There is another way to do this journey. South Western Railway to Staines South Western Railway to Reading GWR to Slough GWR to Windsor & Eton Central Also going to Paddington with the Bakerloo Line is faster than the Northern Line and Elizabeth Line.

@@quintuscrinis Indeed. What happens, for those who don't know the area, is that, Sundays excepted, Colchester Town (St Botolph's to locals (it was called St Botolph's until 1991) has a single platform, but an hourly arrival and departure from London Liverpool Street, and an hourly (in each direction) call on the Colchester-Walton-on-the-Naze service. The station is situated at the bottom end of a triangular junction between Colchester and Hythe - i.e. it's a terminus station, and all trains must reverse. Coupled with it having only one platform, this creates a capacity problem. For the London service to fit in its path along the main line (it calls at every GA-served mainline station except Hatfield Peverel and Ingatestone), it needs to have a decent layover - but there also needs to be room for the Colchester-Walton service to reverse. Solution: to run the London unit to Colchester and back to free up the space. It's not entirely pointless though, as Colchester station (North station, to use its local name) is a long walk from the city centre, and uphill. The train is therefore more convenient. This, incidentally, is also why Sudbury services won't be extended until a new platform is built.

The 450s are fine for ‘suburban’ routes but SWR have been sadistic enough to use them on the route from Weymouth to Waterloo.

@anism5784
@anism5784 Жыл бұрын
I think there's been a misunderstanding here, because getting a 450 all the way to Weymouth from Waterloo is near impossible. The Weymouth service will always split at Bournemouth, with the rear unit either terminating or continuing on a slower pattern to Poole. If a 444/450 hybrid ends up doing this, the 450 is always the rear unit. In fact the only time I recall ever working and seeing a double 450 on that route is when the entire train terminated at Bournemouth due to engineering works between BMH and Wareham. Regardless, this isn't too much of an issue, considering they do the Winchester - Bournemouth route and do long distance services anyways. The pleasure of being short of rolling stock right....

Windsor and Eton Riverside and Windsor and Eton Central stations are quite near to each other and both serve the town of Windsor and village of Eton via crossing over the River Thames. And South Western Railway should introduce the Class 701 Arterios that are to be used on the suburban services in Southwest London and to operate on the Windsor & Eton Riverside line and Reading line.

I’ve walked the journey between the 2 farnborough stations and I’d much rather any ‘pointless journey’, though it would be fairly easy to go between the 2. One way could be Farnborough to Woking, then Woking to guildford and from there to Farnborough north - or the other way, Farnborough to Basingstoke, Basingstoke to reading and then down to Farnborough north, but I’m sure you could make a much more convoluted route!

I think the idea of going from Penzance to Thurso, most southern to northern stations in the UK. This would happen by leaving at a set time near the beginning of the day and travel up to Thurso but as soon as you get to a station you have to leave within 5 minutes, it may take multiple days but it would be interesting how many places the rail network could take you if you have such a tight time to depart from a station. I feel as if this would be a very good KZbin video and wouldn't be able to think about any other KZbinr who could create this video concept really well.

@quintuscrinis8032 I used to work for SWR as a Revenue Inspector and as I said personally I would go via Reading as I hated travelling across London. The Reading route is more scenic. Can't comment on the price as I used to get free rail travel ;). I will.add that we were always told that for journeys with multiple permitted routes the "not london" option was usually cheaper. However in the case of your XC route London would be the cheaper option as the direct route via Reading and Birmingham is far faster and more convenient as there are no changes.

Hi Nick, Please can you do Hammersmith (H&C Circle) To Hammersmith (Piccadilly and District). That would be a cool pointless journey!

Idk why but the music you used for the beginning/Southwestern part of the video was making me live! Sounds a lot like Catwalk by RuPaul. 😅🎉😂

I live and die for pointless journeys, in ur in London, you should do Marylebone to Baker Street and get the children from marlyebone to Amersham and then get the metropolitan line to Baker Street. Please I’ve never got picked for a pointless journey and I love it
