Especially if you included a not-via-London clause, that would be interesting.

The not-via London option is surely easier because you can just change at Bedford, take the other Midland shuttle across to Bletchely and change there for Watford? Via London you have to find a way of changing between St Pancras and Euston rather than just walking down the road: the Met service goes to Euston Road, not Euston, and the Northern technically comes out to Kings Cross.

I lived in Sheffield for 17 years. All you had to do was catch the train to Meadowhall and the tram back? Takes less than an hour!

If you think of another pointless journey later on, I'd definitely suggest doing one at Edinburgh for one of the following - Edinburgh Waverley (train) and St Andrew Square (tram), Haymarket (train) and Haymarket (tram), Edinburgh Park (train) and Edinburgh Park (tram), or Edinburgh Gateway (train) and Edinburgh Gateway (tram). Loved this video (since I'm from Sheffield originally) & the other pointless journeys you have done.

Nick, next time you come back down south, two pointless journeys you could consider: 1. Wimbledon National Rail - Wimbledon London Underground - Wimbledon Tram (in any order!) 2. Willesden Junction high level - Willesden Junction low level (or vice versa) (but since they are both, I believe, London Overground, perhaps not so interesting!)

Bill Bryson described Retford as " a delightful and charming place even under the sort of oppressive grey clouds that make far more celebrated towns seem dreary and tired." But N. Pevsner thought it to be unattractive and lacking any distinguishing buildings. Weird!

As somone from Retford, when I lived up in Liverpool for a year I had the same hour wait from EMR service to Lincoln service you did so I feel your pain. Also I'm not entirely sure where you went to buy water from as there is a giant Asda 10-15 mins from the station.

Yes, you're right. And what a lot of people do, to kill time while waiting for bad connection times, is spend as much money again on highly priced, poor value for money station snacks.!!! For those who are patient, a much better idea would be to wait, and have a wholesome dinner at some café or pub, later on. And they'll have to eat anyway, later on, regardless of whether they've been snacking or not.!!!!

Great Video!!! I guess that the regular commuter in me was going "Why is he going to Donny? (Doncaster) just go to Rotherham or Meadowhall?" But that wouldn't have made good content would it LOL. Another idea (since you done Sheffield) would be to do Manchester Victoria (National Rail) to Victoria (Metrolink), Manchester Piccadilly (Mainline) to Piccadilly (Metrolink) or an obscure (and entertaining one) would be Navigation Road (National Rail) to Navigation Road (Metrolink).
