The learning curve is excactly opposite to what is said here. Planing in windsurfing takes a lot of time. Planing in kitesurfing (the only way to ride) was achievable for me after only 3 hours on the water.

Yes its much easier to learn kite. It took me 20 years to learn a proper and correct jibe on WS. It is crazy difficult to do it 100% correctly. Its allso much more gear factors to adjust on WS. Positions, sizes, hauling etc. It takes years to learn all the details. For ex. the size, shape, flex and position of the fin(s). The rig outhaul, downhaul and the base position. Straps position. Its a lot of questionable statements in the video. What I find important is if your home spot has landing/launching space for kite. Or if your home spot has flat water or waves? Kitesurf need big beaches without electricity wires and such. Whats the wind force like? If you dont live in Maui, and have flat water conditions, kite might be more interesting. I allso find unstable wind better when kitesurfing,- if you are at a certain level. The kite has a bigger windrange compared to a windsurfing rig. You allso needs much more equipment for windsurfing, if you are dedicated; A van or trailer is a normal solution for the windsurfers. For kite you can limit the pile of gear. 2-4 kites and 2-3 boards.

Also, good luck mastering water starting and gybing in windsurfing. It might take several seasons and a very good fitness level to achieve it.

@@halvortorgersen8741 tbh gybing on a unidirectional kiteboard is harder than gybing on a windsurfboard. its just that with kitesurfing you can just use a twintip.

@@kingprone7846 A good gybe on windsurf is one of the hardest thing to learn. Even some very experienced windsurfers dont have the best techniqe in gybing. Its so many elements. Where to place the foot. When to apply preassure on the toe. Show the sail (laydown for edge pressure). rig movements, stepping, weight distribution, position of the hands of the boom, swinging the rig behind body, clew first sailing phase, etc etc. Evrything must be timed. It took me many years and clinics, to learn a stable gybe in windsurfing. In kitesurf it just to gybe and choose if you want to end up toe-side or heelside. 100 times easier.

This is exactly what i was about to write.

Agree 100% kitesurfing is a lot easier to learn overall

Yeah, this video is confusing as to which is easier to learn. It contradicts itself twice. TO BE CLEAR Kitesurfing is much easier to learn then windsurfing.

such a weird voiceover. Hope youtube bans these AI KZbin channels - this video is terrible

When robots can do either of these sports you can trust the voiceover. Windsurfing is much more strenuous and wave sailing is much more challenging than wave kiting. I think windsurfing will die, for these reasons. If you think you're going to sail at Hookipa like the guys in this video, you need to put in a lot of prep and practice.
