May I suggest to add a hand crank option in a case that there is no wind or solar and you have an emergency to call for help? I am printing this project as it looks very functional. Thanks

Nice job but you really shouldn't print over 230°C on an ender style printer because of the ptfe tube creating cancerous fumes above that point. You need an all metal hotend for that

Hi! I was very interrested in what BLDC motor you use, since I am currently experimenting with small VAWT style turbines in my garden. But your BOM does not link to the part anymore... I am currently just using cheap 30ohm NEMA17 steppers, but it is not so efficient due to the need for a double diode bridge and other properties of the motor.

The most viable BLDC motor option I have found to use as a generator without mods are motors for Gimbals (camera stabilizers). They deliver relatively high voltage at very low RPM and do not have as high an ohmic resistance between phases as in stepper motors. Unfortunately, these types of motors are increasingly scarce on the market because there are comprehensive solutions for Gimbals and manufacturers are less and less committed to selling motors for DIY solutions. Any 20-45 KV (RPM/V) Gimbal motor with an ohmic resistance between phases of approximately 15 ohms or less will work. The lower the resistance, the better! Look on Ebay or the RCTimer online store that they still sell it. I'm still not satisfied and am designing my own generator to submit to Chinese manufacturers to see if they can build it. I plan to release new videos on this topic and feature the mods I made to use one of these gimbal motors. Good luck!

@@AdrianCubas1980 Thanks for the reply. I have looked at motors for gimbals as well, but all I could find seemed very small and the KV was more like 120-200, also the price was kind of steep.

@@AdrianCubas1980 For the steppers I found that higher resistance = higher voltage at lower RPM, but lower efficiency.

@@ET_AYY_LMAO aerialpixels.com/shop/motors/brushless-gimbal-motors/iflight-rc-ipower-brushless-gimbal-motors/ipower-gbm5208-150t-brushless-gimbal-motor-dslr/ I have modified my windturbine to use this specific motor and the results are acceptable. I got it on Ebay for 25 usd second hand. The pieces to adapt it I will publish in a new Log on my hackaday project page. In the case that you tell me about stepper motors, it is because they use windings with a much higher number of turns, but they keep the caliber very thin, this greatly limits the current delivery capacity. Much of the available wind energy is used to basically heat the internal windings of the motor and therefore the efficiency decreases. Having low resistance windings is vital, but remember that there are size and mass limitations that must be taken into account with this device. Ideally, a generator with many turns of wire would be required, with very low ohmic resistance, with powerful magnets very close to these windings, with a laminated core with very low losses and all this with low mass and little volume, not a bit contradictory. ???? hahahahaha

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity. And only at costs very significantly above 1$/kWh!* There is hardly any wind near the ground, and it is also very gusty, which extremely reduces the service life of the systems. With solar systems, you can reliably generate electricity for about 8-12 cents/kWh over a period of 25 years!
