pro, but I don't like. It looks like a brick! Any suggestions? Would it really work or you actually have one made for the pro that looks the same as the one ive found over here?

No, you cannot change the angle of the screen - unless you put something under the dock as a wedge.

I am wondering if I can use this docking station on my surface pro 1. I found nothing that says 'no'. That is dumb that the specifically for surface 1 has only one usb3 port on the docking station. Has anyone tried and had success on a surface pro 1?

Agreed the surface pro 3 speakers are hardly loud enough when docked on a desk far away from the user

a little disappointed about the charging port, yet annother proprietary block will be needed. So now I will have two charging blocks. Very inefficient Would probably be less costly if the charging port was the same as the one as on the surface pro three itslef. I understand the higher charging input, but it does not deserve practicality if one wants to take the port with you.

Most people who use a dock do not disconnect the power adapter and use their original one for travel. I agree the port could have been the same, but I'd prefer something a little more secure than the magnetic port on the SP3 for a dock. Opinions may vary of course, but I think this is really a non-issue.

Or better yet, they should have put the power brick inside the dock's base and have only detachable power cable plugin into the dock.

In professional environments you usally use DisplayPort as the main standard. HDMI belongs to the living room, not the office

Indeed. Mini DP to full DP cables are less than $15. And newer monitors come with DP as well as the older ports.

My desk where I usually keep my SP3 is right next to my TV and I like the idea of connecting them together when I play games, so HDMI is good for me.

It is a complete dud. The slide in plug does not connect well and will not charge properly. The slide does not hold the laptop properly either. If you try to squeeze the ends so it sits tighter the laptop pops out the non plug end because of the angled end holder. Really sad I wasted my money on this.
