Nice video, always nice to see those tryouts on "growing hacks" :). Just 2 small corrections,1st, the growing point is not the same as "node" the node would be the boundary between the older and newer growth, where the leaf meets the stem. And second, all nepenthes and almost all plants have nodes, and also growth buds/points/eyes, even if its covervete by the previous leaf, it is there hahaha. It may be difficult to acess and apply the paste there, but if someone wanna try blindly apply on truncata/veitchii and relatives using an cotton swab, there is an growth bud hidden down there. And also, it does actually makes sense that the cytokinin may affect buds that wasnt the applied ones, specially lower buds. Maybe those where simply more prom to pop at that given time. I never tried the paste myself, but tried cytokinins solutions on watering and misting a few times (but not with CPs) . with mediocre results(activate new growth points, but the main growth took a hit and slow down ) so i believe it makes sense that the hormones on the paste might interfere on the whole plant and not just at the point.

I would like to see an comparison on plants that got pruned, since the removal of the apical bud also gives that boost on the cytokinins levels. Would be interesting to see if in that scenario the keiki past would have any effect or if the pruned plants with no exogenous hormone boost would put out just as many new active growth points.

Hello remy, thank you so much for the content, you have helped me to the point where im confident i now have enough knowledge to grow nepenthes. I have been growing other carnivorous plants in my windowsill for 2 years now, and my first nepenthes arrived today 😁 It's a ventricosa x mapuluensis from wistuba, its not big yet but I'm in love 🥰 Thanks to your video's I'll be able to take good care of it so thank you again 😊 Once it has grown big and strong it will be interesting to try some paste, or even try to make my own Happy growing and greetings from the Netherlands 🌱

I was waiting for this video! Very nice. I tried keiki paste too on my N. xHookeriana because it was getting very big leaves (40cm diameter) and I was curious if more offshoots would make the leaves smaller. And it worked! Now there's two basals coming out of the stem in the middle of the plant and the new leaves are a bit smaller. I like bushy plants in general and maybe you could even make some kind of Nepenthes bonsai with this method? I also used keiki paste on half of my ventrata stem cuttings, but I saw no difference in node activation.

Love the videos Remy! GL with the experiments! A bit of relevant info from: CPUKForum (N. hamata with several growing points.) Borneo - "Many producers use a chemical known as BAP (benzyl amino purine) in the media which encourages shoot proliferation. (We don't use it here, we use something else entirely.) With some species when using BAP there is a memory effect and plants can sometimes continue to produce shoots in an un-natural manner for a long time afer being removed from the lab. A good example is N. rajah which has a loooooooong memory for this chemical." Borneo - "If a lot of BAP is used it can cause the plants to form a mass of undifferentiated cells - callus, so I think it has some pretty fundamental effects on the cells. However, even without BAP, on only a plain nutirient media, excessive basal growth can usually be achieved just by regulating the temperature on the high side." Borneo - "Personally, I don't like to use BAP unless it's on stubborn species that won't multiply easily but that usually translates to valuable species where the technique of in-vitro microcuttings is economically viable. I don't like BAP because of the after-effects that sometimes occur and occasional indesirable side-effects when in-vitro."

Instead of doing this can I cut off the main stem of my plant and root that so the left over bit of stem is forced to make a basal? Or will it not make a basal?
@WindowsillNepenthes Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can cut the main stem like in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4Cnl5yla8msorc but making cuttings from a full extra vine, can make you 5 to 8 new plants. ;) and then main stem won't be cut and continue to grow and flower.

I have access to rainwater to water my pitcher plants with, but it's a bit green, as it comes off my roof, so it definitely has algae in it, does it have too high nutrient content to get nepenthes to pitcher? My cape sundews do fine on the same water, and are producing dew and flowers galore.

3:45 I would not recommend using your finger. A small paint brush works very well. It allows you to get into small nooks and crannies for total coverage, as well as tons of control over how thick of an application you're putting down. But definitely don't get it on your skin. Big no-no.
